Tuo Lin would never refuse a request from Lu Yin. "I understand, Master. Your disciple will definitely master the Heartbond Nonduality."
Lu Yin approvingly said, "That’s good. Once you master it, our civilization will gain another invincible powerhouse. I look forward to seeing that day."
Tuo Lin clenched his fists, his face flush with excitement. "I understand, Master!"
The green stalk swayed.
"Little Ruyu needs to work hard too."
The green stalk swayed even harder, also greatly encouraged.
Hui Can was quite envious. This was an invincible technique, the Heartbond Nonduality, from the Fifth Rampart. Everything involved in this matter sounded powerful. Why could he not cultivate this technique? And even in Manifest City, was he doomed to be a mere stray cat?
No, he had to also seek out his own opportunity. He would gain nothing by staying here. But how could he tell his master?
Lu Yin looked at Hui Can. "Whether you want to leave or stay is up to you."
Hui Can grew excited. "Really? Master, your disciple... your disciple wants to leave."
Tuo Lin was reluctant to part ways. "Junior Brother, are you leaving?"
Hui Can rolled his eyes. "I’ll come back to see you when I have time."
The green stalk swayed, also reluctant to separate from him.
Lu Yin found the entire situation amusing. "Hui Can, do you still remember whose descendant you are?"
"Progenitor Hui." Hui Can did not hesitate at all.
Lu Yin nodded. "I will take you to meet Progenitor Hui."
Hui Can was shocked. "Is Progenitor Hui still alive?"
Lu Yin let out a breath, picked up the stray cat that was Hui Can, and then left Manifest City.
Tuo Lin reluctantly watched them leave. "Master, do not worry. Your disciple will definitely master the invincible technique and go out to help you fight the enemies. Your disciple will definitely work hard.
"Little Ruyu, let’s do it together!"
The green stalk swayed. A light breeze blew past, stirring up dust and leaving the courtyard much cleaner.
Elsewhere, Lu Yin delivered Hui Can to Master Qing Cao.
Hui Can was completely stunned. Master Qing Cao? What’s going on?
And what happened to the Nine Odysseys Megaverse? Where’s the Mother Tree?
Hui Can had been lucky during the Trio’s recent war, as he had been in Manifest City with the other fortunate ones. None of them had been affected, so he had no idea that anything had happened at all.
Lu Yin did not have the time to spare for an explanation. He simply carried his disciple directly to Master Qing Cao. A person should teach their own descendants. Progenitor Hui had been born from Greater Sancte Mi Jin, which meant that Hui Can was Mi Jin’s descendant.
Master Qing Cao clearly knew about Hui Can. "Leave this child to me."
Lu Yin nodded. "Sorry to trouble you."
In this way, Hui Can could acknowledge his ancestry and return to his roots, and he would also gain other paths to choose from. Lu Yin might not necessarily be able to teach him anything.
Also, this allowed Master Qing Cao to offer an explanation to his descendants. After all, Hui Can truly was the man’s descendant, and that relationship had to be acknowledged.
Hui Can was still in a daze. He knew Master Qing Cao. Why was he being left with this man? What a joke! In the Trio, even if Master Qing Cao was not openly denounced by everyone, it was not far from that. Even though the top powerhouses had never revealed anything, the cultivators below them had certainly discussed the matter. Qing Cao was the cause of Greater Sancte Mi Jin's death. He had joined Obscura, weakened the Tianyuan’s potential, and done many more utterly contemptible actions.
That was only reputation, which Hui Can did not actually mind. Even his own master did not say anything, so it was not Hui Can’s place to be concerned.
No, he was concerned about the fact that Master Qing Cao was not powerful. Forget comparing him to Lu Yin, but Qing Cao could not even compare to Greater Sancte Blood Tower or Greater Sancte Awe Gate. At most, he was about the same as Chen Jian or Ku Deng. If Hui Can followed Master Qing Cao, would his future not be completely ruined?
"Master, your disciple wishes to return to Manifest City. Your disciple has thought things through, and Manifest City is dangerous. It isn’t convenient for Senior Brother to look after Little Ruyu on his own. Someone needs to help take care of those two, so Master, please allow your disciple to go back," Hui Can hurriedly protested.
