Chapter 2001: Clash with the Ancients (II)

Chaos Sky wanted to conquer the chaos so he could organize all living beings and complete the formation of an ordered chaos. That was a direct way of ensuring that the great dao developed spirit.

Spring Autumn’s pursuit of immortality and having the passage of the seasons not harm her body was also a kind of seizing spirit.

The differences between the two were thus apparent.

Spring Autumn was weaker than Chaos Sky because the human was already focused on constructing spirit. Spring Autumn was still on the path of seeking it.

The Human King shook his head—not because he didn’t agree with what was being said, but that he couldn’t be bothered to listen to it.

“If I train my body, then I naturally have spirit,” he said. “My body contains dao, which will create my dao spirit. I am dao and the dao is me, the spirit is also me! Li Hao, do you think I can make it to ninth rank this way?”

“I’m not sure.” Li Hao scratched his head. “There doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with what you’re saying, just that...”

“That’s good then!” laughed the Human King. “If you say there’s no problem, then there shouldn’t be a problem!”

“......” Li Hao was speechless. Was that what I said?

He only had a simple overview of everyone else’s dao. He wasn’t certain of the specifics.

The Human King was fine enough, he wasn’t actually asking or consulting Li Hao. He just wanted to say that my dao is pretty damn good. That’s all!

In that case, why bother asking me anything?

It was Chaos Sky who rather...

Li Hao furrowed his brows and looked at the man, at the daoist who seemed rather benign.

“Fellow Daoist Chaos Sky... has already set foot on the path of seeking the spirit,” the young man sighed. “Which means to say that he doesn’t actually need to chat with us. Conquering the chaos is what the fellow daoist seeks.

“Once the chaos is one and the wills are one, the fellow daoist will be able to change heaven and earth to produce spirit in the great dao. You will verify your dao as a ninth rank!”

Chaos Sky’s dao had already been solidified. Or rather, he’d pursued it for so many years that he wouldn’t change it for someone else. They were all on the path of pursuing dao and had concrete goals!

The chaos must be unified!

And when it came to Long Zhan... the conflict between Chaos Sky and Long Zhan might be the worst. Indeed, it was the most pronounced. The Human King cultivated the self, whereas Long Zhan wanted to reverse his race’s fate, and Chaos Sky wanted to build a dynasty...

As for Spring Autumn, one could tell that dominion was not her goal. She wished to break the constraints of time and destiny. She wanted to snap the fetters placed on her kind’s lifespan. Hence, she might be the most interested in the dao of time!

But when one was caught between two overlords who wished to conquer the chaos, people tended to be dragged in even if they didn’t wish to participate.

A unification of wills!

How would that not happen when faced with the wills of such premier existences?

It’d taken only a few words for everyone to see what each other’s goals were. Long Zhan didn’t say a word as he was destined to have a fight with Chaos Sky. It would be a duel to the death, unless one of them died beforehand.

The two of them were also fated to clash with the others, or to bring the others to heel.

The Human King fully understood everything by this point. He smiled and didn’t say anything else, just quickly changed the topic.

“We’re pursuing different kinds of spirit to facilitate our entry to ninth rank. How did those guys enter ninth rank so easily one million years ago?”

The spirit was too hard! He didn’t believe that all descendants since a million years ago were less than their predecessors. And yet, no one had set foot into ninth rank side then, including Chaos Sky!

Chaos Sky wasn’t a real ninth rank. If he was, he wouldn’t be here to discuss dao with them. There would be no need for that.

“Because there is... limited spirit born in the chaos!” Chaos Sky answered gravely. “The chaos as a whole is still disorderly. Those people from a million years ago took most of the spirit. They attained their dao, but severed the paths for those to come!

“In other words, the chaos was ordered a million years ago!” The look in the man’s eyes turned hard. “Pulling up the ladder after them is something that many worlds do when they have no other options left to them.

“I don’t blame our predecessors and have no right to point fingers. But these guys didn’t leave a single ray of hope for those to come, so I don’t like them!”

The group started. Or rather, only Li Hao and the Human King blinked. The other veterans seemed to understand what Chaos Sky spoke of.

Li Hao looked around in a daze. No wonder!

There might have been an innate spirit with the great dao a million years ago, and perhaps one did not specifically need to seek it out then. That was because the chaos was ordered back then.

But a group of ninth ranks had fully absorbed all of that spirit, producing exalted emperors of life and death, calamity, and the Skyward master...

Those dao masters had exhausted the spirit of similarly attributed dao!

“So this means that there was order in the chaos in the beginning, but these ninth ranks dismantled the order,” Li Hao murmured after a moment of staring off into space. “Now a million years later, we are looking for the path of order again. Why did they disappear?”

“To await the arrival of the master of time!” Chaos Sky answered calmly.

“What?” Li Hao started again. Why? Why time?

Everyone began discussing the secrets of the chaos. This was also a way to seek dao. If they understood their origins, they would further understand the great dao.

“I’m not sure.” Chaos Sky shook his head after some thought. “Perhaps they wished to solidify ordered dao, or perhaps time is needed to reverse the dispersal of spirit. Perhaps one million years is a cycle and they need time to nurture spirit if their descendants wish to become ninth ranks.

