Star Gate

Chapter 2019: Supremacy (III)

Although the light and dark envoys were outsiders, they were humans. They’d forfeited their worlds early on to join Skyward. They were so strong that they were part of Skyward’s first batch of eighth ranks. Even the world master hadn’t been a ninth rank then.

Hence, although these two were also outsiders, they received much more respect than Coiling Dragon.

As they chatted, the light envoy glanced at the tribulation giant following behind them. He furrowed his brows slightly—the giant was starting to change as they drew near the four regions.

It’d been just one will emanating from the giant at first, but now there were countless numbers of them. That caused the Skyward powerhouses to consider it gravely.

What was going on here?

That giant seemed to be made of millions of people instead of one person!

Frowns crossed their faces when the Skyward contingent realized this. This might not be a good sign. The group refocused on the direction ahead of them when the passageway changed.

They were much closer to Skyward now, the passageway was starting to turn transparent. Being able to see the surroundings outside delighted the group.

One million years!

The most premier of them could still observe the worlds during their absence, but this group could not. They would’ve gone crazy a long time ago had they not spent this period of time in sleep. Thus, they were extremely worked up to see familiar sights again.

It took only a short period before someone said, “It seems to have... declined some. It’s not as well off as it was in our time. As expected, cultivation decreases from generation to generation! So there isn’t much to those so-called overlords of the chaos...”

“That’s enough!” rebuked the light envoy. “There isn’t much to them? Have you forgotten what we faced a million years ago?”

What is going on in that excuse you call for a brain??

Isn’t much?!

If there wasn’t much to them, how were we so easily defeated when we fought together? Are those people ones to piss off? Have you forgotten all of that?

“That was just in the past...” someone mumbled. “Not to mention, it was the power of time interfering with us. It doesn’t mean that we actually fought them. Besides, that was an alliance of the strongest in the chaos right now! We’re also much stronger than how we were a million years ago!”

They couldn’t accept that their descendants had easily defeated them. The birthday banquet of a million years ago had left a very faint imprint on their minds. It was just a memory, not a record of an actual battle. Therefore, some were quite dismissive that Li Hao had easily defeated them.

The light envoy didn’t bother talking sense into them. Skyward’s cultivators were very proud, and that was to be expected. They had the right to be proud.

It wasn’t like they’d sat idly around in the past one million years. They’d spent most of that time comprehending and studying the dao of ninth ranks. When it came to heritage, they were much stronger in this regard than current cultivators.

The modern chaos was also certainly much inferior to what it’d been a million years ago.

“Settle down. We need to be careful.”

Something seemed to be changing up ahead.

“Hmm? What’s that?”

The passageway was looking different. There seemed to be a... river in it. That was a bizarre addition that confused the group.

Had the dao master created this? He’d made the passageway and the ways of a ninth rank were beyond their comprehension.

Why was there a river here? That was odd!

At this moment.

A pair of eyes appeared over the river.

......

It was Li Hao and the dao star of time!

He’d been part of the chaos all this time, observing the worlds. The young man had picked up on some anomalies in a certain spot. He’d known that the star of time had once entered this passageway.

War had done so, but Li Hao didn’t know why.

And now, he might have the inklings of a clue.

Surveillance?

Or to kill strong foes?

He could see the group of people traveling through the passageway, thanks to the dao star! It took only one glance for his heart to miss a beat. There were so many of them!

They were almost all high ranks. Skyward seemed to have sent only his high ranks back, and there were at least thirty of them. One had to know that when Reincarnation was strong, he only had four eighth ranks and a dozen seventh ranks at his peak.

But right now, Li Hao counted at least thirty. There might even be forty. That was so many!

A ninth rank world was a ninth rank world, after all.

But it was also fewer than what he’d anticipated. When he thought of some of those he’d seen a million years ago... perhaps some were still asleep. Or perhaps they’d died?

He also saw the figure of thunder and lightning behind them. Those were the powerhouses that were going to awaken in Thunder Region, right? How interesting, they’d combined into one thunder spirit.

Should I kill them?

Li Hao discarded the thought as quickly as it formed. Perhaps he could, but it would also expose him. Not to mention, how was he supposed to pay off his debt if they didn’t return?

How would they make Long Zhan suffer if they didn’t return?

