Kyle and Swamp Dragon just looked at each other. From the outside, it looked like two old acquaintances meeting, but in truth, both of them knew that Kyle desperately wanted to kill Swamp Dragon.
When Swamp Dragon saw Kyle, he confirmed that Fierce Breaker was dead.
'As predicted,' Swamp Dragon thought as he felt Kyle's undeniable power. 'The pieces are finally falling into place. The board is set. This would not have been my chosen outcome, but it's the best we can hope for.'
Swamp Dragon remembered the time the inheritance sphere had turned green. This had been the signal that Manny had essentially died.
Naturally, Swamp Dragon hadn't hesitated and immediately activated the inheritance.
In the next moments, he had been put into the shoes of an unfamiliar person in an unfamiliar world. Specters, Zephyx, Prephyx, Manufacturers, Extractors...
There hadn't been any Energy in this world, but there had been forces that humanity could use to grow stronger. An Experimental World at the level of a Secondary World.
Swamp Dragon had lived through the life of one of these inhabitants. Arguably, this had been the life of the most important existence in this Experimental World.
He hadn't been the strongest. He hadn't truly been in charge near the end. He had just planned everything and had used his unique set of abilities to fill a critical role.
The situation had been very similar to the situation Ayuvar was in, but even worse. In Ayuvar, they knew at least who their enemy was.
The life Swamp Dragon had lived in these memories showed him a varied perspective on morality. Morality was a subject that was discussed regularly, and it seemed like there wasn't a true consensus as to what was right and wrong. There were parts that over 90% of people could agree on, but there were no parts where people could fully agree. There were even parts that split opinions into two equal camps.
Swamp Dragon had seen the perspective of all of these camps, and in the end, he had redefined his own morality.
Result and value.
Swamp Dragon believed that killing billions of people so that trillions of people could live in happiness was a morally good trade. People often said that one couldn't rectify bad Karma with good Karma. Saving one life didn't mean that it was fine to take another life, but Swamp Dragon didn't agree.
In his mind, it was possible to assign concrete numbers to moral and immoral acts. Ending a life might reduce his hypothetical moral value by a hundred while saving a life increased it by one, but that just meant that ending one life to save 101 lives was a morally good act.
When Swamp Dragon had finished digesting the inheritance, he had looked at Ayuvar.
It had been in an endless cycle of destruction, pressure, and misery. The suffering Ayuvar generated was immense, and it wasn't just momentary. This constant cycle of suffering would keep happening for a very long time. Millions, maybe billions, of years of suffering.
When viewed from that perspective, committing a genocide so that countless future generations could live in peace sounded like a very favorable trade.
To Swamp Dragon, the collective outweighed the individual. The total was the most important. Every choice that increased the total amount of happiness in humanity was the morally correct choice.
After digesting the inheritance, Swamp Dragon had just thought about Manny's plans.
'Let Kyle grow in secret. When his Realm-relative Battle-Strength surpasses the Overseer's Battle-Strength, let him become an Immortal. The Overseer will be forced to decide between two evils. One, kill Kyle during his advancement and die to the World, saving Ayuvar. Two, allow Kyle to advance and enter a True Battle with his agreement, circumventing angering the World. If that happens, the Overseer will almost definitely die to Kyle. Kyle and Ayuvar are saved.'
This had been Manny's plan, and while it sounded simple, it was not easy to implement. If the plan had succeeded, Ayuvar would have been saved in both cases. There wouldn't have been a need for a genocide.
It hadn't been difficult for Swamp Dragon to see the plan with his newfound memories. He could also see why Manny had chosen such a plan.
'You've valued Kyle greatly. You believed that there was a chance that he might make a difference in this great war. However, you didn't believe that this small chance was worth an entire Primary World. Ayuvar has to be saved, no matter what. It's also important to keep Kyle alive, but that's secondary to you.'
Back then, Swamp Dragon had just looked towards the east with a determined expression.
'But you don't know Kyle. You've spent some time with him here and there. You've talked to him occasionally, but you don't truly know him. You haven't seen his development. You haven't seen how he trains and how quickly his power can actually grow.'
'I've been with Kyle for a long time, and I've witnessed his growth firsthand. Psychosis Manifestation, you want to put pressure on Kyle so that he grows faster. We both know that we can kill the Overseer, but you refuse to do so since you want to use the Overseer's threat to push Kyle.'
'However, you don't know that he doesn't need this pressure. As long as he becomes a Demigod, there will be a significant change. Your priorities are all wrong.'
'Kyle's survival vastly outweighs Ayuvar's survival in importance.'
'Your plan puts Kyle under two unnecessary risks. He's not someone proficient in the art of stealth. Asking him to train in secret is asking him to bet his life on his worst skill. Additionally, his life will be in the Overseer's hands when he becomes Immortal.'
'I will not allow this!'
'The Overseer has to die, and Kyle has to survive.'
That was when Swamp Dragon had started to come up with his plan.
'Kyle must have already fused with an Elemental and the Specter. With his adaptability, insights into Karma, Laws, and survival abilities, there's almost no chance that he wouldn't survive going to the Elemental Dimension.'
'The Overseer has to die, and there are only three things that can threaten them. The World, stronger Seekers from outside, and the Gate of Death. As long as I can put them into a situation in which they're enticed to break the rules, the world might kill them. Forcing a situation in which temporarily handing over their position to someone else would also lead to their death.'
'But if I truly want to kill them, I must make them summon a Gate of Death.'
It wasn't difficult for Swamp Dragon to come up with his first three trials since they all basically led into each other.
'There's a 99% chance the Overseer will die, but if that doesn't happen, I still need a backup plan.'
The next parts hadn't been easy to come up with since they couldn't involve Kyle trying to become an Immortal. If he needed the power of an Immortal to kill the Overseer, there would be a huge chance that he would die. Most likely, the Overseer would just gamble that they could resist the World another time.
Yet, that meant that Swamp Dragon had to find a way to make Kyle so strong that he could bridge the gap between Realms while fighting someone who knew every available Law in Ayuvar.
'A Refined Law that includes the Major Law of Death. That's the most I can give him. I don't think that's enough to bridge the gap, and I can't think of anything else.'
'But that's okay. Kyle is better at growing stronger than everyone I know. I trust in him.'
'If the Overseer truly survives the Gate of Death, it will be up to Kyle. Sadly, I can't give you even more.'
'Manny didn't trust in your power.'
'But I do.'
Then, Swamp Dragon had contacted Fierce Breaker to give him a modified version of his plan.
Some years later, they had set everything in motion.
