While Sebastian and Star Genesis were discussing the properties of the Comprehension Fruits, Kyle was going through a world of pain.
His mind had already been somewhat attuned to the Elemental Energies, which was the only reason why he hadn't already died. If his mind hadn't been attuned before, the Energies would have simply destroyed it.
Nevertheless, parts of his mind still died, causing a wave of confusion and incoherence.
A person's personality and their experiences were all stored in their mind. The perception of time, memories, feelings, logic, and similar things all existed in their minds.
When Kyle's mind was damaged, these experiences shifted and became unnatural.
Nothing made sense anymore as the past, present, and future were distorted.
The memories of the pain were stored in incorrect places, making it feel like Kyle had been under this pain for his entire life. He remembered going on a hunt with Samson in the Tertiary World while the Elemental Energies were consuming his body. He remembered how he had still acted normally, but he also remembered that he had been under immeasurable pain back then.
He remembered talking to Theodor while being under this immense pain, but for some reason, they had never talked about this pain.
Memories of the pain influenced his pattern recognition, making him feel like the pain wasn't here yet but would arrive soon. Even though the pain was already there, he expected it to only appear in the future.
His feelings were also affected. The pain was interacting with his feelings and injecting itself into them. One moment, he associated pain with pleasure. The next moment, he associated it with sadness. He associated it with danger. He associated it with safety. As the pain entered different parts of his mind, it became intrinsically connected to it. It was part of him just as his arm was part of him. It was just part of his existence. It was part of life.
He felt longing for it, but he also feared it. He knew it wasn't good, but his mind had adapted so much to it that he feared that he would stop existing without it.
How long had he been here?
He had experienced this pain for his entire life, but he knew that it hadn't started yet. What he was experiencing right now was happening in the future. He remembered the pain starting thousands of years from now. It hadn't happened before, but his memories were filled with it. He remembered it, but he knew it hadn't happened. He knew it would happen, but it was already here.
His mind was filled with logical inconsistencies. His perceived reality had turned into a paradox of contradicting certainties.
Memories of pain turned into concepts that were part of how the Law of Minor Light worked. In order to make Minor Light, a certain feeling of searing pain in his lower abdomen was necessary. For Minor Fire, he needed to feel pain in his cheek.
Experiences and memories mixed with logical conclusions. In Kyle's mind, memories were not just data but logical concepts that dictated how the world worked.
He knew who he was, but he didn't know who he was. He was experiencing pain, but the pain wasn't there. He remembered it, but he never experienced it. It never happened. It was just a dream, but he remembered how it had shaped his life.
Kyle remembered countless memories and realized countless things. Sadly, the only thing he didn't realize was the truth.
Delirium. He didn't realize that he was experiencing delirium.
On the outside, he was still screaming in pain, but on the inside, nothing made sense anymore.
Was it bad? How bad was the pain?
Kyle didn't know. He had no reference point. He had always existed with this pain, but it had never happened. It wasn't real, but it was here. He perfectly knew how it worked, but he had never thought about it.
Kyle saw himself standing on top of his apartment on Earth. In the distance, there were beasts fighting against the military. Seekers were shooting across the sky. Meteors were rising from the ground, their presence causing pain. Theodor's voice was telling him that he would forever remain the Overseer. Everyone around him had Sin Flames, but they were heroes.
He stood on top of the Azure Comet as Demons entered psychiatric hospitals. Conversion of Worlds was playing games with the Chief Overseer from the Array of Stars. The Red Witch was crying as Sebastian tinkered on a massive machine. Their presence caused Kyle pain.
Kyle stood on top of nothingness, looking at a distant, shackled orb. Violent forces of destruction were trying to break the barrier between him and the orb. The barrier's presence caused pain.
The barrier distorted as Kyle looked at it with sadness. He didn't know why he was sad.
As it kept distorting, small bits of the destructive forces went past it. These small bits traveled all the way to the distant orb, but when they touched the chains around it, they vanished. Only a tiny bit of them managed to get past the chains to enter the orb.
Kyle's thoughts were chaotic and filled with nonsense as he looked at the orb.
And then, a single feeling of rejection led to the creation of a supremely coherent thought.
'That's not me.'
The white chain around the orb exploded together with the white chain that connected the orb to something in the distance.
The orb remained stable, but without the presence of the white chain, the bits of destructive Energy entered it freely.
Red, green, and grey streaks appeared on the orb, banishing its white color.
Kyle looked at the orb with confusion.
'Who are you?'
On the outside, Star Genesis' eyes widened as she took a horrified breath.
Kyle's skin was turning into fire! It was not burning. No, it was literally turning into fire!
Sebastian's eyes widened in horror as well.
This was not supposed to happen!
"What's happening?!" Star Genesis transmitted in horror.
"He's turning into an Elemental himself!" Sebastian answered. "Something must have happened that made his body more similar to the body of a beast!"
"What do we do?!" Star Genesis asked fearfully.
"We can't let this continue," Sebastian transmitted. "If he turns into an Elemental, he will lose almost all of his powers. The power of his existence would be limited to the Pure Laws he knows. He would lose access to all Complex Laws, severely limiting his Battle-Strength!"
"There's no other way!"
Before Star Genesis could ask for more information, Sebastian rammed his hand into Kyle's abdomen. The next moment, he pulled the Elemental and Kyle's Core Spark out of his body.
Then, he rammed the two of them into the Demon Car.
Kyle's body stopped transforming, and he stopped screaming.
A Core Spark was necessary for survival. Yet, as long as it existed, one would keep existing. A Core Spark didn't need to remain in someone's body to keep them alive. As long as it existed, it was fine.
Nevertheless, Sebastian's act had disconnected Kyle's Core Spark for just a moment, and during that moment, Kyle regained clarity for a short moment.
At the same time, the Demon Car started to burn as the foreign Energies caused havoc inside its body.
While this was happening, Kyle's mind was pulled to a different place.
His mind entered the Demon Car's mind.
