Without a single second of warning, the massive holographic projection field at the front of the room ignited with horrifying intensity.

PCH!

There was no studio logo and there was no cinematic opening music.

Floating in the center of the pitch-black void was a colossal realistic severed human eye roughly the size of a minivan.

The eye was milky-white, laced with pulsing blackened veins that writhed beneath the cornea like parasitic worms.

Thick, viscous, dark-crimson blood oozed continuously from the torn, jagged optic nerve behind it, splashing against an invisible floor with sickening wet splatter sounds that resonated through the surround-sound speakers directly behind their ears.

Slowly... agonizingly... the massive blood-soaked pupil twisted.

It locked its unblinking, dead, rotting gaze directly onto the three people sitting on the velvet couch.

A high-pitched, agonizing chorus of distorted human screams tore through the theater’s spatial speakers, accompanied by the wet rhythmic sound of bones crunching in the dark.

The room’s temperature plummeted ten degrees in an instant.

Harper’s entire body went rigid as a board. Her violet eyes widened in pure horror with her breath hitching in her throat as she buried her face directly into Silas’s left bicep, trembling violently.

On the right side, Seraphina’s noble poise completely shattered into dust.

She let out a tiny, terrified shriek, frantically throwing both of her arms around Silas’s right arm and burying her face into his chest with her fingernails digging through the fabric of his shadow-silk shirt.

Even Reginald, sitting fifty feet away in the darkness, subtly gripped the armrests of his leather chair, his jaw tightening as his assassin instincts flared at the demonic feeling from the projection.

Silas sat entirely upright in the center of the couch, holding two trembling high-tier Lords against his ribs.

Across the bleeding screen, blood-dripping obsidian letters slowly materialized beneath the rotting eye, spelling out the title of the movie.

[CHRONICLES OF ROT (1)]

=====================================================

Silas blinked, staring at the screen as a slow skeptical breath escaped his nose.

"Come on," Silas muttered under his breath, shaking his head at the dramatic opening. "It’s just spatial CGI and sound design too... It can’t possibly be that scary, right?"

...Unfortunately for Silas Graves, he was very... very wrong.

...

The heavy soundproofed doors of Suite Primus slid open with a soft, mechanical hiss that sounded eerily like the dying breath of the grotesque abyssal entity they had just spent two agonizing hours watching on the massive holographic projection field.

Four people stepped out into the plush, dimly lit corridor of The Astraea Imperial Holo-Cinema.

Every single one of them was as pale as a freshly bleached sheet.

Silas walked in the center, his rugged jaw set in a rigid traumatized line however he wasn’t walking alone... he was practically carrying an entire vanguard unit.

Clinging desperately to his left bicep with a white-knuckled grip that threatened to snap his ulna was Harper Whitmore.

The fierce, usually unhinged Lightning Lord had her eyes darting frantically to every shadow, jumping half a foot in the air every time a carpet seam shifted under her boots.

Her purple hair was disheveled, and she looked thoroughly haunted with her mind still replaying the scene where the multi-jointed corpse-crawler had crawled backward out of a dimensional rift to harvest its victims’ spinal cords.

’I hope something like that abomination never makes way to my territory...’

On his right, Seraphina Bloom was plastered against his ribs with equal terrified desperation.

The proud untouchable heiress of House Bloom had completely forgotten all notions of aristocratic aloofness.

Her manicured fingers were bunched tightly into the enchanted fabric of Silas’s shirt, her crimson eyes wide and trembling as she repeatedly checked the ceiling corners for hidden fleshy tentacles.

For an elite noble who had grown up in sterile, guarded palaces and fought monsters with predictable attack patterns in the Sovereign Realm, being subjected to raw psychological body horror was a foreign brain-breaking experience.

Bringing up the rear was Reginald.

The veteran butler, a man who had slit throats in ancestral clan wars without blinking, was sweating profusely beneath his starched collar.

His hands, clasped behind his back, were visibly twitching and his sharp eyes scanning the emergency exit signs with paranoid calculations.

