The Mind Manor had originally been an attempt to help Ming Yan become an absolute means for human civilization. To accomplish this, Lu Yin had even stripped away the power of his Word Manifestation to help complete Ming Yan.
She had also always helped Lu Yin when it came to the Mind Manor.
Once one’s consciousness grew powerful enough, it could become an absolute means. However, before this absolute means was completed, it had already found another use.
Ming Yan could use the consciousness in Mind Manor to control Gao Tian's image independently of Lu Yin. The karma connecting the Champions' Stage Purgatory to the Investiture of the Gods bestowed the champion with a soul while the image on the Champions' Stage Purgatory served as a body. Only with all three together could Gao Tian be summoned as a champion.
This was the new, transformed power that had been born from Lu Yin’s breakthrough to the Immortal realm. It originated from the merging of his Investiture of the Gods and Champions' Stage on top of his Karmic Dao as the framework.
The Investiture of the Gods bestowed the soul, the Champions' Stage provided the body, karma served as the binding thread, and consciousness awakened the spirit. All of this was needed in order to summon Gao Tian as a champion.
Ming Yan stood beside Lu Yin, a beautiful smile on her face. She controlled the golden figure of Gao Tian as it continuously flew about. "Brother Lu, Gao Tian really is powerful. It gives me the feeling that it can do anything."
Lu Yin was also quite excited. "Yes. After all, it was a three-law Immortal. However, this champion doesn’t have that same level of power."
No matter how miraculous the Karmic Dao and his innate gift might be, they could not summon forth Gao Tian's peak strength since the Plume Immortal had been anointed after it had been weakened. Even when Gao Tian had first attacked their human civilization, it had already fallen from its peak.
The champion that could be summoned only possessed the power that Gao Tian had wielded when it had entered the Champions' Stage Purgatory and been used to increase Lu Yin’s karma.
At that time, Gao Tian's strength had been less than a third of its peak.
Even so, Lu Yin was quite satisfied. After all, this was Gao Tian. Even a third of its combat strength was enough for this champion to be an incredible helper. It would not be a problem to deal with a two-law Immortal with solely this champion.
Ming Yan was elated. Even after she had gained control of the Mind Manor within the Investiture of the Gods, she had never felt that she could truly help Lu Yin. But at this moment, she felt just that. She was the one who could control Gao Tian's silhouette. After all, the consciousness of the Mind Manor did not allow the champion to act on its own.
Throughout all of Lu Yin's fights, throughout all of the wars that he had participated in, she had wanted to join him countless times, but in the end, she had only ever been able to helplessly watch on. She had finally gained the ability to fight at his side with him.
On the Champions' Stage Purgatory, the golden light that filled Gao Tian's image continued to fade. After being summoned as a champion, Gao Tian’s figure could not last for very long. The golden light of the Investiture of the Gods was a time limit.
Lu Yin still needed to find a way to strengthen that innate gift.
He also hoped to recreate the supreme heights of the Lu family, where one person was considered as strong as a nation, and where one person could stand above all.
After putting the innate gift away, Ming Yan still seemed somewhat dissatisfied. Her breathtakingly beautiful face still carried a hint of the golden light, the traces shimmering on her fair skin and giving her an alluring luster.
"Brother Lu, I can help you from now on."
Lu Yin directed a gentle look her way. He reached out and stroked her cheek. "Yan'er, let me help you recover."
Ming Yan was startled. "Recover?"
"Yes. You’ve been in Mind Manor for so long. It’s time for you to recover."
Ming Yan grew puzzled. "If I recover, what will happen to your Gao Tian champion?"
Lu Yin smiled. "The consciousness was mine to begin with, so naturally, I will control it. Don’t forget that all the consciousness in the Mind Manor comes from me."
Ming Yan met Lu Yin's eyes and stared at him intently. After a moment, she firmly shook her head. "No. I don’t want to recover."
Lu Yin did not understand. "Why not?"
