SSS Talent: My Undead Evolve Without Limits
Chapter 112: Beyond ExpectationsOn the massive magical screen, tongues of flame cleaved the darkness of the night, turning vast expanses of the forest into a raging inferno.
And from amidst the fire and ash, a figure emerged, dragging his feet with heavy difficulty.
He wore a silver mask with dark blood seeping from beneath it, while his black armor appeared torn and scorched in dozens of places. He staggered with every step, his body on the verge of collapsing from sheer exhaustion.
He took a few more steps before his legs finally betrayed him. He fell unconscious at the edge of the burning forest, amidst the scattered ash and blackened soil.
Inside the sealed observation hall in the Vesperion family manor, the silence was suffocating.
The hall, which had been bustling with the family’s noise two days ago, was now nearly empty, its silence broken only by the screen’s glow... and occupied by only four people.
Grand Elder Rhazakar let out an audible sigh, his eyes still glued to the screen, looking at the unconscious figure. Then, he turned toward Elder Helena. "It is a very good thing that we listened to your advice, Helena."
Duke Valzareth nodded, resting his chin on his fist.
"You’re right. This trial is no longer something anyone can watch lightly. The youngest has far exceeded all our expectations. Even his siblings and the rest of the elders are not ready to comprehend this...and no one outside this room must know what happened here."
At that moment, a fourth voice broke the silence.
It was a young man sitting beside them, someone who had not been present during Malric’s previous public broadcast.
He appeared to be in his mid-twenties, with short black hair and clear blue eyes—a stark contrast to the family’s signature emerald eyes.
He possessed a well-proportioned, athletic physique, his shirt unbuttoned halfway down to reveal his taut chest muscles. He stared at the screen in utter disbelief, as if he couldn’t process what he had just witnessed.
The blue-eyed young man leaned forward, his relaxed posture gone, and pointed at the magical screen, his tone brimming with bewilderment:
"Elder brother, what in the seven hells is going on here? What exactly did you mean by sending your youngest son to fight against four of the Fallen rank? One of them was only a few steps away from reaching the Corrupted rank! And he is still just a newly Awakened?"
The Duke met his brother’s frantic gaze with absolute calm. "You were busy with your recent breakthrough to the Supreme rank, brother Dylan. You were occupied with stabilizing your new domain, so you were not privy to the details."
He adjusted his seating slightly. "The primary purpose of the trial was to test the seventh’s competence in battlefield management. We needed to evaluate his leadership and endurance, especially as a necromancer. But..."
The Duke paused, a flicker of something unreadable crossing his eyes. "The trial took a completely unexpected turn. The youngest just kept surprising us."
Elder Helena added, her eyes still fixed on Malric’s body on the screen "We didn’t know he was capable of controlling this many undead that outrank him, let alone making them stronger."
" We had already taken into account that the Demoness by his side would intervene to help him. Furthermore, the First Division of the Dark Wing, under Saint Elder Raviel, was stationed there in case things went wrong."
Grand Elder Rhazakar continued the explanation "In fact, we were prepared to pull him out and end the trial the moment he killed the Bull. He was already injured and had proven his worth as a standard-bearer after defeating a beast a whole rank above him, so we all agreed that it was enough."
"We announced his success to the family and decided it would be best for him to receive his treatment here in the manor."
"But Helena... told us that the seventh was not done yet, and that what was to come might be far more dangerous than what had transpired so far. That is why she asked us to keep the trial running, but in absolute secrecy, allowing no one else in the family to know what was happening."
Helena interjected, her emerald eyes still locked onto the screen "I saw glimpses of the seventh’s fate... That is what made me tell you to keep the matter a secret. Because what he intended to do would overturn the very concept of power in the Empire and make him a target for everyone."
"Did you know he would take the initiative to attack the commanders himself?" Dylan asked with curiosity.
"No. I did not," Helena shook her head slowly.
"I could not see the act itself. But I saw the threads of three of the Fallen commanders suddenly begin to wither, drawn into a deep, impenetrable void that had just formed around the youngest... while the thread of the fourth was completely erased."
"Truthfully, the youngest is surrounded by something mysterious and constantly shifting. This is something found only in high-ranking entities like us, which is incredibly bizarre considering he is still just an Awakened. Because of this, I cannot interfere or read his fate freely... I only see fragmented parts."
Helena smiled faintly and added "But this is also good news. If I am unable to do so, then those connected to divination in the Empire won’t be able to either."
"Yes, that is good news. It will grant him some time to continue his growth out of sight until he is capable of defending himself." Duke Valzareth nodded seriously
The Duke fell silent for a moment, as if a sudden thought had just struck him. He narrowed his eyes slightly, his voice slowing as he looked at them.
"However, considering everything we witnessed tonight... his abilities far beyond what his rank should allow, the strange changes in his undead, and the fact that they continue to grow stronger alongside him..."
"What if the youngest didn’t just awaken a class that day?"
"What if he awakened a ’Talent’ as well?"