Silas took a deep, shuddering breath, shaking his head slowly as they reached the grand staircase leading down to the lobby.

"I am never," Silas stated, his voice sounding very flat and hollow. "watching a horror movie again for the rest of my life."

"Agreed," Harper squeaked instantly, her voice cracking into a pathetic high-pitched tone as she buried her face deeper into his sleeve. "Burn the film reel... Cast the studio director into the Abyss. If I see another severed eyeball floating in the dark, I’m discharging a hundred thousand volts right toward it."

"It was... an uncultured and profoundly barbaric abomination," Seraphina stammered, her teeth faintly chattering as she clutched Silas’s arm tighter. "There was no narrative integrity! The protagonist did not even deploy a spatial barrier before the entity severed her limbs! It was pure spiritual terrorism!"

"It was effective cinema, Lady Seraphina," Reginald rasped from behind them, his voice rougher than usual as he loosened his silk cravat. "Though I must recommend that House Bloom’s intelligence division never permits such demonic visual archives within our domestic perimeter..."

They descended the marble steps into the grand reception hall.

Behind the golden counter, the receptionist... the young woman with the sharp silver uniform looked up as they approached.

Seeing the towering Lord, the two trembling high-tier women hanging off him like frightened koalas, and the sweating butler trailing behind, the receptionist’s lips curved into an amused and almost sadistic grin.

"Welcome back, esteemed guests," the receptionist greeted them with overly cheerful warmth. "Did Suite Primus’s arrays deliver a satisfactory experience? How did you find The Chronicles of Rot?"

Silas paused in front of the desk, looking the woman dead in the eye.

"The horror," Silas said with his eye twitching, "was a bit too good."

The receptionist’s grin widened by several millimeters, her eyes practically sparkling with malicious professional relish.

"We pride ourselves on immersion, Lord Graves," she beamed, taking immense pleasure in their collective suffering. "The psychological trauma protocols were updated just last week... Lady Whitmore’s account has already cleared the full VIP ledger. Please, do visit us again soon for the midnight director’s cut!"

"Not in this lifetime," Harper muttered under her breath, hastily dragging Silas toward the double doors.

The three of them practically bolted through the exit, desperate for the cool grounding breeze of the evening air.

Outside, the cool air did little to settle their racing pulses, but the familiar hum of traffic along the upper boulevards provided some much-needed reality.

They climbed into Harper’s custom midnight-purple sports coupe.

Silas sank into the front passenger seat, letting out a long heavy exhale as the heated leather supported his exhausted back.

Seraphina gracefully slid into the rear, sitting closer to the center console than usual, still looking slightly jumpy whenever a streetlamp flickered.

Harper pushed the ignition rune, and the twin-turbo engine rumbled to life with a steady reassuring purr.

She smoothly steered the vehicle out of the valet bay and merged onto the highway.

For several minutes, the cabin was dead silent as the trauma of the movie hung over them like a thick fog.

Silas turned his head, eyeing Harper with deep exhausted suspicion.

"Alright," Silas began, his voice cautious. "Where are we going next?"

Harper didn’t answer immediately as she kept her eyes on the neon-lit road ahead, tapping her fingers against the leather steering wheel.

Surprisingly, Seraphina didn’t nag or demand a briefing this time.

The crimson noble was simply leaning back against the plush leather, breathing slowly to re-center her ancestral flame aura.

Harper exhaled softly, rolling her shoulders as the last remnants of movie-induced terror finally began to fade.

A bright conspiratorial gleam sparked in her violet eyes.

According to the sacred texts of the LordTube Ultimate Date Guide, Phase Three was meant to break emotional barriers through shared terror, but Phase Four was the crucial setup... the energy-reset phase designed to build camaraderie, playful competition, and physical teamwork before the grand finale of Phase Five.

"Phase Four," Harper announced, her usual radiant grin breaking across her face, "is pure, unadulterated fun. We are going for games!"

Silas blinked. "Games? Like an arcade?"

"Yep! An arcade!"

Silas paused, his tense shoulders actually relaxing a fraction.