Lu Yin just smirked at him. "Do you know who this person is?"
"Senior Master Qing Cao. Your disciple knows."
Lu Yin shook his head. "Wrong. This is Greater Sancte Mi Jin."
Hui Can's mouth fell open, his face betraying all of his questions. Just what is going on?
***
Lu Yin returned to the Tianyuan and immediately entered the Mirari Realm. He needed to spend some time studying his Investiture of the Gods and Champions' Stage Purgatory.
Ming Yan was still within the Investiture of the Gods, while the Champions' Stage Purgatory had actually taken in Gao Tian's image. Lu Yin needed to thoroughly understand both of the changes in his innate gifts.
He had matured. Compared to his former self, he was able to remain patient. In the past, how could he have had the patience to go to Vestigium and handle various matters immediately? Instead, he would have undoubtedly investigated his own changes at once.
In the Mirari Realm, Lu Yin sat down cross-legged. Above his head, the Investiture of the Gods released its golden light while the Champions' Stage Purgatory slowly rotated in front of him.
Ming Yan's consciousness emerged from the Investiture of the Gods, and she gazed at Lu Yin with heartache. She then immediately returned.
Lu Yin proceeded to study the Investiture of the Gods and Champions' Stage Purgatory, finding what had changed after his breakthrough. Both innate gifts had definitely changed, but just what they had become and how they could be used required practice and understanding.
Day passed after day. Bathed in the radiance of the Investiture of the Gods, Lu Yin quietly sensed his innate gifts, occasionally touching Champions' Stage Purgatory as his mind constantly churned, and he tried an endless list of various things.
Who knew how much time passed before he opened his eyes again.
All of his efforts proved to be useless. He could see Gao Tian's image on the Champions' Stage Purgatory, but how was he supposed to use it? Summoning a champion was completely impossible. Things were not what he had initially suspected. There was no need for his cultivation to reach a certain level before he could summon this champion. If that were the case, he would at least be able to feel something. Instead, he felt nothing at all.
Where exactly had things gone wrong?
Lu Yin closed his eyes again and quietly felt it.
A long time passed again. Zhao Ran passed by again and again, before leaving again and again.
Lu Yin still could not find anything. He focused his mind, held his breath, stilled his heart, and slowly sensed things. Starting from his earliest experiences with his innate gifts, he searched bit by bit, trying to find anything at all.
After still more time had passed, he suddenly released his Karmic Dao. Endless spirals of karma shot into the sky, creating a spectacular sight and instantly prompting Zhao Ran to call out a warning, "Your cultivation is too high now. Any move you make here might pull down the true River of Aeons."
Lu Yin hurriedly restrained himself. "I know."
Being an Immortal was different from being an Aberrant. He needed to somewhat restrain himself.
The reason why he had released his Karmic Dao was because his Investiture of the Gods and Champions' Stage Purgatory had been altered during his time in the Spirit Nidus. Neither was his original innate gift.
What was his Karmic Dao?
The Investiture of the Gods served as the heavens above, while the Champions’ Stage served as the prison below. Land hung in the void, stars revolved, phenomena swirled, and hidden sourcebox arrays concealed themselves. Verdant Eternity enclosed everything from the outside, while the Wordless Heavenly Book rested within. There was the Dust World, Lightstream, karma, and time. It could hold countless living beings, and with them, endless karma and fate!
This was the Karmic Dao that he had comprehended. The Investiture of the Gods and Champions' Stage Purgatory were now both part of his Karmic Dao. Neither was a distinct innate gift anymore.
If they were still in their original forms, it would have been impossible for Gao Tian's image to appear in it.
This was similar to Progenitor Chen's Heaven's Furnace. Against the pseudo-Immortal from the Divine Realm, his innate gift had proven to be completely useless. The gap was simply too great.
If Lu Yin's Champions' Stage were still in its initial form, it would have been entirely insufficient to contain Gao Tian.
While innate gifts could indeed grow stronger, it was very difficult to alter their essence, which was why battles between Immortals very rarely involved their innate gifts. When they did, those innate gifts’ essences had already changed.
