Lu Yin glanced at his true body, and through his clone, he experienced a terror so oppressive that even breathing became a struggle. Could this be what others felt when facing his true body? It was terrifyingly powerful.
Black specks appeared across the white bones of his clone. Those specks were the Cosmic Art, and they each began to absorb the Stillness.
The moment the black crystal was shattered, most of the Stillness had leaked out, but an astonishing amount still lingered within the fragments. This was the final bit of Stillness that Death's Dominion had used. Logically, it should have been enough to use another Grand Death Shift. One could imagine just how much Stillness the skeleton clone was absorbing at this moment.
In terms of Stillness alone, Lu Yin’s clone absolutely surpassed any skeleton under Withered Requiem.
Once he was finished, his mind returned to his true body. Lu Yin continued crushing the black crystal fragments and then had his clone absorb the Stillness that was released.
As he transferred his consciousness back and forth, he gradually adapted to the disparity in power.
By the time the Stillness was completely absorbed, two years had passed. At this moment, the black specks that were the Cosmic Art on the skeleton clone had gained a far deeper color than before, making the entire skeleton look much dimmer and grayer.
This would definitely cause Withered Requiem to notice Lu Yin’s clone.
He thought for a moment and then retracted the black specks back into the bones. Naturally, this was not something that the clone could do on its own, but Lu Yin’s true body was different.
He used the power of his true body to press the Stillness downwards, forcing the specks of Stillness to continuously seep inward without damaging the bones.
Before long, the clone returned to its normal appearance, regaining its previous dull, ashen-white color. At the very least, it would not be easily seen through.
Just in case, he intended to use the skeleton clone to continue testing new methods of applying Stillness.
He was suddenly reminded of Thousand Machinations. That bear might have a way. Lu Yin’s clone still had an invitation from Thousand Machinations.
After absorbing all the Stillness, this clone now had the qualifications to confront his true body before his Immortal breakthrough. The biggest difference was that the clone did not have as many methods.
Initially, the clone had already been capable of dealing with ordinary Immortals, but now, it had gained the power to fight against Immortals who had experienced direct breakthroughs. The skeleton clone was absolutely able to face off against someone like Lan Meng.
Lu Yin's true body circled his clone. This white skeleton could merge back into his true body, which would cause his true body to experience a surge of Stillness, adding another method to his repertoire. However, doing so would also apply the restrictions of his karmic chain to it, which would render the clone meaningless.
If this clone could break through to the Immortal realm... Thinking of this, Lu Yin's expression grew heated. That was not impossible.
Before breaking through to the Immortal realm, he had created clones with different powers with this plan in mind, despite feeling that it was a bit of a fantasy.
He certainly had more clones than just this skeleton that possessed Stillness.
All along, Lu Yin had walked a path that differed from ordinary people, and if his own breakthrough to the Immortal realm had been similarly extraordinary, he absolutely would not have been able to do this.
It was time to go to Joy City.
He wondered how the war between the Abyss and Void Mountain had gone.
Leaving the Tianyuan, Lu Yin teleported repeatedly in the direction of Void Mountain and Joy City. He eventually stopped and raised a hand, bringing out his die.
His innate gift had not changed. Lu Yin had once believed that he might be able to control his die rolls after his breakthrough to the Immortal realm, but it seemed that he had been overthinking things. It was also possible that he had been going in the wrong direction.
The die itself was a mirebound artifact, while the six innate gifts came from his six elder brothers and sisters. Logically speaking, since the die was a mirebound artifact, it should be possible to control it, provided that he discovered the correct method of doing so. Could it be that the way to use the die was simply to roll it?
Rolling the die relied on luck. Perhaps in the future, if he could see into fate, he might be able to control the die.
One thing of note was how, after rolling the die five times in a row, his head had previously ached terribly to the point where he could not endure the pain. That had changed. While he was in seclusion and having his skeleton clone devour Stillness, he had tried rolling the die. He had learned that, even after rolling the die more than five times in a row, he did not feel any need to rest. In fact, he had rolled the die about thirty times in a row without any pain appearing.
