Chapter 2014: Return, Reawakening, Three Thousand Worlds! (II)

Minor worlds were swiftly saturated and Allheaven Hall continued to see a hefty inflow of exalted emperors. No one really cared about Skyward’s impending return. That was a struggle between the big guys. What did it have to do with them?

These days, Allheaven Hall was the most happening spot in all of the chaos.

......

In the depths of the chaos.

A statue suddenly opened its eyes. A world could be glimpsed within it and countless figures hovered within it. They all had imperial presences.

Exalted emperors existed within that world as if they were souls.

“The chaos has once more stabilized after one million years...” the Skyward master’s voice rang out. “We extracted everyone’s energy back in the day to stabilize this spot, draining your life force and vitality.

“I said then that this was just a stop gap measure, that we would awaken everyone sooner or later and bring you back to the chaos! Spirit has begun to develop again with a re-stabilized chaos. The chance to reach ninth rank is at hand again!”

Countless exalted emperors greeted the announcement with joy. So they could be resurrected? They could go back? And they could verify their dao as ninth ranks?

One million years was too long. But thankfully, they were to return at last!

“Skyward was divided into two back in the day. One was outside, the other was inside. There is enough energy to revive the world, as well as dao strength. Today, Skyward is occupied by Long Zhan of the chaos beasts. He is formidable and some of us may have him in our memories.

“The giant dragon that could be seen among the group that crashed the birthday banquet one million years ago was Long Zhan!”

Some memories were jogged by these words and thoughtful looks appeared on faces. Li Hao’s group had changed a few things when they traveled back to the past, which added some scenes to their memories!

“I think there was another one who ruined the dao master’s banquet...” someone in the crowd suddenly said. “It was... the cultivator of time!”

“That is correct,” responded the Skyward master. “Coiling Dragon, you and a few others recognize him, don’t you?”

“We do!” A massive draconic shadow hovered within the crowd. “He once traveled back to the past through my dao foundation site and listened to one of my lectures on dao...”

“That person is near Skyward at the moment. We might need his help if we are to ensure a smooth return.” The Skyward master furrowed his brows. He’d offered to hand over the origin of spatial dao when Li Hao entered the Skyward dao universe. The young man had been very weak then and would’ve ascended to the heavens with one step!

But... he’d turned the offer down.

How many in the chaos could resist the allure of spatial dao? The heavens were right there in front of them!

If Li Hao had taken a step forward that day, he would’ve been able to become a high rank. There would be no need for the desperate fighting that came later and he would’ve entered eighth rank very quickly. Granted, ninth rank would still be very difficult since that wasn’t just a matter of energy.

And yet, Li Hao had let the opportunity slip out of his fingers.

The Skyward master still found it a bit of a pity when he thought of this. Had Li Hao accepted, the current cultivator of time would be a Skyward subordinate through and through.

“The dao chess is still in the chaos and should have recovered its full strength by now.” A new thought occurred to the Skyward master. “It might even have taken another step forward. These will all serve you well on your return!

“Long Zhan will most likely stop you in the process. If you can, kill him!”

Exalted emperors snapped to attention, whereas the Exalted Coiling Dragon Emperor was pensive. Long Zhan was a dragon, a chaos beast. Even if Coiling Dragon didn’t know the full situation, it was... an emotional proposition.

Skyward didn’t say much else. He looked into the distance—a world appeared in his eyes. Skyward.

“Go now, it is time for you to... return! Descend upon Skyward and fully reawaken it!”

“Understood!” chorused the spirits of the cultivators. Those of the eighth ranks were particularly noticeable.

A dark passageway appeared. Darkness loomed endlessly within it.

“Go in!” commanded the Skyward master. Countless spirits melded with it and began shuttling through the void, heading for distant Skyward. “Calamity... I will need your help again this time!”

“I understand!” A giant of thunder and lightning appeared in Calamity’s eye. It very much resembled the Calamity master and seemed to possess a soul of it’s own. “You are the heart of calamity! Return to the chaos and open up Thunder Region. Work with the Skyward cultivators to eliminate all enemies. Ensure that there are no obstacles in the east!”

“Understood!” The giant moved stiltedly, but had some of its own consciousness. It quickly floated into the air like it wasn’t composed of anything and vanished into the passageway.

Statues opened their eyes. Some had a complicated mix in their eyes, others looked on forlornly, and some were excited.

Skyward was the first to return. Perhaps they would soon return to the era of ninth ranks that had existed a million years ago.

It was just...

The modern chaos did not possess sufficient spirit. It hadn’t seemed to recover for a million years. But perhaps everything was about to begin anew with the return of Skyward.

“Is there still no sign of the third generation cultivator of time?” one of the exalted emperors asked.

The wizened statue within the crowd opened his eyes again. “I can see that he... is getting closer to us. The third gen is almost upon us!”

They might know his identity soon. Everything was too wispy even now.

Someone turned to the Skyward master. The second generation cultivator of time had a deep history with Skyward. Skyward had always regarded the young man with hope. If it hadn’t been for him reversing time to wreck the birthday banquet, no one would postulate that the Skyward master was willing to change to someone new.

