Star Odyssey

Chapter 4495: The Bound Bird

Lu Yin was dragged to the place where light was missing, and he was to be used to fill the gap. The light around him seemed to have come alive as it converged upon him. Every strand of light carried endless pressure. The moment a strand touched his hands, legs, or head, he felt as if he were being crushed by a gigantic object.

Countless people watched, their eyes nearly splitting apart. Their human civilization had only just managed to escape a truly desperate situation. Why were they facing such despair again? So many had already died in battle, and Lord Lu had paid such a tremendous price for them to reach their current status. Were they really about to perish after all of that? Was it really impossible for their human civilization to continue existing?

Light flowed across Lu Yin's body. He spat out a mouthful of blood. Beneath the crushing pressure, his internal organs felt as though they were being pulverized. He was enduring the pressure of an entire megaverse. No, it was several times more than that. This might even be the pressure of dozens of megaverses.

Gao Tian’s wings rose up, and drops of blood fell. They were strikingly vivid beneath the light, like red jewels falling from the sky. "You will be the last human I remember."

With that, one Godplume Spear after another appeared. They hung in place before shooting toward Lu Yin.

Sky Mending alone was still not enough. The Plume Immortal wanted Lu Yin's blood to stain the sky red, to stain the human civilization red. No one could stop it. With Gao Tian as the sky above, everyone could only watch as the Godplume Spears shot towards Lu Yin. It was as if they could already see him being torn into pieces.

Within the light, Lu Yin's expression was as deep as the sea. Enduring the endless crushing pressure, his heart beat. Once. Again. Again...

Thump.

Thump.

Thump.

The sound of the beating heart resounded in the ears of Gao Tian, Green Lotus, and countless others. Even at a distance of one years’ travel away, the sound rang in the ears of countless people within the Tianyuan.

The people of the Tianyuan were not able to see Lu Yin being trapped by Sky Mending, about to be pierced by Godplume Spears.

However, the moment that they heard the heartbeat, it was as if the cosmos itself had shifted to show them Lu Yin’s perspective. They saw the Godplume Spears drawing near. They were clearly moving incredibly fast, so why did they look so slow? They seemed so slow that it was laughable.

Gao Tian stared in disbelief. How could such a powerful heartbeat possibly come from a human? Just how strong was this human's physical body? Or was it not just physical strength? What could it be?

The heartbeat was so clear to everyone, as if they were right beside Lu Yin’s heart, and yet he was so far away. Sound should not be able to carry so far.

Thump.

Thump.

Thump.

The louder the sound grew, the slower the Godplume Spears seemed to move. But in the eyes of Gao Tian and Green Lotus, the Godplume Spears had not actually slowed at all. So where did this contradictory sense of slowing come from? It was as if the sky was no longer that same sky and the cosmos was no longer the same cosmos.

Wait. Gao Tian suddenly looked back at Lu Yin. No longer the same cosmos?

Lu Yin's expression changed from profound to calm. One finger moved, then his hand and arm slowly rose up, followed by his leg moving, and finally his entire body.

He was clearly still under the crushing pressure of Sky Mending, but at this moment, Lu Yin stepped out of it. The flowing light was like a cascade of water falling over him, glimmering with rainbow-like colors.

Gao Tian stared in disbelief. "You...?"

Impossible. How could this human possibly walk out of Sky Mending?

Lu Yin calmly looked over at Gao Tian. The host of Godplume Spears were still headed straight for him, but the next moment, he vanished from where he stood.

Gao Tian coughed up blood. Broken. Its Sky Mending had been broken again. Just what had this human done?

Green Lotus and the others were still staring in shock. From despair to hope, the changes that Lu Yin had brought about were simply too great. But how had he accomplished it?

Lu Yin suddenly appeared behind Gao Tian and threw a punch.

The bird spun around, teleporting to evade the attack. At this moment, it looked at Lu Yin with a completely different expression. What exactly was this human hiding?

Lu Yin immediately teleported in pursuit of the Plume Immortal. Gao Tian kept evading, but it never managed to get away. Blood was dripping from the corner of its mouth. The cosmic law that sustained Sky Mending had been broken, and the bird’s aura was steadily falling. It had suffered this same kind of injury from Wang Wen, and Lu Yin had just replicated that situation. Gao Tian was unwilling to accept this. Why could this human do such a thing? What kind of cosmic law had he comprehended?