Lu Yin’s own Investiture of the Gods and Champions' Stage Purgatory were both examples of that.
That was why, with Gao Tian's image appearing, he could no longer consider the Champions’ Stage independently, but rather as a part of his Karmic Dao as a whole.
Upon altering the direction of his thoughts, Lu Yin tried again, linking karma to the Champions’ Stage Purgatory as he sought a method to use Gao Tian.
Suddenly, the image on the Champions' Stage Purgatory twisted slightly.
Lu Yin saw it. It was no illusion. It had definitely shifted a bit.
He grew excited. He had found the right direction. He kept trying. In the end, it was still karma.
From atop the branch of the River of Aeons, Zhao Ran watched Lu Yin research his new innate gifts with bright eyes. At this moment, he did not possess the slightest bearing of Lord Lu. This was the Lu Yin that she had known all along. This was the Lu Yin who had drunk her herbal teas and terrified her each and every time.
That was the Lu Yin who had carved down his own name and experiences, all to keep himself from forgetting.
Along the way, how much have you forgotten? Only your heart remains unchanged. In truth, many times, everyone has hoped for you to just be happy, even if only for a moment.
Without the Mirari Realm, human civilization would have never been able to survive for this long. At the very least, when Wang Wen had initiated the war upon the Trio, Lu Yin absolutely would not have possessed the same level of power.
The Mirari Realm had saved him far, far too much time.
The same was true now as he tried to learn how to use his new Champions' Stage Purgatory.
Again and again, he used karma to nudge Gao Tian's image, but the image merely shifted slightly. No champion appeared. Since the Champions’ Stage Purgatory was a part of his Karmic Dao, then awakening Gao Tian as a champion required not just the Champions' Stage Purgatory, but rather his entire Karmic Dao.
His thoughts had been wrong from the very beginning. He had considered the Investiture of the Gods as something separate from the Champions' Stage Purgatory, but in reality, they had long since become one. This was how his innate gifts had transformed.
With that realization, the golden light of the Investiture of the Gods enveloped the Champions' Stage Purgatory, and karma linked the two together. Instantly, Lu Yin seemed to hear Gao Tian's cry. At that moment, the bird’s image seemed ready to soar straight into the sky, but it only lasted for a mere moment. When Lu Yin looked back, the image seemed to have not moved at all.
Still, in that instant, Gao Tian's image had been granted something.
The image on the Champions' Stage Purgatory was like a human body. The Investiture of the Gods enveloping it was like granting it a soul, which was why he had heard that cry. With both body and soul present, what was still missing? Of course, it was consciousness, the self-awareness that granted one the ability to act.
Consciousness?
As it happened, that was contained within the Investiture of the Gods.
A figure emerged from the Investiture of the Gods. Shockingly, Ming Yan had reappeared. "Brother Lu?"
"Yan'er, help me."
Ming Yan smiled brightly. "All right."
Time continued to pass. The surging River of Aeons flowed through the Trio. When Lu Yin entered the Mirari Realm to experiment, the people who had been cultivating there left one after another.
When Ming Yan appeared and started cooperating with Lu Yin in his attempts, even Zhao Ran rowed her small boat away.
This had nothing to do with Ming Yan. Rather, as Lu Yin's experiment progressed, even though he had not asked anyone to avoid him, everyone knew that even the slightest improvements that Lu Yin could make would impact their entire human civilization. It was better to not allow any information regarding his abilities to leak out.
Zhao Ran sealed off the entire Mirari Realm.
One day, after who knew how long, a cry echoed across the sky of the Mirari Realm. A golden silhouette soared up and flew through the sky. It was Gao Tian. At this moment, the image on the Champions' Stage Purgatory had a golden light flowing through it. That was the golden light of the Investiture of the Gods. Every time Gao Tian moved, some of that golden light was consumed. That was the foundation that allowed Gao Tian to move.
There was also another foundation: consciousness. That consciousness came from Ming Yan.
Lu Yin had tried countless times. He had hoped to pull consciousness from the Investiture of the Gods and place it within Gao Tian's image in order to summon a champion, but that consciousness was completely unable to act on its own. Or rather, Lu Yin could not make the consciousness act on its own. Ming Yan had to control it herself.
