Chapter 2018: Supremacy (II)

Those not of the Silver Moon contingent had thought themselves to be indifferent to fame or gain. But after meeting Li Hao, they found someone who was even more content with himself. He took life one day at a time and participated in fights if they found him, bypassing them if not.

The group had found it a bit of a pity that they’d bypassed the earlier opportunities. Such was the result of Li Hao’s personality.

It was a very rare occasion that Li Hao proposed battling someone. The last time he’d done so was scheming against Dragon Region. Ever since leaving the four regions, he’d gone with the flow of things. Even when it came to Allheaven Hall, he’d waited for the enemy to come knocking on his door.

He wouldn’t have gone to them had they stayed away. This was one of the few instances in which he wanted to take the initiative!

“Very good!” Li Hao got down to business. “Then our primary goal is Thunder Region. The ninth ranks may not be able to return at present. Even if they do, it’ll most likely be their replicas!

“Our second goal is to pay off our debts and save three people... but just with their lives. This is a simple repayment of previous favors rendered!

“Our third goal is to collect more resources. Everyone’s short on them at the moment!

“Our fourth goal is to weaken all of the ninth rank factions. There are no exceptions, including Skyward!

“Fifth... we march on Long Zhan!”

Those in the crowd swallowed hard. Damn dude. You either don’t do anything at all or you want to do it all!

“I admire Long Zhan, but I’m still going to kill him!” Li Hao laughed. “That’s not a contradiction. I admire him fighting for his race and being the singular support for the chaos beasts. But he is also my enemy, an arch nemesis!

“I killed his wife, his subordinates, and seized his vassal worlds. In the same vein, I do not wish for chaos beasts to be the rulers of the chaos. Hence, I’m putting him down for last. We’ll kill him when the timing is right!

“I hope for everyone to improve on this venture, particularly Lin Hongyu!”

Me? blinked the woman. What does anything have to do with me?

She’d just made it to fifth rank, which was nothing in an era rife with high ranks.

“You need to fully construct your hell this time,” Li Hao smiled. “I’m going to kill people. That will result in corpses, which will produce dead souls. There will be spirit and there will be origin. Whether they are eventually resurrected or not, how are you to capture their spirit and origin if you are not strong enough?

“If we are able to preserve their bodies when my people die, I can just undo the damage and outright revive them at their full strength!

“I won’t have to reverse yin and yang like the Human King does. His way sucks. The person comes back, yes, but they suffer a huge reduction in strength and need to absorb a lot of energy to recover. It’s a process that harms both parties!”

The crowd was speechless once more. Are you... looking down on the Human King? How can you??

“In addition, Director General Zhao must immediately mobilize all Silver Moon cultivators to train in supernatural characters. I want to gather supernatural characters and nurture the spirit! We train an army for a thousand days so they can be used in the moment of battle.

“I want my spirit to be so strong that it can commandeer the myriad daos. That will ensure that I have a chance of continuously growing stronger in battle. Right now, I’m still very weak despite having created three thousand worlds. I’m at five thousand daos at most!

“What good is that kind of strength for? I’m nothing among the list of chaos overlords!”

“Understood!” chorused the crowd. They couldn’t wait to take action. It felt like they’d returned to when they’d jointly stood against Skystar Dynasty.

Li Hao wasn’t satisfied by his speech. He looked around and settled on one person in particular. “Ling Yue!”

The queen quickly presented herself with some apprehension. “What?”

What do you want with me?

“Your hundred billions of humans have always placed their faith in you.” Li Hao smiled at her. “That kind of life is too simplistic. There’s also no place to situate them at the moment, but we can’t just have them waste their days away. What use is there in believing in you? What can you do for them?”

“......” Ling Yue didn’t know what to say. And what do you mean by that?

“There’s another truth in the chaos these days, that there is strength in numbers!”

She understood.

As expected, Li Hao said, “Since your people put their faith in you, have them all cultivate supernatural characters. I don’t care if they succeed or not. With the numbers you have, someone is bound to figure it out.

“I want those characters to nurture my dao spirit! One out of ten thousand of your population is a hundred billion. One out of one hundred thousand is ten billion characters. I said a long time ago that the people’s heart is the most terrifying!

“Your people are devout, so tell them to cultivate right now. There can be no delay! I’ll figure out how to procure the energy they need for cultivation. Senior Number Two will also help. If someone’s great dao can absolutely not integrate with ours, I’ll count on the senior to render aid!”

Simply speaking, the cat was to copy that dao.

Number Two looked on numbly. Are you joking?! One or two is fine, but ten billion?? At a minimum!? I’d rather die. Just let me die. There’s no point in living anymore.

The queen was also taken aback by what she heard. Hundreds of billions of humans cultivating supernatural characters... was a frightening thought.

“Their dao is all tinged with faith,” she had to say. “There’s so much of it that I’m afraid...”

“And what am I afraid of?” Li Hao grinned. “Throw it all to Martial Uncle Hong if there’s too much!”

“......” Man, listen to yourself!

No one knew what to say, or whether they should laugh or cry. Fine then, they understood. Li Hao had never factored those humans into his plans before because they were tied to immense power of faith. Being too pious was a scary notion, but now the young man had found a trashcan.

Hong Yitang.

Indeed, the man just had to go and accept the dao of faith. So it was him!