The limitation seemed to have vanished entirely.
That was likely because one’s mind came from life itself. Given that the essence of his life had been transformed, his mind had naturally changed as well.
Thinking of this, he grabbed the skeleton clone with one hand and gathered the power of Stillness. While doing so, he tapped the die with a finger and watched it spin and then slow to a stop. One pip: Pilfer. What fell out was... A teacup? Tea?
Lu Yin grabbed it. His hand certainly did hold a teacup. Moreover, it was an ancient design with a rough, rugged feeling. The only thing of note was that it was especially large. It was even bigger than a washbasin, and yet it was unquestionably a teacup. There was even tea within it, still steaming hot.
Lu Yin stared blankly at it. How could this have appeared?
The die's Pilfer ability randomly took something from a cosmic ring. This roll had been rather useful in the Tianyuan, but once he left that megaverse, he had no longer been able to obtain anything useful. It was only able to acquire things from cosmic rings in whichever megaverse he was currently in.
Who would put brewed tea inside their cosmic ring? Could it be a storage object that was similar to the Zenith Mountains? If it allowed living creatures to enter, then could some living being have been brewing tea within a cosmic ring?
Lu Yin stared at the teacup. After thinking for a moment, he simply discarded it and continued rolling his die. He had already formed a suspicion; perhaps the die's function had not changed, but its effects had.
The die slowly spun. Three pips: Enhance. It could raise the quality of any material. At the moment, he had nothing that he needed to Enhance. He urgently wanted to verify whether his suspicion was correct.
He continued rolling the die.
Four pips: Timestop. He entered the Timestop Space and looked around. Strange, nothing’s changed.
The minimum amount of time was still three days, as was the energy required to increase the number of days. Timestop had not changed, so one pip, Pilfer, should not have changed either.
Again.
The die slowly stopped spinning. One pip: Pilfer. A piece of metal fell out, and it shattered when he squeezed it. He could not tell what it was. Again.
Lu Yin rolled his die again and again and again and again, watching many useless things fall out whenever Pilfer was rolled. He was never able to verify his suspicions. Only after who knew how many rolls did a piece of roasted meat fall out. Moreover, it was a piece of meat with a bite taken out of it. Lu Yin then became certain that the effect of his die had changed.
This bit of roasted meat was still hot and had clearly just been bitten. Who would be bored enough to put such a thing in a cosmic ring? Coincidences were certainly possible, but when combined with the tea that had appeared earlier, as well as the fact that he was not currently in any megaverse at all and was a vast distance away from the Trio, this basically confirmed that Pilfer could now obtain not only things from within cosmic rings, but also objects that were outside of them.
For example, there was the half-drunk tea and the roasted meat that had been half-eaten. Other objects that were outside of cosmic rings should also be possible.
Lu Yin smiled. Now this was interesting. Ever since leaving the Tianyuan, as his cultivation gradually improved, the various rolls of his die had become increasingly useless. Even his Investiture of the Gods and Champions' Stage had only remained useful because of the transformations induced by his Karmic Dao. Without that, they would have been rendered useless as well.
The earlier an innate gift was awakened, the more likely it would eventually hold one back. However, if an innate gift could be transformed, the help that it could offer should be no less than when one first awakened it.
Lu Yin did not know how large Pilfer’s range for snatching objects was, but as long as the possibility existed, the day would come when he would obtain something useful. Moreover, it was another way to gain knowledge of the Aevum Inch.
Even Immortals could not see the Aevum Inch clearly. The range of his die's Pilfer ability would very likely bring Lu Yin objects that he could otherwise never come into contact with.
This was only Pilfer, the ability attached to the die's face with one pip. It was possible that the die's other abilities had changed as well. He needed to study all of them.
However, for the time being, he needed to gain a clear understanding of what had happened during the war between Joy City and Void Mountain.
He pointed a finger and rolled the die again.
Just the fact that he no longer needed to rest for ten days after rolling the die five times in a row was wonderful. It granted Lu Yin a sense of complete freedom and relaxation, as though his restrictions had vanished.