Ming Yan firmly stated, "Ordinary battles won’t require you to use Gao Tian at all, but if you do have to summon that champion, then it means that you’ll be facing a powerful enemy. If you have to fight such an enemy while simultaneously controlling Gao Tian, you could be easily distracted. I am different. I can devote myself solely to controlling Gao Tian and helping you."
Lu Yin shook his head. "You’re underestimating me. Besides, my karmic chain is so close to completion that I’m not even able to fight."
Ming Yan glanced at Lu Yin's wrist. "In that case, do you have time to cultivate your consciousness?"
Lu Yin's eyes quivered.
"Brother Lu, you once said that you hoped for me to become another world of yours." Ming Yan stared at Lu Yin as if in a trance. "If things were really as simple as you suggest and you can control the Mind Manor, why did you need me back then? While my cultivation is not high, I am not ignorant. Besides, after cultivating in the Mind Manor all these years, I’ve improved a great deal. I am your second source of consciousness. Without me, the Mind Manor will be gone. Without the Mind Manor, you will need to find another way to infuse consciousness into Gao Tian, won’t you?"
Lu Yin did not argue, as she was correct. The reason why he was able to grant consciousness to Gao Tian was because of the Mind Manor. It used the Investiture of the Gods as its foundation, and it was only possible to grant consciousness through his Investiture of the Gods. From the very beginning, the Mind Manor had been another part of his Karmic Dao. However, if Ming Yan recovered, it would not be possible to preserve the Mind Manor. He would lose his second source of consciousness, and the Mind Manor would have to be stripped away. He would have to control his consciousness on his own. While all of his consciousness would return to him, it would no longer be a part of his Karmic Dao. With that, he would naturally be unable to grant consciousness to his champions.
He would have to find another way to summon Gao Tian. He might be able to find an alternate means, or he might never succeed.
Some people's innate gifts were very powerful, but they were unable to use them. This was one way such a situation could occur. Awakening an innate gift did not mean that a person was always able to use it.
Ming Yan reached out and stroked Lu Yin's face just as he had done to her. Although she was just a body of consciousness and unable to truly touch him, she still gave him a hint of coolness, as well as a lingering warmth.
"Brother Lu, I am very happy being with you—truly, very happy. Do you know why I’ve never asked about the wars you’ve taken part in again and again? Why I’ve never worried that you might be injured or die?
"It’s because I am one with you. If you die, I will die as well. There is nothing for me to worry about. Wherever you go, I will be with you. No one else can give me this peace of mind."
Lu Yin looked deeply at Ming Yan and then nodded. "I understand."
Ming Yan smiled happily. "Then I will go back, Brother Lu."
With that, her consciousness returned to Investiture of the Gods, and she disappeared.
The Mirari Realm grew peaceful again. In the distance, on the River of Aeons, Zhao Ran rowed her small boat over while looking at Lu Yin with a strange gaze.
"What’s with that expression?" Lu Yin was speechless.
Zhao Ran silently looked at him for a moment. "Ming Yan, Long Xi."
The corner of Lu Yin's mouth twitched. "Go row your boat."
He then turned to leave.
"I want to pay my respects to Greater Sancte Blood Tower!" Zhao Ran called out.
Lu Yin stopped. He turned to look at her and nodded. "I’ll lead the way."
Although Zhao Ran had once found Blood Tower rather annoying, over time, they had become friends. Since he had fallen in battle, Zhao Ran naturally wanted to pay her respects as well.
She did not have many friends.
After helping Zhao Ran pay her respects to Blood Tower, Lu Yin went into seclusion on the mountain behind the Heavens Sect.
First, he took out the fragments of his broken scythe, Aberrant.
Looking at the broken weapon in his hand, Lu Yin felt regretful. This weapon had been rendered completely useless, and the Activeness formerly contained within it had also been lost. Even if he reforged the weapon, he would not be able to use it to trigger a Stillness transformation.
Having lost that vast Activeness, from now on, his sources of Stillness would only be what he had already mastered himself or what he could obtain from the Death Megaverse.