“There’s a lot of possibilities! I just want to say that their disappearance might not be to bide their time. Perhaps they’re waiting for a chance!

“In addition, we can’t treat them all as bad guys. I’ve given it some thought and maybe they’re looking for eternal order!

“Can order only be maintained for a period of time?” Chaos Sky waxed eloquent. “Will it fall into disorder again after a period of time? Have these exalted emperors gone somewhere to explore the key to order and make it permanent, so that they never have to worry about disorder again? If that’s the case... so be it!”

That would be the best outcome, that a group of ninth ranks were looking for how to make order permanent. The unpleasant alternative was that they were spending one cycle waiting for the next powerhouse, the master of time, to solidify order for them or reverse their situation!

“No matter what it is, time is probably what they’ve got their eyes set on next,” sneered Spring Autumn. “They may not have anything good in mind. Hao Moon, don’t think that they’re waiting for your success. Perhaps the day you succeed is the day you die! Or perhaps they want time itself to stabilize the chaos, the myriad of daos, and order!”

The Human King’s face twitched when he suddenly thought of something. “New Martial created Big Cat back in the day—the Ash Emperor! The Ash Emperor’s function is to collect all of the trash in the universe and stabilize it. That’s why we’ve quietly raised it all this time...”

He suddenly turned to the young man with a stern look. “Can it be that you... or War, is a second trash can that some people want to create? You might be a trash can for the entire chaos, or another item like a stabilizer or hoisting jack. What about using time to stabilize the universe and all of its daos?”

Li Hao didn’t say a word. His brows were slightly furrowed as he thought over the possibility. Spring Autumn might be trying to scare him, but the Human King might actually think this way because this had indeed been what New Martial intended back in the day.

The Ash Emperor was not everyone’s pet. It appeared to be the favored child of the heavens, but was in reality a trash can for the entire civilization!

New Martial had come after the War Sovereign and the War Sovereign had been very close to the Ash Emperor...

Did this all portend to something? Had War wanted to tell them something? Why had he committed suicide?

Various questions rose in people’s minds. Li Hao didn’t make a sound, whereas the Human King intoned, “Can time... create order? Lasting order?”

“I think so!” Li Hao gave a long exhale. “The dao of time is a bit unique. There is only one time, which means to say that once time assimilates the myriad of daos and they become the one and only within time, their sequence will be stabilized and there will naturally be order!”

“......” Everyone’s expressions changed. Was their speculation true?

“Then the ninth ranks will not permit me to kill you.” Chaos Sky froze. “And the chaos will be hard to be united if I do not kill you. This will suck either way, won’t it?”

“Let’s not talk about this for now!” Li Hao breathed out heavily. “Let’s just put it aside! I don’t know the specifics and neither does anyone here. Everyone, let’s turn our attention back to the great dao!”

He changed the topic and cut straight to the chase. “Our cultivation methods and techniques might be different, but I think our final result is the same! We all seek to build dao rules of order. When it comes to that, nurturing dao spirit is key. That is what the fellow daoists are currently seeking...”

The others nodded. Meanwhile, the discussion didn’t slow down the Human King at all. His furious hacking was almost overtaking Li Hao’s progress.

The young man watched with resignation. Fang Ping... was crazily competitive! Everyone was curious about the conversation at the moment, but he just wanted to keep charging ahead. What a stubborn guy!

Granted, when he thought of how many minor worlds could be saturated with a few billion dao crystals, Li Hao subconsciously walked forward as well. The others were hot on his heels whenever he moved.

The Human King cursed to himself and forged onward!

“We can treat this as a mutual learning opportunity,” Li Hao said as he walked. “I’ll throw out what I don’t understand and everyone is free to mention what you struggle with...

“I’ve discovered one point already, in that there might be more than one spirit that results from a great dao. The chaos might be such a mess because there are too many daos in it. They need to be organized!”

“Do you mean the tiger when you speak of a dao spirit?”

“Yes,” Li Hao nodded. “But my question is, will the overall great dao give birth to a spirit as well? Such as the chaos dao itself?”

Long Zhan colored at this question. The others were also looking at him.

“It might!” he said after a long moment of silence.

The look in Li Hao’s eyes sharpened. The chaos race was naturally attached to chaos dao, so did this mean...

But Chaos Sky turned the conversation to the ninth ranks once more. “If the chaos dao has also produced a dao spirit, then is it the key to all great daos in the chaos? Then are the ninth ranks trying to capture it to destroy it, or do they want to do something else with it?

“Does it have to do with their disappearance? Where is their hiding place? Is it somewhere deep within chaos dao, or does it lie on the so-called edge of the chaos?”

“......” The group exchanged wordless glances, but followed that train of thought.

“Perhaps Fellow Daoist Long Zhan knows the answers,” said Li Hao. “You wish to stop Skyward from returning, right?”

“Right,” Long Zhan said calmly.

“Why?”

“It has nothing to do with our discussion of dao!” The dragon didn’t wish to answer the question.

“You know so many daos. Are you an incarnation of the dao spirit?” The Human King burst out laughing.

Long Zhan ignored him.

“Or are you the dao spirit’s disciple?”

The dragon ignored him.

“Is it your wife? Lover? Mommy or daddy?”

“...we are here to discuss dao, Human King, not to gossip,” Long Zhan snapped. “Grow up!”