The queen protested no longer. Fine, I get it. It won’t affect me, anyway. So many people cultivating will consume a terrifying amount of energy. But since Li Hao said that he’ll figure it out, then it has nothing to do with me.

They’ve got nothing else to do, anyway. They’ve almost become robots these days. All they know to do is pray. That’s not actually a good thing. They’ll completely forget who they are after enough time passes.

Distracting them with some cultivation would be good.

“I understand!”

“Good.” Li Hao turned back to the crowd and smiled. “We are upholding justice on this venture and making our might known. We safeguard justice and hunt demons. We glorify dao!”

“......” Eye rolls once more filtered through the group. This was the call that we used to bamboozle others way back. Are you picking it up again?

They’d killed quite a lot of people under the auspices of that battle cry. Those that were Demon Hunters within the crowd looked around in a daze. Even we don’t say that anymore. This is... kinda embarrassing.

“We of Silver Moon are great, but there’s one thing that could be improved about us,” Li Hao laughed. “We care too much about our dignity. Look at New Martial! We should imitate the Human King more and be just as shameless as him. That takes skill too! No one in New Martial cares about their dignity...”

People roared with laughter. Those from New Martial didn’t join in the general mirth. Come on man, that’s just the Human King. We still care about face!

But they started chuckling after a few moments. This wasn’t an insult. It was a compliment in their eyes. Only when one wasn’t hung up about dignity could they move with ease in the world.

......

Ripples traveled through the void.

Countless shadows shot swiftly through a passageway unseen by outsiders. They headed toward Skyward from an unfathomably far locale.

Some were excited, others were agitated, and a few brooded. They were returning to Skyward!

It’d been too long, and yet their return might not go smoothly.

“The dao master wishes for us to become acquainted with the cultivator of time on this trip,” someone suddenly said. “We are unfamiliar with him, but Coiling Dragon, you and a few others have come in contact with him. It was only a split second, but you should’ve felt something, right?”

Among the crowd, Coiling Dragon had maintained human form. He thought for a bit when addressed.

“It’s hard to say, I only met him once in a past lecture on dao. The second time was during the dao master’s birthday banquet. Everyone knows what happened then. It’s hard to give an opinion about that one, but I feel that anyone who can cultivate time will not be a weakling or a benevolent soul...”

He didn’t say much, despite wanting to say that it was best not to have too much to do with Li Hao on this trip. The young man was a ruthless fellow.

He’d once borrowed strength to kill a lot of people. He was vicious and relentless, as well as wholly unconcerned with consequences. If he cared about that, he would not have borrowed strength when he was that weak.

That had been something not so easily returned.

“What are you afraid of? Doesn’t he owe you guys a favor?” laughed the other. “It’s Long Zhan that’s really in trouble this time. If the three of you bump into Li Hao, it’s best to have to take care of the chaos beast. It’s even better if both of them end up heavily wounded!”

“He’s not an idiot...” Coiling Dragon frowned slightly. Was this seriously the plan? Had everyone been affected by a million years of inactivity?

“He’s not an idiot, but neither are we,” snorted the speaker. “What I mean is that Long Zhan is a dragon. Coiling Dragon, I hope you keep in mind that you are a Skyward cultivator!”

We’re no fools, but we know that you’re also a dragon. Therefore, you must use Li Hao’s favor against Long Zhan, do you understand?

Coiling Dragon glowered and didn’t say anything in return. Skyward had many powerful envoys, some of whom were eighth ranks. Even if they weren’t before, they would likely ascend to eighth rank after this revitalization. Hence, he could probably set foot into eighth rank.

However, he was not a human, much less a Skyward human. He was also a chaos beast, one that had sworn fealty to Skyward’s banner.

He was a dragon!

Clearly, people were wary of him.

“There’s no need to harass Coiling Dragon,” Flamefire said when the dragon continued to remain quiet. “We’ll naturally use the debt in this way if there’s an opportunity to do so. Death Envoy, we will be the judge of certain things. You don’t need to suspect anyone.

“Coiling Dragon has been part of Skyward for many, many years. There is no difference between him and any other Skyward cultivator...”

In other words, there is a difference. Coiling Dragon sighed to himself. Flamefire was an affable person. His temper wasn’t that out of control despite cultivating fire. But the others... had always looked down their noses at him. Since their opponent this time was a dragon, that only put them more on guard.

“That’s enough!” The light envoy up ahead interrupted the conversation. “We are yet to return home and fully awaken. There is no need to speak of this! Everyone will be able to improve when we reach Skyward. What’s important is that we complete the dao master’s plan, not who we kill!

“I defected from Light major world back in the day,” smiled the man. “I’m an outsider too. But after joining Skyward, we are all one family. There is to be no talk otherwise!

“What I’m curious about is if there is still a legacy from my world? I remember that someone was rising to power the year I left... How strong must they be if they’re still alive?”

He was both curious and confused, then looked at the dark envoy. “Dark, I remember that you come from Utmost Dark. I wonder how your world is...”

“I’m not sure.” The man shook his head. “It’s been so many years, who knows what the situation is now?”

“But I have a very, very faint sensation... that Light major world might still exist!” smiled the light envoy.

Everyone smiled. There wasn’t much animosity directed at the light envoy.
