A while later, Max was sitting in a chair, facing Chu Liangxing and Mr. Wang.
After Mr. Wang told him how he had found him passed out in the Dark Valley and that he had brought him back to the city, he stood up, cupped his fists towards him and sincerely thanked him, "Thank you, Mr. Wang."
"No need, Patriarch Gu. Even if I hadn’t brought you out, nothing would have happened to you anyways." Mr. Wang said, making Max look at him in confusion.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"When I found you..." Mr. Wang explained the situation when he found him without hiding anything.
Then both he and Chu Liangxing stared at him, wanting to see his reaction.
Max’s brows furrowed in thought, "Some entity you say..." He murmured.
Chu Liangxing and Mr. Wang exchanged a glance at this reaction, feeling a little dismayed because unless Max was acting, he had no idea about this entity and this meant the chances of him having it help them weren’t high.
Max was too busy to think who had saved him and why to notice their expressions. However, no matter how hard he thought, he couldn’t think of anyone who would bother to save him since he knew no powerful person in this world, the same was true for ’Gu Chen’ too.
’Wait...’ A thought suddenly crossed his mind, ’What if the one who saved me wasn’t a person but really some entity like he said? Then it has to be from the Dark Valley, but why would someone belonging to the Dark Valley save me?’
’How frustrating!’ He grumbled inwardly, rubbing his temples. The reason he was feeling frustrated wasn’t because he didn’t know who had saved him but because he now owed someone a favor and he didn’t like it one bit.
Until now, save for the system, he hadn’t let anyone do him a favor until now, not in the true sense of the word...
’I will find a chance to repay them.’ He thought and finally shifted his focus to the two in front of him.
Glancing at Mr. Wang, he said, "Still, thank you for bringing me out of the valley and...helping me clean. I’ll remember this."
Mr. Wang nodded and just as he was considering saying something to broach the topic Chu Liangxing was to talk about to him, Max glanced at Chu Liangxing and said, his voice noticeably colder, "Mr. Judicial Officer... can I leave now? Or do you want to ask me something?"
Both Mr. Wang and Chu Liangxing understood what he meant by that question—he was thinking that they were curious about how he improved so quickly even if they weren’t coveting his secret.
Chu Liangxing looked at him and slowly nodded, "I indeed want to ask you something and it’s not about what you are thinking. But before I do that, can you tell me why you seem less friendly to me?"
Max didn’t bother to deny that this wasn’t the case or tried to hide it.
"You being the majestic Judicial Officer might not know this, but recently my family was being targeted unfairly—our river territory was slowly being taken away. We complained several times to the person in charge but he took no action.
Since he falls under your jurisdiction, we believe you or rather the Judicial Office had no intention of helping us. Moreover, recently someone threatened that even if we went to you directly, it still wouldn’t help us... I don’t need to explain what this means. So it’s natural I don’t have a good opinion of you."
He was aware that Chu Liangxing was a Marrow Cleansing realm cultivator and was most likely a lot stronger than him who had just reached the First Layer of the realm. Adding the fact that he was under the City Lord Mansion’s direct command... he should try to not offend him too seriously but he couldn’t help him.
Of course he knew the Garfield Bloodline was affecting him, changing his way of thinking but... was it wrong? Did he really always want to cower in fear and be cautious of every little thing just because he was the weaker party? He didn’t... no longer, at least.
Chu Liangxing frowned. Then he sighed, stood up and bowed toward him, "It’s all because of my recent negligence. I will punish the person in charge of River Territories’ supervision and everyone who encroached upon your territory will be punished severely."
’Oh?’ This surprised Max but then a hint of understanding dawned on him. It seemed he needed him.
His guess was proven correct when Chu Liangxing sat down and said, "I hope you won’t let this matter affect your judgement because I need to ask for your favor. In fact, let it affect your judgement if you can’t help it, just please don’t refuse to help me."
"You don’t need to trouble yourself for my sake, I doubt those people would dare to keep my family’s territory any longer." Commented Max indifferently. Then he added, "As for helping you, I can only tell what my decision will be after I have heard exactly what you require of me."
Chu Liangxing nodded. After a moment of silence, he began speaking, "A month ago, my only daughter had entered the Dark Valley, wanting to hone her sword skills against the dark beasts. She was at the peak of Blood Condensation and there were going to be a few Bone Tempering realm experts accompanying her and making sure she didn’t go too deep into the valley and was safe. So I let her go.
However, I don’t know what happened, whether they went too deep in the valley or encountered some powerful dark beast, save for my daughter and the only late Bone Tempering realm expert in the group, everyone perished there.
My daughter and the Bone Tempering experts weren’t unharmed either. The latter’s injuries were too serious and he passed away not long after bringing my daughter to the city and my daughter... her injuries weren’t light either but I managed to keep her from dying.
Unfortunately, that Dark Energy has entered deep into her vital organs and has even corrupted her Dantian and Life Force. Not even a Sky Ascension realm cultivator can expel it while making sure she survives. Perhaps only someone in the Golden Core cultivator or stronger or...
Here he paused for a moment, fixed his gaze on Max and said, "...Someone familiar with the Dark Energy can do it. Even the City Lord can’t bring a Golden Core cultivator for help, let alone me. So the only option left is to find someone who is familiar with Dark Energy."
Max didn’t need to hear more to know what he wanted from him and said, "So you want me to find that Entity and have it extract the Dark Energy from your daughter’s body?"
"That’s correct." Nodded Chu Liangxing solemnly.
"You saw my reaction when I heard about it, no? I don’t know this Entity. So what makes you think I can still help you?" Max asked.
"That Entity clearly favors you for whatever reason, otherwise it wouldn’t have saved you. So I’m betting on the fact that it favors you enough that if you ask for its help, it wouldn’t refuse." Chu Liangxing said. He knew how absurd and far-fetched he was being here, but he didn’t mind it because the only other option was that Demon.
