Chapter 2017: Supremacy (I)

Li Hao stood up and looked at the people around him. His voice was as calm as before, but the emotion deep within it could not be hidden.

“The ninth ranks are about to return and the chaos is about to riot! I desire to create a new heaven, which means there will be people who stop me!

“There are thunder tribulations in the chaos that punish those who destroy order, but they were formed for some people’s personal desires,” laughed the young man. “What they call the rules are not actually fair!

“Even if the rules are fair, they are unfair if they are not to my advantage!”

The current Li Hao was full of selfishness, shamelessness, and calculative scheming. Anything that harmed his interests was unfair! Anything that benefited him was fair!

What counts as fair or not hinges on me, not on others.

“I’m going to do some things today that others and the tribulations will find unfair!” Li Hao grinned. “I felt awkward about them at first, but now I see that the so-called master of chaos tribulations and calamity is hardly fair either!

“Since he himself is unjust, what right does he have to punish others? Who the hell does he think he is??

“Rules are set by the strong! They are meant to penalize the weak! If we wish to set the rules, then we must break the rules. It doesn’t matter if the chaos is ordered or not. What’s important is who is building it!

“Order can exist, but it cannot be constructed by others!” Spittle flew from Li Hao’s mouth as he ranted like he was deranged. “We should be the ones to establish it! Chaos tribulations are nothing good. Perhaps we can make use of this opportunity to eliminate the tribulations and kill Calamity!

“Someone who brings disaster upon others must suffer the backlash in return. If no one can deliver that backlash, then permit me, Li Hao, to carry out justice on behalf of the heavens!”

Justice on behalf of the heavens!

Tribulation thunderbolts threatened to gather in the void in response to his words. Li Hao sneered. He was more inclined to violence now than he’d ever been. Desire could drive one crazy, but could also deliver clarity of mind.

“Therefore, the reawakening of Thunder Region is an opportunity for me.” He faced the group. “Of course, it might be dangerous for you guys! This particular campaign is just one of my personal desires...”

The Thunder Emperor had been silent all this time when he suddenly said softly, “Hao Moon... how is there talk of public or personal matters even now? Who among us have not been recipients of your largesse? It’s meaningless to talk about stuff like that!

“We crave freedom, that’s our goal, but that’s not a reason for us to forget what we should be grateful for. Where is there justice and freedom to be found when the chaos is unsettled like this? How are we to build... rules of our own if we do not break what is already in place?

“I wanted to say this a long time ago,” the man chuckled. “Since we’ve exited the four regions and grown stronger, then freedom is our goal and conflict is the process!

“Given the state of affairs, everyone is vying for supremacy of the chaos. Why can’t we do the same?

“We fight not to rule over the chaos, but for absolute freedom! Only with complete power and strength can we ensure total freedom!

“Otherwise, all this talk of being our own person and making our own destiny will become utter bullshit! I struggled in Dragon Region for three hundred thousand years, I crave freedom too. But I lacked strength and power to support my ambitions, so I could only hang my head as a stray dog!

“I’ve always wanted to say something, but set it aside when I saw that you weren’t so inclined. But since you’ve brought it up today, Li Hao... I want to ask... why should we facilitate others in achieving their goals? Why do we watch the clouds pass us by? Why should we sit on the sidelines of war?

“Why can’t we do it ourselves??” The Thunder Emperor pointed into the distance. “We have the saint of humanity—Hong Yitang! He is the rescuer of mankind! We have the dao master of the heavens, you! You spread dao and freedom!

“We have a divine spirit that liberates all living beings and has become a god through faith! We also have an emperor who desires to create a civilization—the Great Li king!

“We have a dao master who commands the dao of emotions! All dao follows the heart! We have me, the Thunder Emperor who can punish everyone beneath the heavens! We also have Fog Mountain who grasps fate and the future. We have the dao chess that possesses all daos and we have Void who wields six daos of the extremities...”

The Thunder Emperor was giving full voice to his frustrations and bitterness!

“The Exalted Hao Moon Emperor is a dao master, the master of the great dao, and the dao master of all heavens. Why... can we not create an era that belongs to us alone?”

Li Hao looked silently at him. All of the exalted emperors in the surroundings were quiet, but there seemed to be some more light in their eyes.

The Thunder Emperor was the world master of the only premier world of humans in Dragon Region. He’d eked out a survival in extremely adverse conditions for three hundred thousand years to protect his world. He’d been suppressed all this time, raged, despaired, and rued his circumstances...

He wasn’t as simple, honest, and forthright as he appeared to be. He’d been suppressed for three hundred thousand years, after all!

The Thunder Emperor had dodged crisis after fatal crisis. After he fell in step beside Li Hao, he’d ended up devouring his own world! Had he done this simply to pursue the freedom of his dreams?

Of course not!

He wanted power, status, strength, and everything else!

