“Nurture our own spirit? And how long will that take?” someone else sneered from behind, before the light envoy had a chance to say anything. “There is only a faint spirit in the chaos these days. We might run out of lifespan before our spirit matures.
“Since it exists in the chaos, why not take it directly? You’re so juvenile, Long Zhan!”
There was spirit to be claimed right in front of them. Why not extract it?
Who knew if they would succeed in cultivating their own, and even if they could, they knew full well how hard it was to nurture the spirit of great dao. How much time would it take?
A million years?
They weren’t young anymore!
Even though they enjoyed immense lifespans at their level, they were now very old. And while they’d been silenced for the million years that they’d been away, time had continued to flow during this period. It hadn’t been frozen!
Even they would die soon if they didn’t reach ninth rank!
Wasn’t it courting death to throw away something right in front of them in order to figure out something by themselves?
Long Zhan took a deep breath. That was true! There was nothing else to say. He’d had the tiniest bit of hope before this...
But just as those from Skyward said, he’d come face to face with how naive he was being. Why invest time and effort in something that could be had for free?
He shouldn’t have bothered asking.
That’s just as well, this fully kills my hope. It took so many years for the spirit of the chaos to recover just a little. If this group draws on it again, there might not be anymore chaos beasts born in the future.
This is a matter of our survival and potential extinction!
This was no longer a struggle of dao, but of the viability of a race. It might not be what the Skyward contingent thought they were doing, but that was the truth of their actions. Regardless, they didn’t care about the consequences of what they did.
So what if there were no more chaos beasts in the universe? The chaos was so vast, would the absence of chaos beasts affect anything?
“Roar!!” The chaos shifted color and endless chaos strength agitated! A massive dragon thousands of meters long manifested amid shocked gazes. It was golden and had nine claws.
On Skyward, Coiling Dragon’s eyes widened with surprise. This was...
Dragon Emperor!
Long Zhan rarely revealed his true form, but today, he put his primary body on display. His roar echoed through the four regions, “Since Skyward seeks to end my race, there is no possible end for this war other than death! There will be no peace in the chaos without the demise of Skyward! Follow me... and kill!”
BOOM!
The enormous dragon tail swept forward with a momentum of smashing through worlds. It was only a moment, but it seemed like the entire chaos was about to fall to pieces.
Long Zhan no longer hesitated. Eradicating his opponents was their only way out.
Rumble!
Skyward cultivators hadn’t expected that the chaos beast would be so decisive. He’d started attacking before finishing his words. The envoys of light and dark, life and death materialized at the same time. They responded in unison!
RUMBLE!!
Overwhelming dao strength erupted and swept through the worlds. Long Zhan fought one against four, yet still dominated the field. He was much stronger in his primary body. The chaos beast could actually manage to hold his own against four envoys!
The sight lifted the spirits of the chaos beasts like no other. Their lord had struggled to fight one against two. But now, he was the same going one against four. As they thought, the Dragon master was invincible!
“Kill!!” Tiger roars and phoenix cries blasted forth. All chaos beasts sped for Skyward. Within the crowd, Red Moon vanished and darted into the void, heading for Skyward as well.
......
At the same time, Thunder Region.
Thunder pillars continuously shifted. Out of the thousands in the region, two dozen ultimately transformed into people and gathered together. When they sensed the presences erupting from the four regions, one of the tribulation giants started laughing.
“Long Zhan... is very strong, alright! But Skyward is stronger. Even if he fights one against four, the powerhouses under his command are far beneath Yin, Yang, and the rest...”
Ripples from the conflict could be felt throughout the region. They’d reached Thunder Region. Skyward seemed to hold the advantage for now as the twelve eighth ranks were all very strong. It was only a matter of time before Long Zhan was defeated if this situation went on.
“Thunder, what should we do?”
“Hold your horses, Plague.”
Thunder was the leader of this expedition. All of them represented the Calamity master. There was Plague, Thunder, Avalanche, Earthquake...
They were disasters, each and every single one of them.
Thunder Region had its fair share of powerhouses, but it didn’t compare to Skyward. That had been a truly premier major world back in the day. Thunder Region was slightly worse off, but possessed multiple eighth ranks nonetheless. The rest of them were all seventh rank.
They couldn’t compare to the best, but were far from the worst.
“Someone’s coming...” Thunder frowned slightly. “Those who dare intrude on Thunder Region at a time like this... has to be the New Martial that the dao master spoke of, yes?”
One presence, two presences, three presences...
He could sense many heavyweights. The rest of the group champed at the bit to fight. Thunder, however, suddenly smiled.
