The world of Nightwalkers had been thrown into turmoil after news of what had occurred near the Fortis Bridge of Rifts spread across the world.

The footage had captured everything with undeniable clarity. The very beings of Nightmare, creatures that had long been either the source of dread or the driving force behind the determination of thousands of Nightwalkers, had suddenly knelt before a human.

Within half a day, the video had already been shared more than a million times.

There was nothing in the records of history, not even the oldest surviving accounts, that spoke of a Sentinel bowing before anyone. Their sole purpose had always been to guard the Temple, striking down anything that dared venture too close.

And yet...

"A twenty-two-year-old who awakened barely two months ago simply walked into the Temple as though he owned the place?"

The Joint Secretary of Guhang spoke with undisguised ridicule.

The conference room was filled with some of the most powerful figures in the country.

The Defense Minister.

The Commander of the nation’s most elite battalion.

The Captain of Team Alpha.

The Joint Secretary.

And, of course, the Head of the Surveillance Department.

Among them was also the one person who knew Kyle better than anyone else in the room.

This was an incident capable of changing the world, and it had raised more questions than it answered.

What exactly was Kyle?

Why did the Watchers respect him? Why had they allowed him to enter the Temple? And, perhaps most importantly, why would he willingly step into a place from which no one had ever returned?

"His animosity toward that blond boy. Has anyone found out what happened between them?" the Defense Minister asked, his brows drawn together.

"Ethan Lockhart. Yes, I’m aware of the grudge he held against Kyle," Pascal said. He had conducted a detailed investigation into the history between the two. "Ethan has been involved in several incidents that earned Kyle’s ire. And recently, after receiving reports of his sudden growth, I began to suspect he might be involved with the other side."

Arthur’s expression darkened.

"You mean the Knull? Is he an Abomination?"

"Was."

The youngest person in the room spoke the single word in a grave tone. The silver-haired man, usually known for his easygoing expression, looked unusually serious.

"I can barely believe Kyle has kept that boy alive until now."

"Or perhaps he has something else in mind for an Abomination?" the Joint Secretary added.

The Defense Minister raised a brow.

"What do you mean by that, Carl?"

Carl shrugged, his expression remaining thoughtful.

"As far as I can tell, that man is anything but normal. He willingly entered a Temple that has never allowed anyone to return. Who’s to say he isn’t connected to the other side as well?"

Silence fell over the room.

For the first time, the possibility lingered among them.

What if Kyle wasn’t merely an anomaly?

What if he was something far more dangerous?

....

It had been a day since the world-shaking news broke.

The Watchers had actually bent their knees before someone.

And that someone was still inside the massive structure.

The Temple remained under heavy guard as always, but now, Nightwalkers from across the region had begun gathering around it for one reason or another. Curiosity alone was enough to draw them here.

Someone had already attempted a raid, hoping to enter the Temple the same way Kyle had.

That hope had been cleaved apart by the blades of the Sentinels.

"I wonder what exactly resides inside," one of the Nightwalkers muttered as he sipped his coffee outside the Temple. "And whether he’ll ever come back out."

"Honestly, I’m more curious about what the structure looks like from the inside," another Nightwalker said. "And what kind of danger is lurking in there."

His gaze drifted toward the knights standing before the Temple.

"But with those things guarding the entrance? There’s no chance."

He sighed, already resigned to his fate and whatever dreams he had once entertained of entering the Temple.

"Have you guys noticed something?"

The only girl in the small group suddenly spoke up, her eyes narrowing in thought.

"We haven’t received many reports of Rifts appearing around the city lately."

Another Nightwalker scoffed.

"It’s been one day, and you’re already coming up with theories, Raha?"

Raha huffed, folding her arms.

"I’m just saying. The drop in their appearance is way too drastic to dismiss as a fluke."

No one agreed with her.

But no one disagreed either.

The thought lingered among them, uncomfortable enough that none of them wanted to voice it.

Then suddenly...

"Wait! Where are you going?"

A guard’s alarmed cry cut through the conversation.

Everyone turned toward the commotion.

A silver-haired woman was forcing her way through the guards, ignoring their attempts to stop her as she pushed toward the Temple.

