STRIKER: Independent Beast Tamer

Chapter 1056: Part 2: The Dangerous Mud Hole

Border (Special Base)

Jeremy Night heard Stella. He was comforted by her words. But it didn’t mean that he should give up responsibility.

He had been doing this since day one, ever since he made a contract with her. To be honest, Jeremy knew she was the main reason he had come this far.

Otherwise, he would have stayed comfortably in the 10th Zone.

"Don’t think too much about it. It’s my mission. Either way, I have to do it. It might be my ticket to the top three zones," Jeremy replied in his mind.

Stella was quiet after hearing that. Then she decided to help him complete the mission.

[Okay, I will help you. I can observe the surroundings. I can observe farther than the current limit of your eye power.]

Jeremy heard Stella’s voice. He sighed in relief. He had been worried that she might be adamant. Now that she was going to help him, his worry was swept away.

He then collected his thoughts and looked far ahead. The two deadly mud holes made it impossible to explore the way ahead.

He had to take a detour right now. But before that, he began to collect a few stones in his hand.

Then he walked along the border stretch down a few hundred metres, completely away from the previous area.

He then turned around and looked at the border area. His expression shifted. He held the stones in his hand and threw them far.

Thud!

The stones landed within a hundred metres. He waited there for a couple of seconds. But the ground was solid. There was no tremor whatsoever.

He could walk on the ground, but he still refused to believe it. So he threw a few more stones onto the ground.

Thud!

When the stones landed with a heavy thud, he began to observe the ground using his eye power. His eyes caught the small details.

If there was a tremor, he would be able to see whether the small sand grains were moving or not. But he didn’t see any.

It was a sign that the ground was solid. There was no threat of a mud hole. Jeremy Night calmed his heart.

Stella was observing the situation as well. She didn’t find the presence of any corrupted beasts within 500 metres.

[You can go now. There are no corrupted beasts nearby.]

Jeremy heard Stella’s voice. He gained some confidence. He then started walking ahead. He walked further, covering a couple of hundred metres.

He could tell that the land was solid. The helmet device was on, recording the information. He walked up to the stone where it had landed.

Then he picked up the same stone and threw it ahead in a straight path. The stone landed within a hundred metres. But there was no danger.

Thud!

Seeing that, he once again resumed walking. He had only taken a couple of steps forward.

Crack!

A crack appeared on the ground. It started to expand.

Swoosh!

Upon seeing that, Jeremy Night moved backward right away.

Boom!

A two- to three-metre-deep mud hole appeared all of a sudden. It was a small mud hole compared to the previous one.

Still, the mud hole was deep and dangerous. He was taken aback by the small mud hole. Jeremy Night sat down on the ground.

The daylight was getting low. Soon, it would be nighttime. He thought it would be risky to continue the mission now.

He decided to spend the night in a safe place before continuing the mission again the next morning. He stood up and started going backward.

Now he began to replay the scenes in his mind. He wondered how Elder John could have handed him the mission.

He shook his head. His attention then shifted to Stella.

"Stella, did you find any beasts nearby?" he asked her.

[No, the place is safe.]

She replied in his mind.

Then Jeremy Night asked her to check whether there was a shade tree nearby. Hearing that, Stella began to observe the place.

She understood that Jeremy Night was going to spend the night at the border. She used her consciousness to observe the surroundings.

She soon found a tree area and guided Jeremy Night to the place. Jeremy Night got back into the wilderness. He reached the tree area 15 minutes later.

He then turned off the helmet device and put it away inside the ring.

Now the daylight was gone. It was time to be careful. He didn’t want to attract the attention of other beasts.

He began to use the moonlight to carve out a large hole in the tree. It took him 20 minutes.

Then he was able to complete it. He used dry twigs and leaves to cover the tree hole. He then hid inside the tree hole.

He told Stella to rest. He knew she must have spent some energy observing the surroundings.

Nighttime came.

Stella was steadily absorbing natural energy from the surroundings. Jeremy Night was resting inside the tree, but he was half asleep.

Though Stella was awake, he couldn’t completely fall asleep. He was used to this situation, so he stayed half awake.

Whenever the sounds of corrupted beasts appeared, he would open his eyes to observe the surroundings.

But he saw nothing. He couldn’t spot anything with his eyes. When he paid attention to Stella, he saw that the natural energy formed like a funnel before disappearing into the unknown beast egg.

Seeing that Stella was working hard, his eyes flashed with understanding.

Jeremy Night thought that if he could get the resources after completing the mission, he might help make the hatching process faster.

Time passed.

The night went by without trouble. He woke up early, got out of the tree hole, and landed on the ground.

"Stella, are you awake?" he asked her.

[Yes, I am. You can resume the mission.]

He heard Stella’s voice. Then he began to head toward the border stretch. The one thing he understood was that the border area was huge.

He could not continue the mission indefinitely. He would map a couple of places, then go back to the base. He thought Elder John and Elder Sandra might understand his difficulties.