“Avoid them and let them into the four regions. Long Zhan might be defeated soon without them. Remember, we have two goals on this trip!
“The first is to strengthen Thunder Region and extract enough spirit for the dao master to descend!”
Their dao master would be able to arrive in person and retain his strength so long as they collected enough spirit! The dao of a ninth rank required spirit to maintain.
Secondly...
Thunder didn’t voice the second goal aloud, but everyone knew what he spoke of. The dao master had reminded them before coming that there was no need to pay attention to what happened to Skyward. They weren’t really one family.
Their second goal was to seize time!
Indeed, seize time.
New Martial was not the master of time. Allowing New Martial to head inside now would balance the two sides. Otherwise, wouldn’t it be Thunder Region that was in trouble if Skyward won quickly?
A stalemate needed to be created!
Thunder Region’s target was actually Li Hao, the cultivator of time.
......
As the four regions shook from unrest.
Powerful presences suddenly shot through Thunder Region and raced through the territory, ending up at Skyward!
A mirthful gleam appeared in Long Zhan’s eyes as he fought his enemies. I knew it!
Whether it’s New Martial or Silver Moon, they won’t sit idly by. They’ll come along, whether to handle me or Skyward.
He’d been waiting for this development as well. These people were bound to come so long as fighting broke out. Whether it was helping him or his opponents, that was all the same to Long Zhan.
The former would mean that an opportunity was at hand. The latter meant that he would die faster. There was no difference between the two.
The Human King let loose with tyrannical laughter that had a mocking tone to it. “Four regions, I said before that I would return when Skyward revitalizes!”
His laughter reverberated through the void!
“The master of the four regions should be surnamed Fang!” he hooted.
“New Martial?” the light envoy suddenly grunted. A wave of power flared out from the man when something occurred to him and he shouted, “Is that Ming Hao?”
Ming Hao?
Who was that?
......
On the New Martial side.
The Light master looked on solemnly. He outright froze when the light envoy shouted, completely shaken by what he’d heard. Next to him, some of the New Martial exalted emperors exchanged glances with each other.
“My name... is Ming Hao...” the Light master murmured. “That... light envoy... seems to be the previous generation... dao master... of Light major world!”
The Light master was not the first generation dao master. He was no spring chicken and was, in fact, rather old. He was a veteran eighth rank among the four regions. He’d once met the Skyward light envoy when he was very, very young.
He’d been so young then that he didn’t really remember who that person was.
But now he recalled that who everyone thought of as the light envoy was... the last world master. There wasn’t much more he knew about it since in his memories, that person should’ve died a long time ago.
The Light master looked around him, his expression shifting slightly. Would New Martial treat him differently because of this? He hadn’t known about this detail before they came!
Flare Sun and other Light exalted emperors around him also tensed. So the light envoy is our previous world master? They were comparatively younger and hadn’t experienced an age in which Skyward had been active. Hence, they didn’t know about any of this.
“Big brother, is that... your father?” Flare Sun couldn’t help but transmit.
“......” The Light master nearly gave him a knuckle sandwich. My father? More like your father! “No! They said that the previous generation world master had fallen, which contributed to my rise. But I did see him once and my Divine Fist of Light... comes from him!”
Did he count as a teacher?
Not quite. The Light master had been a genius among the younger generation back in the day, so he’d caught the eye of the world master and had been personally taught that battle method.
The Light master struggled with a headache.
Before they came, the Human King had said that this trip was to dismantle Skyward. So... how am I related to our opponents?
“This is great!” beamed the Human King. “Ole Light, your fortune has arrived! That’s a peak eighth rank cultivator of light in front of us! I’ve been thinking that you don’t seem to have gained much from running around with us.
“Your son is an eighth rank, but you’re still an eighth rank of roughly three thousand dao rules. That’s awful. Let’s kill him! He definitely took a lot of your dao origin with him when he left your world and melded it into Skyward’s dao origin.
“It’d be a perfect match for you if you devour it all. You stand a chance of making it to five thousand dao rules this time!”
Fang Ping was absolutely overjoyed!
The Light master blinked. Um... wait... didn’t you hear me earlier? I know him! He knows me!
We’re from the same world and he’s the previous generation dao master. Whereas I...
“What are you staring off into space for?! Get him!” shouted the Human King. “We’re going to help Ole Light this time! They say that people who run around with Silver Moon get to eat five times a day, but those with New Martial starve three meals a day!
“I almost can’t show my face in the chaos anymore! If we take him out, Ole Light will strike it rich and our pal Flare Sun here will also enter eighth rank. That’ll put the shine on our faces!
“CHARGE!!”