Lu Yin continued his pursuit in silence. His eyes shifted as he tracked the bird’s every move. He raised a finger and pointed. No one knew what he had done, as nothing could be seen.

Not even Green Lotus could sense anything. Karma? No, after his breakthrough, Lu Yin had not once used the power of karma, divine energy, or Stillness. No one could understand just what kind of change Lu Yin's breakthrough had actually brought about.

Lu Yin kept teleporting about, attacking again and again with his invisible attacks. No one could see anything, not even Gao Tian.

The Plume Immortal grew increasingly uneasy, and it tried to teleport far away this time. This battle was already over. It no longer wanted to fight as this human might actually be able to kill it. As impossible as that seemed, the possibility was real.

It teleported again. Gao Tian gaped at its surroundings in astonishment. It was still in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. How was that possible?

It looked down and saw a strand of consciousness attached to its talons. It was the Heaven and Earth Lock.

There was not just one, but rather several Heaven and Earth Locks trapping it. They had all appeared at the same time.

Is this the power of consciousness? Gao Tian tried to break them apart, only to find that it was impossible.

How could that be? Why was it unable to break a mere consciousness battle technique?

Everyone watching was similarly stunned. The Heaven and Earth Lock was one of Lu Yin's old battle techniques, but he had not used it in a very long time. No one had expected him to suddenly bring it out in this battle, much less use it to trap Gao Tian and even prevent it from teleporting.

That was Gao Tian's teleportation ability.

Lu Yin stared at the Plume Immortal, stepped forward, and then threw a punch straight at it.

A Godplume Spear shot out. Lu Yin opened Heaven’s Sight, and Manifestation Beyond the Pupil appeared in front of him.

Bang!

With a deafening crash, the Godplume Spear slammed into a plate of armor while Lu Yin's punch struck Gao Tian, driving it back.

Gao Tian teleported, but it only managed to cover a very small distance. It was still trapped by Heaven and Earth Lock.

Impossible, impossible, impossible! How could this human possibly trap me?

That was not an ordinary Heaven and Earth Lock, but rather one infused with green motes of light. The Heaven and Earth Lock was the form, but the motes of green light were the true essence.

Throughout the battle against Gao Tian, Lu Yin had been thinking about how he could stop the bird from escaping. No matter how fierce the fight became, if Gao Tian decided to leave, it could simply teleport away. No one could stop it, including Lu Yin.

It was only after being crushed within Sky Mending that Lu Yin had remembered the green motes of light. Those lights might work.

They were capable of breaking free from the Ten-Eyed Divine Crow's Crow Immobilization and Crow Reversal, and the Divine Crow had been known to possess the most powerful innate gifts in existence. If those green lights could even overcome an ultimate innate gift, then they should also be able to break the Plume Immortals' teleportation.

Lu Yin had simply tried it, and the results were readily evident. Gao Tian’s teleportation really was broken.

Using the Heaven and Earth Lock as the form and the green lights as the essence, the two combined to seal off the bird’s ability to teleport. Not even a supreme powerhouse like Gao Tian could escape.

However, the prerequisite was that Lu Yin needed to be capable of defeating the bird.

As it happened, because Sky Mending had been broken, Gao Tian's aura was steadily weakening. It had already fallen from the level of a three-law Immortal. At this moment, there was little difference between it and Death's Dominion.

Kill!

Gao Tian screeched. Its talons tore at the Heaven and Earth Lock, but even if it could rip apart the consciousness, the motes of green light could not be touched. In fact, the bird could not even see them at all. It kept teleporting, vanishing, but it was forced to remain within the vicinity.

Lu Yin teleported after the bird, pursuing it and silently throwing punch after punch. Each one slammed into Gao Tian's body. After taking dozens of blows, Gao Tian vomited blood and shouted, "Human, are you really determined to drag both of us down to ruin?"