And once the Skyward master realized what he’d done, would he still come back through this method?

Indeed, this thing was actually meant to prevent the Skyward master from returning ahead of time!

As strong as the current group looked, they were just small fry. The real big fish were the ninth ranks. Would the ninth ranks make use of this passageway as well?

And would they come in replica form or their primary bodies?

No matter what, Li Hao needed to keep himself well hidden. If not, he’d lose out big time for just a small gain!

He quickly retracted his gaze and thought of War again. The man had connected the dao star of time to this passageway! He’d done so during the rise of New Martial, so that anyone who left the world would see the passageway. Now that was interesting.

Had War wanted the Human King and the rest to rush over there and kill the ninth ranks?

Then he’d be thinking too highly of the Human King, wouldn’t he?

Very interesting all the same!

“They’ve reached my side, so they’ll arrive soon.” Li Hao gazed upon the four regions. “C’mon, let us be on our way!”

They would be here soon.

Granted, they would need some time to revitalize the world upon their arrival. The Skyward master was sure to have made arrangements. Long Zhan probably wouldn’t be able to enter the world to sabotage anything at present.

It was easy for a premier ninth rank to lay down some plans.

“Senior Dao Chess, move out with Panth first,” Li Hao said when a new thought occurred to him. “Also, you were once a Skyward imperial weapon. I understand if you have different opinions about our proposed plan. You don’t have to be involved...”

“I have no desire to betray Skyward,” the dao chess said after a moment of internal struggle. “It’s just that... that... I seem to have recovered some of my original memories lately... after devouring enough worlds and dao strength...

“I may have been an eighth rank world master when I was alive... The Skyward master killed me. So... I should actually count as... his enemy?”

Li Hao looked skeptically at the treasure. Do you just want to turn traitor, but don’t want the bad reputation associated with it? So this is the excuse you come up with?

As for why the dao chess wished to be a traitor?

That was easy!

He was an independent person and greatly respected in Li Hao’s camp. But to Skyward, he was just a weapon. To be honest, it was common for treasures to rebel once they formed their own spirit.

Li Hao could understand it. Who wanted to be someone else’s treasure for the rest of their lives? Of course they wanted to be their own selves after they developed a spirit!

But... this reason was a bit fake, no?

The dao chess shifted with increasing awkwardness. He could read the look in Li Hao’s eyes.

“It’s true!” he felt compelled to explain. “I... I wouldn’t lie!”

This really is the truth!

I have a grudge with him, I’m not lying.

Alright, fine, maybe a little. My memory is real, but I might not have been the world master. I might just be an amalgamation of all the living beings on that world.

I don’t actually hate the Skyward master that much.

But it was a passable reason for his actions. He just didn’t want to be a treasure anymore. Even if he was, he wanted to be a treasure that enjoyed freedom.

Fresh air smelled all too sweet!

He was a venerated guest in Silver Moon and not anyone’s possession. Even Li Hao had to discuss things with him if he wished to borrow the dao chess. The young man couldn’t just take it.

Who wanted to be a lifeless weapon again after tasting freedom?

Not me!

“Then Senior Dao Chess, please go with Panth’s group for now. I’m afraid that those of Skyward can lock onto you. Your group will be Panth, Hu Qingfeng, and yourself. If you use the dao of calamity, that might expose you to Thunder Region. Skyward might find you guys, and for Hu Qingfeng...”

“Don’t worry, Your Lordship!” beamed the man. “I’ll send for the marquis as soon as you give the word. I know what to do!”

He would invite a god to join them!

It wouldn’t be a summons, he would never dare say that. It was truly an invitation.

An invitation for Li Hao!

Li Hao didn’t know what to say. Damn it, what is the thing that Hu Qingfeng keeps inviting? Do I need to be worried?

What if he pulls out a Li Hao one day that’s not me? That’ll be awkward. There’s spirit in the great dao, so this guy better never make it to ninth rank. If he does and summons a Li Hao with spirit...

Weird, so weird!

“Alright then, everyone has their immaterial worlds on hand. You can contact each other at any time and also summon each other! We must... make the name of Silver Moon known throughout the chaos!”

Li Hao drew a lofty picture and led his people in a charge at the four regions.

Skyward was fully returning.