’An arcade?’ Silas thought, a wave of genuine nostalgia washing over him. ’That actually isn’t bad at all.’

Back in his past life on Earth, he had spent countless weekends in dingy, neon-lit arcades, hammering away at rhythm machines, air hockey tables, and light-gun shooters with his friends.

Even in this world, during his early years in Sector 4, he used to take Lia to the run-down coin-op centers in the lower districts to play claw machines whenever he scraped together a few spare copper tokens.

Arcades were simple.

They were loud, straightforward, and... most importantly cheap. You bought a cup of plastic tokens, played some games, and walked away.

It couldn’t possibly be that expensi—

"It’s The Grand Nexus Imperial Cyber-Pavilion," Harper added casually, adjusting her rearview mirror with a smug smirk. "The premier luxury entertainment arcade in the Diamond Sector!"

The brief color that had returned to Silas’s face instantly vanished. Silas stared at her with his eye twitching violently.

’When the hell did arcades become luxury?!’ Silas screamed internally, clutching his forehead. ’It’s an arcade! You put tokens into a box and press buttons! How do you make an arcade cost millions of credits?! Are the joysticks forged from ancient dragon bone?!’

Ten minutes later, the coupe went down a grand illuminated spiral ramp and pulled into the sprawling plaza of The Grand Nexus.

Silas stepped out of the vehicle, his boots hitting the polished glowing pavement.

He looked around in genuine surprise.

Unlike the hyper-exclusive Haute Couture Sanctuary or the stuffy isolated sky-lounge of The Celestial Zenith, the plaza here was alive with vibrant energy.

Neon holographic displays towered fifty feet into the air, projecting vibrant game characters, glowing scoreboards, and animated retro sprites.

The crowd was a fascinating eclectic mix.

There were high-society corporate heirs in tailored silk jackets, but there were also off-duty mercenaries in rugged combat pants, academy students in bright uniforms, and regular citizens from the mid-tier neighborhoods enjoying the evening.

The sound of synthetic synth-wave music, laughing crowds, and the mechanical clatter of prize dispensers filled the crisp evening air.

Harper parked the sports coupe in a designated VIP bay, while Reginald stepped out of the car.

Silas turned toward the elderly butler, expecting the man to follow them to the entrance as usual.

However, Reginald had come to an abrupt rigid halt ten paces from the entrance.

The veteran butler was staring at the flashing neon signs with a face that was almost as pale as it had been in the cinema.

A cold sweat glistened on his forehead as his fingers twitching against the seams of his trousers.

"My Lady," Reginald spoke, his voice unusually strained as he bowed stiffly. "I... I respectfully request permission to remain stationed outside with the vehicle for this portion of the engagement."

Silas raised an eyebrow, looking at the older man in confusion.

’Is this terrifying man afraid of an arcade?’

In reality, Reginald’s mind was flashing back thirty-five years to an undercover reconnaissance mission inside a lower-tier cyber-den, where he had been trapped inside a dance-simulation machine for four consecutive hours by an eccentric enemy informant.

The rhythmic flashing lights, the electronic chime sequences, and the catastrophic muscle fatigue had left scars on his warrior psyche that no healing potion could ever mend.

’I cannot survey this environment...’ Reginald thought in silent dignified horror. ’The chaos will compromise my operational discipline.’

Seraphina glanced at her butler, entirely unbothered. "You may remain at the perimeter, Reginald."

"Thank you, Lady Seraphina," Reginald exhaled, visibly slumping with profound relief as he retreated to the sanctuary of the limousine.

"Come on!" Harper cheered, grabbing Silas’s hand with an energetic tug. "Let’s go win some prizes!"

They stepped through the grand archway of The Grand Nexus, and the scale of the facility unfolded before them.

The pavilion spanned four colossal, tiered floors beneath a domed glass ceiling that projected an artificial shifting starry nebula.

Thousands of state-of-the-art gaming stations, battle arenas, holographic rhythm stages, and immersive simulation pods stretched out across the glowing floors.