And now?

Li Hao had been so bold as to reach through time and change the past. Would he be tolerated still?

“Ah, it seems that it’s almost Brother Skyward’s two millionth birthday!” someone chuckled. They just really had to put their foot into it!

The last birthday banquet had not gone well. Time had flown by and it was now an occasion to celebrate the two millionth. Did he want to go again?

Skyward remained quiet. When he saw that everyone seemed to be waiting on him, he said slowly, “Let’s wait and see. Apart from Li Hao, that New Martial Human King has some hope of grasping time as well. Of the others... who is up for the task?”

He didn’t see any promising talents at the moment. Where did the third generation come from? Was he guaranteed to be better than Li Hao?

“Perhaps we can sit down and have a conversation with Li Hao,”” continued the Skyward master. “It will be harder than ascending the heavens for him to reach ninth rank only through the dao of time. He will need our help as well. He was only impulsive for a moment. Why the general outrage?”

The Skyward master still felt that Li Hao was a better candidate, if for no other reason than this person was tied to Skyward. Coiling Dragon and Flamefire were familiar with the young man. While they were separated by space and time, Li Hao owed them favors nonetheless.

So long as the Skyward side wasn’t too out of line, they occupied an absolute advantage in the upcoming struggle.

Those agitating to switch out Li Hao were just rueing the fact that they hadn’t been the first to encounter time and set up their preparations that way. Why should Skyward satisfy them?

And even Calamity... as much as he disliked the young man, he didn’t call for a new cultivator of time. Li Hao cultivated the dao of calamity, after all. No matter what, that had to be acknowledged.

Skyward said nothing else. They could wait and see.

......

At the same time, the west.

Chaos Sky looked into the distance and frowned slightly, sensing something.

“They’ve returned!” he said softly.

“They’ve returned!” A shadow manifested beside him. Skyward had come back.

Chaos Sky then turned his attention to the east, his eyes narrowed. Could Long Zhan stand against them? Would New Martial and Silver Moon involve themselves? If so, who would they help?

Li Hao shared a grudge with Long Zhan.

“Come, let us visit the north!” he suddenly said. “Metal Spirit’s improved a bit during this period and has combined three elements now. That guy... has some ties to those old farts. The five elements are the most basic elementary daos. He might have some connections to the five elemental envoys...”

No matter what, you should just stay in place!

Chaos Sky was about to rise to his feet when he paused, arching an eyebrow. A presence had just flashed out from the south and seemed to be headed north as well.

Spring Autumn!

Chaos Sky’s brows knitted together and he didn’t say anything. Could Spring Autumn not sit still anymore?

That was just as well!

Metal Spirit wouldn’t be able to get up to anything with her in the mix. Chaos Sky looked around and manifested a mirror-like object in his hand. Countless worlds appeared in it!

The chaos was divided into nine layers!

Chaos Sky’s brow rose further when he glanced at it. The worlds in the east had been a bit rowdy and disorganized before. These days, they were much more peaceful.

Allheaven Hall!

“What a pity that Li Hao is unwilling to come to the west,” Chaos Sky suddenly lamented. “He is setting up Allheaven Hall to solve the disarray in the chaos. It is a good establishment and provides a place to discuss dao for all exalted emperors. If he was willing to join my side...”

He trailed off with understanding. He really had hoped that Li Hao would join his banner. Even if the young man didn’t, accepting his rule would be an enormous boon.

“Kill him and seize the dao of time!” intoned the shadow. “The river of time underpins Allheaven Hall. That is a very useful establishment! The eastern region was the most chaotic in the past, but is now at peace thanks to it!”

The exalted emperors of the chaos had too much time on their hands. Their tempers flared easily because they didn’t dare venture out when there was no way to improve. Each of them locked themselves in their worlds from day to day, going nearly stir crazy.

They were naturally irritable and testy due to the state of their lives!

But Allheaven Hall offered an outlet for their frustrations and a platform for them to exchange dao. Everything had changed because of it.

Granted, Chaos Sky would be able to do the same if he finished his grand enterprise. However, that was so much easier said than done. Currently, Li Hao’s river of time was the only and possibly best, most simple way of ensuring that the chaos could swiftly quiet down.

“We can’t do that,” Chaos Sky shook his head. “Are you able to control time just because we kill him? New Martial will set their eyes on us if we kill him. That only increases the number of our enemies!

“Li Hao also represents hope to a portion of the ninth ranks. That still holds true even though he reversed time and offended some when he traveled back to the past...”

“The dao master is wise!” the shadow hastily responded.

It’d been Chaos Sky’s idea to travel to the past. Clearly, he’d known that that would cause Li Hao to offend some people. Otherwise, Li Hao’s status as the cultivator of time would be sufficient to entice support from the ninth ranks!

It wouldn’t matter that some of them weren’t happy. But now, Li Hao had offended too many. That effectively cut him off from those ninth ranks.

It would be too dangerous otherwise if Li Hao and the Human King became minions of the ninth ranks.
