Special Base (4th Zone)
Jeremy Night calmed his heart first. He knew that since it was a special mission, it wasn’t going to be easy.
But he knew that the elders weren’t crazy enough to send him on a mission that involved higher-tier beasts.
He thought the mission location was definitely closer to the border area.
He could tell that although the mission wouldn’t be life-threatening, it was going to be difficult. He was now getting the feeling that both Elder Sandra and Elder John wanted him to enter the top 50.
The reason might be the forces in the top three zones. He sighed inwardly and decided to hear it first.
"I would like to hear those details," Jeremy said in a serious tone.
Elder John nodded his head in approval.
"It’s a mapping mission. The higher-ups have decided to expand the wilderness border. We need to record the new terrain details, including the animals and plants found in that place," John said.
Hearing that, Jeremy Night didn’t show any reaction, but he listened to the information calmly.
"Usually, the task is done by the elders. But this time, the border you are going to check is located in the southeastern direction. The land beyond that border is muddy terrain with many dangerous mud holes," John said.
"No corrupted beasts go around that place, including the higher-tier beasts. So, that border is perfect for you. This mission could be done by the other elders and me, but we are busy with other work and no one has time to go," John added.
"Why not the seniors?" Jeremy asked back.
"The third-year students are busy with last-minute preparations. The forces from the top three zones can arrive at any time, while the second-year students are making a last-minute effort to complete their missions," John replied.
Jeremy Night’s eyes flickered with a glint. He figured it out, but he was still shocked inside. It was all about the top three forces. He wanted to get some more information.
"Elder, do you guys really want me to enter the top three zones this time?" Jeremy asked. His tone was doubtful.
John was taken aback. He looked at Jeremy Night deeply.
He understood that Jeremy Night was not in a hurry either. He had thought Jeremy Night would be feeling anxious to prove himself and might want to be noticed by the recruiters badly.
But John understood he was wrong. The young man knew his situation.
He then said, "I’m glad that you are level-headed. But Elder Sandra thinks that you’ve got a good chance."
"You can fight across Tiers. You have slain Tier-5 Beasts while being Tier-3. Now you are closer to Tier-4. You could survive at the hands of a Tier-6 Beast now," John said.
"You have participated in every beast invasion battle, including the last one. You have completed important missions and became the quickest to reach the Top 50 while being a Tier-3 Beast Tamer," he added.
"But I’m still a Tier-3 Beast Tamer, yet to reach Tier-4," Jeremy Night said with hesitation.
"Your profile and experience are good. What the forces in the top three zones require are Beast Tamers who can kill higher corrupted beasts. You can certainly do that," John replied.
Hearing that, Jeremy Night calmed his heart. To be honest, he didn’t expect this turnaround. He had been mentally ready to spend another year or two in the special base.
He recalled the words of Oscar Fletcher. No force would recruit a Tier-3 Beast Tamer from the other zones despite having a good record.
But the elders were confident. They had trust in him, so he decided to be optimistic.
John saw through the hesitation.
He said, "Let me tell you something. Not all the forces from the top three zones are coming. The big forces have already recruited talents from the vast population."
"The forces that are coming are 4th-Grade or 5th-Grade forces. They may have suffered losses on the battlefield. That’s why they need talents from the special base," John added.
A look of understanding dawned on Jeremy Night.
"I heard that the top forces were coming," Jeremy said.
John smiled and said, "For us, they are top forces. Each force has a Tier-9 Beast Tamer in their organisation."
Hearing that, Jeremy Night was taken aback. He understood the significance. If an organisation had a Tier-9 Beast Tamer, it was already a massive deal.
If any organisation had such power here, they could repel Tier-9 Corrupted Beasts without needing help from the Human Alliance.
"Are you ready or not?" John asked.
"I’m ready," Jeremy replied.
"You have just come back from a mission. Take one day off. I will see you tomorrow evening," John said.
Hearing that, Jeremy agreed. He then stood up from his seat and left the room.
After leaving the building, he headed back to the accommodation building. He couldn’t believe that only 4th- and 5th-Grade forces might come, though that could vary.
Only organisations in need of Beast Tamers would come here. After pushing down the thoughts in his mind, he increased his pace towards the accommodation building.
Soon, he reached the building. He came across other members who were having food in the canteen. He then went up to the 5th floor, back to his room.
Creak!
After reaching the room, he opened the door and entered, shutting it behind him. He then looked around the place.
Since it was going to be a day off, he went to the sofa and lay down on it.
Meanwhile,
Elder John reported to Elder Sandra that Jeremy Night was willing to take on the mission. Hearing that, Elder Sandra smiled. She genuinely thought Jeremy Night had a chance.
On the other hand, no other elders knew about the special mission.
If they knew that the special mission supposed to be handled by the elders was given to Jeremy Night, they would definitely be shocked.
They would be even more shocked that the special mission reward might push Jeremy Night back into the Top 50 of the Leaderboard rankings.
While the other elders were busy with their own work, the second- and third-year students were busy as well. They were running missions day and night.