He wanted to ensure that those people would never dare bully, insult, or blockade him ever again! They’d cornered him for three hundred thousand years!

He hadn’t been able to fight back with his own strength. There hadn’t been anything he could do. But this time, there was a chance. There was hope. He followed Li Hao, a young man new in his rise, but having a position of his own in the chaos.

He hadn’t been able to voice his thoughts before because Li Hao had presented such an indifferent demeanor. The Thunder Emperor had been concerned that he might annoy the young man if he mentioned it.

But when Li Hao brought up the topic today, the Thunder Emperor smiled with relief. He joyously let loose with everything that’d been on his mind.

“Hao Moon... who else in this chaos is more suited to redefine the rules other than you? You grasp time, calamity, space, have the ability to create a new heaven, compassion toward the masses, and are utterly fearless... Let us overturn this chaos!”

His enthusiasm was starting to infect the rest of the group. Most of them could contain themselves, but Silver Moon martial masters were in immense agreement.

“That’s right! Who’s going to do so, if not us? The Thunder Emperor’s right. We’re with you! We haven’t suffered a major loss ever since we left Silver Moon province!

“If worst comes to worst, we’ll imitate New Martial and die. You can resurrect us!”

“You’ll be able to bring back whoever you want once we redo the rules!”

“That’s right!”

Those words came from Southern Fist and a few others with more volatile tempers. Their only fear was that the universe wasn’t unsettled enough!

“I would say bracing words of restraint before today, but now... I don’t think there’s anything wrong with what you say!” Li Hao grinned. “This is still an era of who has the strongest fist! Whoever does calls the shots!

“I don’t have that many desires. Power and status are secondary to my interests. But when it comes to what I want to do, no one can stop me!”

What does power and status matter? I’m going to do what I’m going to do. No one can make me do it and no one can stop me.

The Calamity master’s chaos tribulations have interfered with my plans many times already, not just once or twice. So he’s also awakened this time! If his powerhouses are coming back, what about him?

Is he returning too?

None of these old geezers are anything good. Do they honestly think I have a good temper with how they’re bothering me again and again?

Li Hao’s impression of Skyward was rather complicated. He didn’t bear a deep hatred against the civilization, he just didn’t know what to think of them. Those of Skyward had once helped him. That was a truth that he could not deny.

But Calamity?

Screw you, old fart!

What right do you have to target me again and again? Who gave you the right to make the rules for the chaos? You don’t follow your own rules, but you want to punish others. You’re such a joke!

“The Thunder Emperor speaks truly, as does everyone else...” chuckled the young man. “While our side is not that strong, we are all growing at a very fast pace! We fuel our wars with other battles. New Martial isn’t the only faction who knows how to do that, so do we as well!

“This time, I hope that we end up with a large number of powerhouses, no matter the cost!”

Spirits immediately rose in the crowd. No matter the cost! Those words were meant for them!

“So you mean... that we can really go all out?” Southern Fist He Yong leered. “It doesn’t matter even if we die in battle, right?”

“That’s right!”

“Fuck yeah!” He Yong brayed with laughter. “I’ve been afraid of dying because that might give you pressure or create a burden for you. It’s been tough these years. We’ve all kept it in because we were afraid of making you sad if we died. We didn’t want to put you in a difficult spot or make things rough for you...

“We’re not afraid of death! As martial masters, it’s enough that we walked out of Silver Moon and made it to our current position. There’s been plenty of life to enjoy! I would’ve started rampaging through the chaos a long time ago if I wasn’t afraid of making you worry. Why should I stay here and suffer through everyone else’s treatment of us?”

Southern Fist was venting his own emotions as he’d been quietly seething all this time. He wasn’t like Celestial Pole and their kind.

Silver Moon martial masters loved taking risks and going on adventures. But they’d all kept a very low profile ever since leaving the world. They were afraid of death not for themselves, but that their deaths might cause trouble for Li Hao...

The young man would have to rack his brains in order to resurrect them, not to mention how shaken and saddened he would be. Li Hao already didn’t have much tying him to this life. What would he do if all of them were dead?

Hence, the mention of “no matter the cost” greatly excited He Yong.

I’m not afraid of death! It’s just kicking up my feet at the end of the day! Living for this long has been enough already!

He Yong was suddenly raring to go. The other Silver Moon martial masters also smiled at the thought of being able to go all out.

The Thunder Emperor and some others were also exhilarated. Even Fog Mountain, the ardent pursuer of freedom, simply shrugged his shoulders without protest.

What they said was true! What kind of freedom could one have without status, power, and patrons?

This entire group would’ve been annihilated by Reincarnation as soon as they made it to the eastern region, if they hadn’t had Li Hao backing them up. What talk of freedom could there be then?

Which of Chaos Sky, Spring Autumn, Five Elements, and some of the other revitalized antiques could they take on?

One did not have the right to consider freedom without enjoying appropriate authority and standing in the universe.
