Mrs. Laker stood there frozen in fear, not daring to move a single inch, watching as Jackson and his family took out their few key essential items.
She didn’t dare to look Jackson in the eyes.
Again, before an awakener with such strong spiritual force, she could do nothing.
Jackson also didn’t bother paying any attention to her. He was sure the bit of pressure that he had released just now should be enough to deal with them, but if they had continued to persist, he didn’t mind using slightly more force.
The surrounding neighbors who had been watching with gusto didn’t dare to continue watching any longer. No one in their right mind wanted to offend such an awakener just because they couldn’t mind their own business.
...
Mrs. Rose looked at the apartment front door, a mix of emotions flashing on her face. This place had been their home for years. Never would she have thought one day they would just walk away like this.
Then her attention shifted to her elder son standing some way from her, a resolute look on his face as he dragged the large bag out from inside.
Looking at his face, all the doubts that she had vanished into a cloud of smoke.
At first she was worried where they would stay after leaving the apartment in such a hurry, but now looking at her son’s confident face, Mother Rose instantly knew everything would be okay.
It wasn’t until the Jackson family left with their belongings that finally Mrs. Laker moved, her face contorting in anger, furious rage bubbling in her chest.
Since when had she been treated like this, much less by a youngling like Jackson? So what if he was an awakener?
It wasn’t like he was the only awakener in existence.
The next moment she turned to the frozen men and shouted in a loud tone,
"Where is Alex? Somebody call him here!"
Hearing her shout, the four thugs were hurriedly jolted awake and rushed out to find Alex.
Alex was Mrs. Laker’s son, also an awakener very close to the peak of the First Sequence.
She didn’t believe her son would be unable to deal with an awakener who had awakened just yesterday.
With no one to vent on, her anger felt like a volcano on the verge of eruption.
The watching neighbors had already dispersed, not wanting to suffer collateral damage.
...
A few hours later, Jackson managed to find a room at the center of Sector Sixty-Seven. Of course, this was only temporary lodging, enough to provide a roof above his family’s head till he found a nice and safe house.
Jackson led both Rose and Aella to the room that had been assigned to them on the fiftieth floor.
"Both of you relax, while I go out and deal with the paperwork."
Mother Rose looked at Jackson with a look of hesitation, as if she wanted to say something, but in the end she could not bring herself to say anything.
Mother Rose looked at the spacious room, fully furnished and packed with all the necessary essentials, their quality top-notch. She could tell it was an expensive place.
She wanted to ask whether they could really afford to live in such a place even on a temporary basis.
But when she saw the look in Jackson’s eyes, she could not bring herself to voice all these doubts. She didn’t want to shatter his confidence.
Jackson could tell what Mother Rose was thinking. He could only shrug his shoulders. It didn’t matter what he said at this point. Simple words would not be enough, so there was no point in wasting any time.
Just as he was about to move, his younger sister uncertainly grabbed his legs, unwilling to let go.
"Brother, don’t go..." little Aella said in a low voice, trying to hide her anxiety.
She believed that once Jackson went out, those evil people would once again attack him.
Jackson patted her little head warmly and spoke in a soothing voice,
"Don’t worry, Aella. I am just heading down to do some paperwork. Don’t worry about me. You might not know, but the place we are in is Green Soul Inn. This place is protected by a bunch of Hunter Tier Four-Seven. No one would dare hurt your brother here."
"Really...?" Aella’s eyes instantly lit up.
She didn’t know how big Green Soul Inn was or how safe it was, but once she heard the mention of hunters, the worry from her face completely disappeared. Any place protected by hunters was bound to be safe.
In this changed world, hunters were the same as celebrities from modern Earth. These existences commanded almost blind belief. After all, they were the bunch of people who stood at the front lines protecting humanity from danger time and time again.
Aella herself wanted to join the hunter organization and become a proud hunter, protecting her family from all threats.
Green Soul Inn...
Mother Rose’s expression, however, turned slightly strange. She wasn’t ignorant like Aella, but knew a massive deal about the world.
She knew this was one of the most expensive inns in the entire Sector Sixty-Seven, run by one of the four strong corporations in the entire sector.
Thinking of all these things, she finally could not stop herself from speaking in a hushed tone, dragging Jackson slightly to the side.
"Isn’t this place too expensive? We could move somewhere cheaper..."
However, before she could continue, Jackson shook his head, stopping her from speaking further. He looked right in the eyes of Mother Rose and said in a firm tone:
"Mother, now that I am capable, we don’t need to make compromises. My family deserves the best of the best... just wait for some days and we will move to an even better place. I promise you."
Hearing those confident words, Mother Rose had the urge to question him, reminding him of the world’s reality. Just a single day in this inn would likely cost them fifty mana stones.
Countless thoughts whirled in her head, but in the end she didn’t say anything. She could not understand where his confidence came from.
Thinking he would understand after he suffered a slight setback, she held herself back. Sometimes words did little; one’s own experience was the best teacher.
Once Jackson suffered a little setback, he would understand it was not easy.
Jackson could tell that Mother Rose was doubting him, but who wouldn’t?
He didn’t say anything, but patted Aella’s head and left while assuring her,
"Don’t worry, I will be back."
Mother Rose watched Jackson’s figure vanish into the bright light of the hallway. Shaking her head, she finally turned to Aella and said,
"Little Aella, quickly get ready. It’s already twenty past. Or you don’t want to be late on the first day of your dojo training?"
...
"Here is the advance payment of fifty stones for one day."
Jackson handed over the last remains of his savings with an indifferent expression. The receptionist, a young woman with a graceful appearance, accepted the payment without a blink.
After finishing some other formalities, Jackson didn’t return back to join his family, but instead headed out.
It was time to become an official hunter.
