Max stared at him in silence and took in his bedraggled appearance, obviously the result of his worries about his daughter’s well being.

Max didn’t respond, instead, he summoned his status screen with a thought.

"Understood." Mr. Wang nodded, then they entered the building.

The instant they did, the onlookers erupted into a lively discussion.

But he soon became aware that some of the gazes were becoming hostile, so he hurriedly said, "You all know the Gu family? The one that was granted the permission to reside in the city for three more years even after they lost their only Bone Tempering realm cultivator?"

"Yes, what about it?" Someone impatiently asked.

"Their youngest son had been bedridden from some peculiar illness. Just yesterday, he had recovered and suddenly reached the Bone Tempering realm and became the family’s Patriarch." The man revealed this information in one breath as some people’s eyes began to flicker in realization, he announced, "That’s right, that guy was none other than the Young Patriarch of Gu Family, Gu Chen."

Everyone’s eyes widened in astonishment which soon turned into denial.

When the duo on the Gatekeeping duty saw him, they immediately let out long breaths of relief. The news of people going after him in the forest had spread throughout the family and everyone, even the ones who didn’t know him, was worried because they didn’t want to lose their backing so soon after regaining it.

"So news reached the family, huh?" Max muttered under his breath and after nodding at the duo in acknowledgement, he hurried towards his family’s residences to let them know he was fine.

"I’ll go and break the news of Patriarch’s return to the family." One of the Gatekeepers rushed inside and soon the news reached everyone’s ears. Everyone sighed in relief and the Elders gathered and headed toward the Patriarch’s residence, determined to tell him not to take such risks in future.

When the other family members got the news, they gathered together in front of the Patriarch’s residence and began waiting for the Elders to come out.

Just a short while later, the family members saw them returning wearing dazed expressions on their faces.

"Second Elder, Third Elder, what happened? Did the Patriarch Promise to not go out?" Someone asked.

The third Elders glanced at the speaker and shook his head, "No. He did not."

Before the family members could begin worrying, the Second Elder recovered from his numb state, took a deep breath and said, "We... We no longer need to fear the Song and Liu families’ pulling any tricks because... the Patriarch..."

The instant he finished speaking...

BOOM!!
