SSS Talent: My Undead Evolve Without Limits
Chapter 96: The Foundation Dictates the CeilingMalrik stood completely frozen in the center of the room. The wide, greedy grin that had been on his face just a moment ago evaporated instantly.
"What exactly do you mean by that?"
Lilith casually leaned back into her chair. She crossed her legs, looking entirely too amused by the sudden drop in his mood.
"Exactly what it sounds like. But honestly, it is a bit premature to discuss this. You are still miles away from comprehending the actual mechanics of it."
Malrik let out a slow, heavy breath.
Damn it.
Do you actually enjoy baiting my curiosity just to feed me this cryptic nonsense right after?
"Are you serious right now?" Malrik asked, his voice flat. "You drop a massive warning like that and then tell me I am too young to understand"
" Explain it. Now."
Lilith let out a soft laugh. The purple threads of mana weaving her sound barrier pulsed faintly in response to her amusement.
"Fine. I’ll tell you one thing. The moment you begin to grasp what true power actually is, you’ll realize that your current Skills were never built to reach that level."
He paused, letting the words settle before continuing.
"Your Skills are shaped by the limits of your current vessel. They can grow stronger, become more refined, and even change as you improve. But there is a point where that stops being enough. When your body, soul, and understanding begin to reach a higher level of power, the Skills you rely on now will no longer be able to keep up."
"The vessel changes, and the old tools become restraints. What once helped you grow will eventually become too crude to contain the power you’re trying to wield."
" At that point, you won’t simply need stronger Skills. You’ll need to transform the ones you already possess." "That is where Stellar Skills come in."
Malrik narrowed his eyes.
Stellar Skills? I have never heard that term before.
"What is a Stellar Skill?"
"They are the Original Skills," Lilith explained, her playful tone shifting into something far more serious.
"The absolute source code of magic and authority. Everything you use right now through your Necromancer Class is merely a derived skill. It is a watered-down, fragmented copy of the real thing. There is absolutely no comparison in power between a derived skill and an Original."
Malrik processed the information rapidly.
So basically, every Awakened in this world is walking around playing with the free trial version of their own abilities.
"And to convert a derived skill into a Stellar Skill, what do I need?" Malrik asked.
"You need a monstrous amount of Soul Power," Lilith answered bluntly. "The capacity of your soul dictates everything. When you reach a specific rank, the conversion process will finally unlock."
"You will only be able to convert a set number of your class skills, limited entirely by the strength of your soul at that exact stage."
She paused, letting the weight of her next words sink in.
"But that phase is just a temporary threshold. If you push forward and advance past that stage without having the Soul Power to convert them, the window shatters."
She leaned forward slightly, her glowing eyes locking onto his.
"The only way to keep every single skill in your arsenal is to possess an absolutely colossal amount of Soul Power before you cross that line. And realistically speaking? That is practically impossible."
" That is why I said you might end up losing everything you are copying right now."
Malrik digested the ruthless logic of the system. It was a brutal bottleneck designed to weed out the weak.
"Do you have any of these Original Skills?"
Lilith shook her head. There was a brief flash of genuine regret in her eyes.
"Not yet. Even at the absolute peak of my life, my Soul Power had not reached the required threshold to trigger the conversion process."
Malrik stared at her in sheer disbelief.
Even a Saint-rank soul was not enough.
Just how ridiculously high is the ceiling in this world?
"Then how am I supposed to increase my Soul Power to make sure I do not lose my arsenal?"
"Right now? You cannot." Lilith waved her hand dismissively. "You are far too weak. Traditional methods simply will not work on someone at your pathetic level."
Malrik frowned, his annoyance visibly spiking.
Before he could complain, Lilith offered a faint, teasing smile. "But... there might be one specific method that could actually help someone at your current stage."
"And what is that?"
Lilith leaned back into the couch and looked up at the ceiling. She began tapping her finger against her chin, pretending to think deeply. She stayed completely silent, clearly enjoying his growing impatience.
