But before he began the evolution process, he remembered something he wanted to confirm. His eyes turned toward the remaining corpses.

Malrik wanted to test what had stopped Gravios from coming back to life, and as it happened, he had seven more corpses in front of him to confirm his theory.

Malrik walked toward one of them. It looked like a massive eagle, its body badly disfigured. Deep, irregular marks covered its body, with areas crushed inward as if it had been struck repeatedly with something heavy. From the pattern of the injuries, it looked like whoever killed it had beaten it to death with a hammer.

Malrik pulled a dagger from his storage ring. He crouched down and opened the area near the heart. After clearing away the surrounding flesh, a small white gem appeared in front of him.

His eyes fixed on it. This wasn’t the first time he’d seen one of these.

A Law Seed.

Its shape matched exactly what he’d found inside Gravios, though its aura was noticeably weaker than what Gravios had carried.

He reached out and pulled it free gently. The moment it settled between his fingers, he felt a faint aura surrounding it, a cold breeze brushing against his hand.

A Low-rank Wind Law Seed.

Malrik pocketed the seed and looked at the corpse.

"Let’s see if this works."

He raised his hand, and green and black mana began gathering around the body. The mana spread across the eagle’s remains, and the resurrection process began. A few moments later, the energy scattered suddenly.

[ Cannot Resurrect Soul. ]

"Hmm... alright, that confirms my theory."

The Law Seed was tightly bound to the soul. The moment it was removed from the body, the soul suffered damage severe enough to make resurrection impossible.

That explained what had happened with Gravios. The problem was never the resurrection skill itself. Removing the Law Seed from his body had damaged his soul to the point where reviving him became impossible.

Malrik looked at the white gem again. "At least I got a Law Seed out of it."

There was another idea he wanted to test.

After remembering what had happened with Biggie, he realized the soul didn’t need to physically consume an evolution material for the system to count it among the required materials.

Gravios’s corpse was proof of that. The soul had never eaten or absorbed it at all. It had simply been near Biggie during the evolution, and yet the system had still counted it as an evolution material.

If I’m right about this... this is a dangerous loophole.

Malrik walked over to Lady Mushroom and took out the Wind Law Seed, holding it out to her.

"Hold this."

She took it without hesitation, her expression unchanged. Malrik opened her status panel and pressed [ Evolve ].

As expected, the system responded almost immediately, and several notifications appeared before him.

[ Law Fusion is possible. ]

Fusing Laws...? Ha... I knew it. Evolution really can fuse Laws together.

If anyone found out about this, they’d lose their minds.

He’d expected multiple paths to appear, the same way they had during Biggie’s evolution.

He started thinking through what he’d used during Biggie’s evolution. There had been two main materials. Gravios’s corpse, which carried Epic ★ potential, and a Medium-rank Law Seed.

Before he could finish the thought, something new caught his attention.

Stars?

Small stars had appeared next to the Law’s rank inside the evolution window.

He’d never heard of anything like these stars before. They only appeared for him because of his evolution Talent.

From what he could tell, one star marked the lowest level within a rank, three stars marked the middle level, and five stars marked the peak. Anything reaching five stars sat at the very edge of its current rank, ready to cross into the next one, a leap that carried potential far beyond anything the previous rank could offer.

He’d assumed until now that Laws within the same rank carried roughly equal potential, and that the real difference came down to the type of Law and how well its user could exploit it. But the appearance of these stars shattered that assumption completely.

So even Laws of the same rank aren’t really equal.

Malrik sank into thought for a moment before his eyes landed on another corpse.

Let’s try something else and see what happens.

He walked toward it and pulled out his dagger again, opening the area near the heart the same way he had with the eagle. A small crystal appeared moments later.

It radiated clear heat, and its aura matched the one from the Wind Law Seed. It didn’t take Malrik long to realize it was a Low-rank Fire Law Seed.

He took it and walked back toward Lady Mushroom. "Hold this one too."

He pulled up her status panel and pressed [ Evolve ].

Malrik stared at the window for a moment, since he’d expected a different result.

Only one path again?

This time he’d added both a Fire Law Seed and a Wind Law Seed to the process, and yet no new paths had appeared. The fusion still produced only one.

Damn it. What’s the problem here?

Malrik started thinking through the resulting Laws. Both had different names, but they clearly shared one fixed element in common: poison.

Both paths had kept poison as their foundation, while the added trait changed depending on the second seed.

Is the Law’s rank what determines the path?

He started thinking about it more seriously. If one Law was stronger than the other, maybe the stronger Law was what dictated the direction of the fusion, while the weaker one only contributed its own traits on top.

The higher a Law’s rank, the more the fusion leans toward it?

That felt logical. Then he remembered what had happened during Biggie’s evolution. Both Law Seeds used in Biggie’s materials had carried the exact same rank.

So... was that the reason multiple paths appeared back then?

Maybe neither Law had been strong enough to dominate the other. And when there was no single Law leading the fusion, several possibilities had opened up in front of him, each one representing a different direction the evolution could take.

If that’s true, then the number of paths doesn’t just depend on how many materials I use. It also depends on their rank.

His eyes returned to the evolution window, settling on the new Law’s rank.

Law Rank: Medium ★★★★★

Five stars this time. This wasn’t just an ordinary Medium-rank Law. It had reached the peak of its rank, one step away from crossing entirely into High-rank Laws.

Hmm... I could still push this further and reach High-rank.

The idea was tempting. But Malrik quickly remembered the cost. If he used the Law Seed sitting inside one of these corpses, using up every remaining Law Seed in this evolution would cost him the chance to revive the rest of the Morveth.

He took a moment to think it over carefully, weighing everything out, and a faint smile crossed his face.

It doesn’t matter. Two followers carrying High-rank Laws are worth far more than ten followers carrying Low-rank Laws.

He still had six more corpses carrying Law Seeds, and he could use those seeds to push both Lady Mushroom’s and Winter’s Laws into higher ranks.

Malrik could barely hide his excitement. If his calculations were correct, he was about to gain three Fallen-rank souls carrying High-rank Laws all at once.

Now... let’s see which of these Law Seeds is the best fit for Lady Mushroom.
