The final assembly took three weeks, happening slowly, deliberately, piece by proven piece, no reckless late-night sprints this time. She'd learned that lesson properly now, with a permadeath clock ticking behind every decision.

The barrel segments went up first, lowered into place along the mountainside by a dedicated crew of dwarven riggers.

The support struts went in next, their pivoting bases calibrated against the aiming cone, cloud-material cushions fitted at every contact point.

"...It moves," she said, watching fifty meters of steel shift smoothly. "It actually moves."

The pressure-triggered sequential release chambers came next, twelve of them, each calibrated individually.

Then the cloud-material seal, and finally the harpoon rod itself, five meters of Damascus-folded steel, adamantium-tipped.

By the third week's end, the entire assembly stood finished. Gorthruk walked the full length, testing joints, checking mount stability.

"...It is sound," he said finally. "Every joint I've tested holds."

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Arista stood beside him, looking at the whole assembly for the first time as one complete thing.

"...We built this in three weeks," she said quietly.

"You built the pieces over considerably longer," Petrov corrected. "The assembly went fast because every component had already been proven."

Bram studied the weapon for a long, quiet moment, then looked at her directly.

"...Are you ready?"

"...No," she admitted. "But I don't think I'm going to feel ready no matter how long I wait."

"...Let's go find out if this works."

The notification arrived quietly.

[Achievement Unlocked: "Oppenheimer"]"You did not seek to build a weapon. But when the choice was taken from you, you built one capable of reshaping the balance of an entire world."

Arista stared at it for a long, silent moment, the usual reflexive grin simply... not coming.

"...Oh," she said quietly.

Nettle caught the shift in her expression immediately. "What is it?"

Arista turned the panel toward her without a word. Nettle read it, and her own easy confidence faltered too.

"...That's a heavy one," she said finally.

"Yeah." Arista looked back at the finished barrel. "I never wanted this. Every single project, I chased because it was interesting, because it helped someone. This one, the system forced on me."

She sat with that, the achievement window still glowing.

"...That's why I'm taking it apart afterward," she said, quieter now. "I don't think I want to be someone who keeps something like this around. I built it because I had to. I'm ending it the same way, the moment I don't have to anymore."

Nettle reached over, squeezing her shoulder briefly, none of her usual chaotic energy in the gesture.

"...For what it's worth, I don't think one weapon, built once, under duress, to save your own life, makes you someone who wants this. That's not the same thing as being dangerous. That's just being human. Or, well." A faint smile. "Demon. Whatever you technically are at this point."

Arista managed a small, tired laugh.

"...Thanks."

She looked back at the weapon one final time.

"...Okay," she said, steadier now. "Let's go find a hydra."