Malrik narrowed his eyes.
"You have been getting extremely mischievous lately. Do you know what? When the time finally comes to convert my abilities into Stellar Skills, I will just discard the Soul calling skill entirely. You will disappear forever, and I will finally get some peace and quiet."
Lilith was not intimidated in the slightest. Her smile only widened.
"Without me, you would have been dead a long time ago."
Malrik opened his mouth to argue, then slowly closed it. He did not say a single word.
She is unfortunately right.
If she had not stepped in during half of those fights, I would be rotting in a ditch somewhere right now.
He let out a heavy sigh, completely dropping the attitude.
"Please. Just tell me."
Lilith’s eyes gleamed with pure satisfaction. "That is much better."
She shifted her posture, dropping the playful act entirely. "The answer is the Rank Advancement Trial. You have already experienced one."
Malrik frowned, genuinely confused. "The trial? How does that help with my soul?"
"Every time you cross a major rank, the system offers you a choice of difficulty," she explained calmly.
"Most people pick the safe route to guarantee their advancement. But if you choose the highest difficulty, the system rewards you."
She pointed a finger directly at him. "It permanently increases your core Soul Power."
The moment the words left her mouth, a vivid memory flashed through Malrik’s mind.
He remembered standing inside the Lumel Temple. He remembered the exact second he had officially stepped into the Awakened Rank.
The system had offered him a trial. The moment he cleared it, an overwhelming surge of energy had flooded his veins.
But it had not just been physical strength or mana.
He remembered the sensation perfectly. Something deep inside his chest had expanded. It felt denser. Heavier.
He had literally felt his soul becoming stronger.
So it is all connected.
If a person takes the easy way out during their advancement, they are essentially crippling their future self.
The foundation dictates the ceiling.
At least this system is fair.
Malrik let out a quiet sigh and ran a hand through his hair.
"Fine." Malrik let out a slow breath. "I will exploit every opportunity in front of me to increase my power, even if I end up losing it later."
He looked toward the invisible barrier sealing the room. "It is not like I have a lot of options right now anyway."
He turned back to her, his voice hardening. "The most important thing right now is finishing this trial."
"I will not give the Lumel Temple a single chance to execute their plans, whatever they might be. We will deal with the Stellar Skills when we actually get there."
Lilith smiled approvingly. She leaned her head against the couch and closed her eyes. She instantly returned to her favorite state of absolute laziness.
"Do whatever you want," she murmured. "Just do not blow up the room."
Malrik rolled his shoulders. "Let us get to work."
He raised his right hand. A glowing emerald summoning circle instantly materialized, bathing the stone floor in a cold green light.
The air grew heavy. A sleek, pitch-black wolf stepped out of the circle.
He was large, but not monstrously oversized. His dark body was tightly wrapped in shifting shadows, radiating the undeniable, sharp aura of an Epic-rank predator.
"Master."
Fenrir’s voice was a deep, gravelly rumble that vibrated through the floorboards.
The terrifying wolf immediately closed the distance. He dropped his head and began frantically nuzzling Malrik’s chest.
He let out a happy whine. His tail wagged so hard it created a visible breeze in the room. A rough tongue lashed out, happily licking Malrik’s arm.
An Epic-rank killing machine, and it acts exactly like a golden retriever.
My image as a terrifying, cold-blooded Necromancer is taking a very serious hit.
Malrik could not help but laugh. He reached out and rubbed the massive wolf’s head, scratching behind its ears. Fenrir leaned into the touch, letting out a satisfied rumble.
"Alright, back up a little," Malrik instructed gently. "I need you to do something for me."
"I want you to start using your skills. Cycle through them one by one, right here in the room."
Fenrir immediately perked up. The wolf hopped backward, looking entirely too excited to follow an order.
"Yes, Master."
Malrik glanced at the sleek black bracelet wrapped around his left wrist.
Let us start copying some skills.