"Isn’t it..."

Many gasped and many watched with interest as commotion grew.

"Stop right there!"

Two guards rushed toward her, but she slipped between them before either could get a proper grip. One reached for her shoulder.

She twisted aside.

His hand caught nothing but air.

"Get back!"

Another guard swung his weapon into her path. Veronica ducked beneath it, drove her shoulder into his chest, and sent him stumbling backward.

The crowd erupted in confusion.

"Someone stop her!"

"She’s heading for the Temple!"

More guards poured in from the sides, forming a barricade between her and the massive structure.

Veronica’s eyes hardened.

She didn’t have time for this.

She rushed forward.

A guard grabbed her arm.

Veronica violently tore herself free and slammed her elbow into his chest. Before he could recover, she stepped onto the barricade itself and vaulted over it.

"She’s through!"

"Block the next line!"

The guards scrambled to respond.

But she was too fast for them to be on time.

Veronica landed hard, immediately breaking into a sprint.

Another barrier stood ahead.

She didn’t even hesitate.

With her momentum carrying her forward, she planted one foot against the metal frame and kicked.

CRASH!

The barricade buckled.

A second kick sent it tumbling aside.

Gasps erupted from the Nightwalkers watching from nearby.

"Is she insane?!"

"That’s the Temple!"

Veronica ignored them all.

She pushed through the opening and continued forward, her silver hair whipping behind her as the Temple grew larger with every step.

"Stop!"

The guards gave chase.

But Veronica was already ahead of them.

She reached the final barricade and grabbed its edge.

It barely moved.

Her jaw tightened.

Then she pulled with everything she had.

BANG!

The barricade tore free from its anchoring point and crashed onto the ground.

For a brief moment, everything went silent.

Veronica stood beyond the fallen barrier, breathing heavily.

The Temple loomed before her.

And somewhere beyond those enormous doors was Kyle.

She took another step.

"Wait!"

One of the guards tried to push past the barricade to stop her, but before he could take another step,

"No!" another guard grabbed him. "She’s already crossed the mark."

At his words, they all turned toward the Sentinels and their glowing eyes.

Silence fell over the crowd as Veronica continued deeper into the domain of danger.

The same woman who had always flinched at the mere mention of these knights was now glaring at them with cold hostility. At this moment, they were nothing more than obstacles standing in her path.

Then a familiar voice came from her side.

"You aren’t dying alone today."

Veronica’s brows rose as she turned left and found Amanda standing beside her.

Veronica snickered. "Couldn’t you have arrived earlier? I had to fight all of them on my own."

Amanda shrugged. "I knew you could handle them pretty well. Now..."

She turned her attention toward the Sentinels.

"Shall we find out just how tough these things are?"

Genesis began to flow through her fists. The warmth that usually lingered in her expression vanished, replaced by an icy focus as she prepared herself for the battle ahead.

Veronica knew Amanda was fully aware of the danger they were facing. Still, if there was one thing that didn’t surprise her was the unwavering determination in her eyes.

Then again, Veronica felt exactly the same.

The two women stepped forward together.

The knights raised their blades once again.

This time, they had no intention of kneeling and letting them pass.

Behind them, the Temple doors remained firmly sealed.

However, just before the two women were about lunge into action, a familiar voice echoed in their ears.

{Go back. I don’t want to see anyone.}

Both Veronica and Amanda glanced at each other at the same time, confirming they both heard his voice.

Amanda called out instantly. "Where are you Kyle? Why are you doing this?"

Veronica added. "Let us see you just once? We are worried for you."

{I am fine as I am. Don’t approach me for the time being. I promise I will return one day.}

Veronica pursed her lips. She didn’t know what happened but Kyle wanted some time alone.

She turned to her left and was surprised to see Amanda sitting on the ground, legs crossed before she muttered. "Take as many days as you want but I won’t be leaving this place until you let me see you. And you know how stubborn I could be."

There was no response this time.

Veronica looked at the Sentinels. They were frozen in their places, no longer alarmed.

In the end, she also sat down beside Amanda.

Forget it. They would just wait and see how long he could remain stubborn.