He shook his head and put away the fragments. After his Immortal breakthrough, many of his powers had explosively increased in strength, and everyone was curious what cosmic law he had comprehended.
The cosmic law was very simple: the universe as self.
Those few simple words came from his inner universe. Lu Yin had created star after star in his inner universe. There was life, astral phenomena, laws, karma, time, space, everything. It was a universe.
Thus, when he broke into the Immortal realm, the first cosmic law that he had comprehended was that the universe is itself. The inspiration for this law partly came from the Revelation Sect.
The Revelation Sect believed that the universe was a living entity, and based on this understanding, Lu Yin had comprehended a cosmic law.
The growth of his various powers was not truly the powers growing themselves. The truth was that his breakthrough was no different from anyone else's, and all of his powers still needed his cultivation to be improved or strengthened. The reason why his Willforce, physical strength, sight power, and other powers drastically spiked in power was because they existed within his unseen world.
His unseen world was the universe, and because that universe was himself, no one could avoid this unseen world of his, nor could anyone break it. Facing Lu Yin was no different from facing the Aevum Inch. Since they existed within the Aevum Inch, escape was naturally impossible.
As he continued cultivating and strengthening his Willforce, physical strength, and other abilities, the amplification that he received from his unseen world would become even greater. This cosmic law was filled with the inclusiveness of the infinite. Lu Yin had only just broken through, so he still needed to fully comprehend his cosmic law and cultivate it.
Although the Immortal realm was the endpoint of cultivation, it still held many possibilities. One could resonate with two cosmic laws, three, and so on. There were also beings who had mastered two unseen worlds, others like Ni Bieluo had recorded three Immortal beings, and yet more possibilities.
In truth, only after stepping into Immortality could one see clearly that the possibilities founded on this realm remained extremely numerous.
Lu Yin's expression turned contemplative. If he had been able to thoroughly study his Investiture of the Gods and Champions' Stage Purgatory right after his breakthrough, he might not have struggled so much against Gao Tian.
No, that was also not right. He had to first imprison Gao Tian within the Champions' Stage Purgatory before he could summon the Plume Immortal as a champion. Since it had to be subdued, it naturally had to first be defeated. There would have been no way to summon it as a champion.
After thinking about it, Lu Yin laughed in spite of himself. This move would prove to be the greatest surprise for his next enemy. They would not end up facing him alone.
This manner of improving his combat ability was actually rather similar to Ni Bieluo's method of recording of Immortal beings. If Lu Yin could summon more champions than just Gao Tian, his combat strength would multiply.
However, that all depended on him being able to increase the duration that the Investiture of the Gods' golden light could last for.
He still needed to cultivate.
After breaking through to the Immortal realm, there was another change that he discovered: he was once again able to see that wondrous scene.
It was the wondrous scene he had only managed to see after absorbing the motes of green light from the Plume Immortals' great tree.
What exactly was this Aevum Inch in his visions?
The Trio’s affairs gradually began to settle down. What came next would be the time for his Stillness clone to set out.
Before that... Lu Yin casually waved a hand, and many fragments of black crystal appeared around him on the mountain. These crystal fragments were the Stillness that Death's Dominion had condensed to seal Lu Yin within the last of the giant skeleton’s Stillness. That crystal had eventually shattered, and those fragments had scattered throughout the Aevum Inch.
Lu Yin had gathered them for a very simple purpose: these black crystals were formed from Stillness, and he would not waste them.
His skeleton clone was released from a Zenith Mountain. Lu Yin grabbed a fragment of black crystal, using a bit of force to crush it.
With a bang, the crystal shattered, and Stillness was released. Lu Yin had sealed his surroundings in advance, to prevent the power from dispersing.
He proceeded to promptly crush more and more fragments. When the Stillness was quite dense, his consciousness entered his skeleton clone.
Instantly, an indescribable sense of disparity appeared that left him feeling very uncomfortable.
His clone was simply too weak. If it was against an opponent like Death's Dominion, it would be smashed to bits with a single slap.
The contrast between the skeleton and Lu Yin's true strength was far too drastic.
