The glowing red recording indicator blinked on the screen, counting up second by second.
Anastasia stared straight into the phone’s camera. Her chest rose and fell in measured breaths, forcing down the violent tremble in her limbs.
"Damian," Ana began, her voice carrying a cold, flat cadence. "I left the estate on my own terms. If you want this ended without bloodshed, you have to do exactly as Vivian demands. Sign over the full voting equity of the Stark portfolio to the offshore account, and release the deep-water shipping lanes at the harbor."
She paused, keeping her gaze locked onto the lens, her tone deliberately deadpan.
"Do not send your security team. Let this end quietly, just like how you handled my father’s old warehouse assets."
It was a subtle, deliberate trigger. Ana had never once mentioned her father’s old assets since returning back to his life... it was a coded hint pointing Damian directly to the dockside storage district where her father’s bankrupt shipping lines used to run.
Vivian, however, was sharp and utterly paranoid. Her eyes narrowed into slits as she caught the deviation from the script.
"Who told you to add your own little commentary?!" Vivian snarled.
Before Ana could draw breath, Vivian lunged forward.
SLAP.
Vivian’s heavy, jewel signet ring slashed brutally across Anastasia’s left cheekbone. The force of the strike whipped Ana’s head violently to the side, the wooden chair rattling hard against the concrete floor.
Pain exploded across Ana’s face like hot fire. A sharp gasp tore from her throat as the skin split beneath her eye, warm blood immediately welling up and trickling down her pale jawline, dripping onto her coat.
"Ana!" Clara screamed in horror, thrashing against her iron bindings as terror choked her voice.
Vivian didn’t cut the recording. Instead, she stepped closer, grabbing a fistful of Ana’s hair and violently yanking her head up toward the camera. She brought the lens inches from the fresh, bleeding cut, letting the crimson trail show clearly under the halogen light.
"Look at her, Damian," Vivian purred into the microphone, her voice dripping with unhinged, sadistic malice. "Look at your precious little wife bleeding. You think you can treat me like an irrelevant nuisance? You have thirty minutes to confirm the asset transfers and clear the harbor. If you’re even one second late, the next thing this camera catches will be her throat opening up."
Vivian slammed the stop button and hit send, a shrill, victorious laugh echoing off the concrete walls.
"You’re a monster, Vivian," Ana choked out, blood coating her lip as she glared up with burning defiance.
"I’m the woman taking everything back," Vivian sneered, stepping back to tuck the phone into her coat.
Behind Vivian’s back, Clara used the moment of distraction. Shifting her weight silently, Clara worked her chained wrists against the rusted overhead pipe. With a faint, dull scrape, the corroded bracket gave way, dropping a heavy, pointed iron bolt directly into Clara’s waiting, bloodied fingers.

Inside the speeding car, the engine roared like a beast, tearing through the rain-slicked coastal expressway at over one hundred miles per hour.
A sharp, encrypted tone sliced through the vehicle’s cabin.
Damian brought up the incoming file on the center console monitor.
The screen flared to life with the recorded transmission. The second the footage rendered, the air inside the car froze solid.
On the high-resolution display, Anastasia sat tied to a wooden chair, her dark eyes hollow, cold, and bruised.
"Damian... let this end quietly, just like how you handled my father’s old warehouse assets."
Then, the strike came.
Crack.
The sound echoed through the car’s speakers like a gunshot. Vivian’s signet ring ripped across Anastasia’s cheek, sending a spray of crimson against the pale wood. Vivian yanked Ana’s head back by the roots of her hair, shoving the camera lens into the fresh, bleeding wound.
"Look at her bleeding, Damian... Thirty minutes, or her throat opens up."
In the passenger seat, Jullian Montgomery’s eyes locked onto the corner of the frame. In the dim background, chained by her wrists, stripped, beaten, and covered in blood, hung Clara Reed.
"Clara..." Jullian whispered, his voice cracking before it dropped into a raw, feral growl. His knuckles turned white against the door handle. "Damian, they have Clara. That sick bitch stripped and beat her."
Damian didn’t make a sound.
The silence radiating off him was more terrifying than an explosion. The glass on his personal phone splintered under the sheer crushing pressure of his bare hand. His eyes turned black as an unholy, annihilating fury burning behind them.
"She gave us the coordinates," Damian said, his voice flat, sharp, and deadly calm.
Jullian snapped his head around. "What?"
"The Vance estate never had warehouse assets in the city... except one," Damian spoke, his tone vibrating with lethal precision. "Pier 42. Cold-storage parcel seven. The old bankrupt shipping terminal."
Damian slammed his foot to the floorboard, the car surging forward into the darkness.
"Walter," Damian commanded into the secure comms unit. "All units converge on Pier 42. No negotiations. No prisoners. Shoot on sight."