He could keep rolling the die; it felt wonderful.
However everything had a limit. He simply had not yet reached the die’s new limit.
After more than ten more rolls, the die finally showed six pips: Possession. Lu Yin's consciousness entered the strange dark space, and he proceeded to search for orbs of light.
He was eager to discover how Possession had transformed, but after searching around, he was unable to find any lights. It seemed that Possession had not changed. It was not easy to find skeletons from Joy City.
Again.
Lu Yin continued rolling his die. After several more attempts, he rolled Possession again, and he resumed his earlier search.
His luck was not very good, so he kept going.
Given that there was no need to rest, he continuously rolled the die. Several dozen attempts occurred quickly, and he rolled Possession again. Still, there was nothing. Again.
Finally, Lu Yin saw a ball of light in the dark space. It was a light that had appeared when he used Stillness to roll the die, so he hurried over to merge with it.
Opening his eyes, he found that his surroundings were very quiet. There were only shattered white bones scattered everywhere, as well as the corpses of some green, seaweed-like creatures. Many of them were floating along the surface of a river.
Memories then started to appear, and Lu Yin saw what had happened during the war between Joy City and Void Mountain. Void Mountain had been quite lacking when compared to Joy City. Aside from You Che, there had basically been no experts present. However, the war had still dragged on for a very long time and had only ended about half a year ago. All of that was solely because of You Che.
He was a true powerhouse, and he had repeatedly dragged out the war, even leaving Joy City unable to advance even an inch for some time.
Even Withered Requiem had not been able to suppress You Che.
The skeleton that Lu Yin had Possessed had not seen the battle between Withered Requiem and You Che, but it had certainly felt the terror of the shockwaves from that battle.
That had lasted until the war ended about half a year ago, when You Che had died.
Lu Yin was shocked. That was right, You Che was dead.
On the battlefield between Void Mountain and Joy City, before the eyes of countless skeletons, You Che had died in battle. His body had been torn apart, and Stillness had filled the cosmos, blasting the corpse into powder. He could not have been any more dead.
Additionally, the one who had killed You Che was not Withered Requiem. Other Immortals had participated in the battle, though the skeleton that Lu Yin Possessed did not know who they were. However, all of the skeletons were certain that another Abyss had joined the battle. Only through two Abysses joining hands could victory have been won.
Lu Yin’s first thought was of the skeleton bear, the one that had given his skeleton clone an invitation to Thousand Machinations and who was able to suppress even the Seven-Treasure Anuras’ Old Six.
That was a Seven-Treasure Anura, all of whom possessed vile personalities. If someone was not overwhelmingly powerful, how else could they suppress one of those toads? Not only that, but it was also Old Six, a Seven-Treasure Anura whose talent had been verified by Ancestor Shan to be the greatest throughout the toads’ entire history.
You Che's death was not something that Lu Yin had ever expected. After You Che died, a gate had opened, and Obscura’s White had appeared. As for White’s specific form, the skeleton had not been able to see that either. All it knew was that, shortly after that, Withered Requiem had circled Void Mountain once and then left with Joy City.
Memories continued to surge in, and Lu Yin observed the memories of the war. But of all the memories, the only thing of true value to him was the fact that You Che had died during the war.
Far away, it could be seen that a corner of the castle had been shattered.
Clamorous music erupted, and Withered Requiem's familiar singing rang out. Waves of sound from the Death Band’s playing pressed down layer after layer.
Outside of the castle, scattered skeletons roamed about. This war had sharply reduced the number of skeletons that existed on the outskirts of Joy City.
If the previous Grand Death Shift had not brought any experts from other Abysses to Joy City, it was possible that there would be no skeletons left at all.
Lu Yin stared off into the distance and saw Zhou sitting on a mountain peak. Zhou was not dead. Their body was just even more severely damaged, and on their shoulder, Fishbone could be seen.
They should be searching for him, or they might have confirmed that he was dead.
There was no need to hurry back to Joy City for the time being.