Lu Yin remained silent. He grabbed one of Gao Tian's wings and tore open a bleeding gash with a savage pull. Gao Tian let out a miserable cry and then swiped at Lu Yin with its talons.

Bang!

Lu Yin was blasted backward, his arm split open. He also spat out blood.

Gao Tian stared at Lu Yin. "You're not as relaxed as you appear. Sky Mending has already dealt you heavy damage. Human, don't seek death."

Lu Yin could not speak. He was forcibly holding in his breath, suppressing his internal injuries.

Gao Tian was right. Sky Mending had badly wounded him. No matter how formidable Lu Yin might be, no matter how strong the cosmic law that he had comprehended was, he simply could not ignore the ultimate move of a three-law powerhouse.

Only Lu Yin himself knew how severe his injuries truly were. Even Extremes Must Be Reversed could barely keep him together at this point.

It could only be said that Lu Yin and Gao Tian were evenly matched, given their current states. But so what? The mangy bird had to die.

He clenched his fist and threw another punch. Gao Tian screeched, "Human, we Plume Immortals do not have to be your enemies! Do not force me!"

Yet another fierce punch slammed into the bird. The crisp sound of snapping bones rang out as the Plume Immortal was blasted downward. Furious, Gao Tian lashed out with its talons, ripping Lu Yin's flesh apart again. A Godplume Spear shot forward, only to be met with Manifestation Beyond the Pupil. Invisible slashes fell with the flurry of talon attacks. Lu Yin only resonated with one cosmic law, and he pulled back, only to release a blast of Willforce. Gao Tian teleported aside to evade that attack. While it was not able to move far away, it could still open up some distance. Without a choice, Lu Yin could only teleport after it again.

The same scene repeated again. Teleporting without pause, the two figures fought each other like mad outside the Nine Odysseys Megaverse.

The difference this time was that both were now approaching their limits. Whether it was Lu Yin or Gao Tian, each was enduring with sheer force of will.

The clash and exchange between the two sent blood scattering across the cosmos. Blood scorched the void. Bloodstained feathers fell. Lu Yin tore his outer garment open to reveal a body covered in wounds. Crack after crack started to open up from the inside. This was the result of the heavy damage that Sky Mending had inflicted upon him. Every one of Gao Tian’s strikes only worsened Lu Yin’s injuries, while every punch shook Gao Tian's body closer to collapse.

Lifeforce boiled, and Lu Yin's breath burst forth like a dragon. For some time, Gao Tian’s only thought was of escape. Its determination to fight and kill its opponent could not compare to Lu Yin's, and it was slowly being suppressed. All the bird could do was continue to teleport about and continue its attempts to flee.

By chance, it teleported right in front of Green Lotus, who immediately lashed out with a palm strike. That attack caused Gao Tian to cry out in agony.

At some point in time, the power of Green Lotus's attacks had actually surpassed what Lu Yin was capable of unleashing.

Lu Yin was already at his limit, but Green Lotus was not. His Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm may have been exhausted, but his Law of Compression remained intact. The man himself also possessed the power of a peak two-law Immortal, and at this moment, Gao Tian was practically at the same level.

The blood vessels in Lu Yin's eyes grew bright as he watched Gao Tian teleport again in an attempt to flee. Only he was able to see the green motes of light attached to the Heaven and Earth Lock that kept Gao Tian trapped.

Lu Yin controlled the Heaven and Earth Lock, and he violently hurled Gao Tian closer to Green Lotus.

The Greater Sancte struck with Thousand-Petaled Lotus Hand. His hand carried the power of a megaverse, and the blow distorted half of Gao Tian's body.

The bird teleported again, only for Lu Yin to fling it back with the Heaven and Earth Lock once again. Green Lotus attacked, but this time, he missed. Gao Tian was teleporting with greater frequency and shorter periods of time in between. Although the green motes of light ensured that it could not move very far, they also made it very difficult to control the Plume Immortal. It moved like a bird that might break free from its restraints at any moment. It could not escape, but it was also impossible for anyone to truly control it.

Just then, a red umbrella blotted out the cosmos. Ancestor Lu Yuan had arrived with Chu Songyun, who then opened the Red Umbrella. With that, the encirclement around Gao Tian started to tighten.