Back in the subterranean dark of Pier 42, Vivian tucked the phone into her trench coat, admiring the fresh blood on her signet ring with a twisted, ecstatic smile.
"Thirty minutes, Anastasia," Vivian purred, turning her back to walk toward the table. "Thirty minutes until you watch Damian crawl on his knees for you."
Behind her, Clara didn’t wait for another breath.
Straining every shredded muscle in her beaten arms, Clara jammed the heavy iron bolt into the cracked link of her overhead chain. With a brutal, desperate wrench of her entire body weight, the rusted iron snapped with a deafening screech.
Clara dropped to the concrete like a falling stone.
Before Vivian could even register the sound, Clara lunged forward from behind, raising the pointed iron bolt and driving it violently down into Vivian’s right shoulder.
Vivian shrieked, a high, piercing scream of agony as warm blood instantly soaked through her tailored ivory coat.
"You miserable whore!" Vivian screamed, stumbling sideways, her pistol slipping from her numb fingers and clattering across the slick floorboards.
"Ana, the gun!" Clara shouted, tackling Vivian around the waist and dragging her to the concrete with raw, desperate fury.
Tied to the wooden chair, Anastasia didn’t hesitate. She dug the heels of her boots into the floor, thrusting her entire body weight forward.
The heavy chair tipped, smashing down with brutal force directly onto Vivian’s pinned legs.
Vivian shrieked again as bone ground beneath wood. She clawed at Clara’s face with one hand, while her other frantically stretched across the damp concrete, her bloody fingertips scraping within inches of the fallen pistol.
"Get off me!" Vivian snarled, her eyes wide with psychotic terror.
Ana twisted against the shattered remnants of the wooden frame, her bloodied cheek stinging as she locked eyes with the fallen weapon. "Clara, hold her down! Don’t let her reach it!"
Above them, through the thick concrete ceiling, the muffled, thunderous roar of high-caliber rifle fire suddenly ripped through the upper deck of the warehouse.

Damian tapped the encrypted console on the Maybach’s dashboard, dialing a direct, classified federal frequency while keeping the accelerator pinned to the floor.
The line connected on the second ring.
"Special Agent Miller," a crisp, official voice answered.
"Miller," Damian said, his voice flat, icy, and cutting like glass. "This is Damian Sterling. Your fugitive, Vivian Stark, is holed up at Pier 42, cold-storage parcel seven. The old Vance shipping terminal."
A sharp rustle of papers came over the line. "Sterling, hold your position. We need forty minutes to mobilize tactical units, establish a perimeter, and secure an entry warrant..."
"You have twenty minutes to pick up the bodies, Miller," Damian interrupted, his tone devoid of mercy. "Because I’m not waiting on your paperwork. If your men aren’t there when I breach the gate, you’ll be writing coroner reports instead of arrest warrants."
Damian severed the connection before the agent could protest, tossing the receiver aside.
Beside him, Jullian cocked a heavy gun slide back with a sharp, metallic clack, his knuckles white, his playboy smirk completely replaced by pure, lethal intent.
"Feds won’t make it in time anyway," Jullian muttered, his jaw set hard.
"They don’t need to," Damian replied, his obsidian eyes fixed on the looming, darkened silhouette of Pier 42 rising against the black harbor water. "They’re just there to clean up the mess."
Over the dashboard comms, Walter’s voice crackled through the speaker, tight with professional urgency.
"Boss, breach protocol without federal clearance means crossing a critical legal boundary. If you and Mr. Montgomery go in guns drawn before the federal tactical units arrive, the district attorney can hit you with unlawful entry, weapons charges, and vigilante escalation. It could dismantle everything you’ve built."
"Let the district attorney write his charges from a desk," Jullian said, his voice dropping into a venomous tone. "If a single bastard in that building thinks the law is going to protect themselves from what I am going to do to them for touching Clara... they’re about to learn how cheap their lives really are."
Damian didn’t even blink. His eyes remained locked onto the approaching darkness of the harbor line, his grip on the leather steering wheel turning lethal.
The aura radiating off him was pure, unchecked ruin.
"The law only exists for men who have something left to lose, Walter," Damian’s tone sliced through the comms like dry ice, heavy with dark, absolute possession. "Anastasia is breathing under that roof. And until she’s back in my hands... I am the only law that matters."
