Suddenly, I Am Rich

Chapter 387: Lily And Eli

The old woman smiled gratefully as Gray took the two products from her hands and began explaining the differences between them. A few minutes later, she left with a satisfied expression and several more items in her cart.

"Thank you, young man."

"You’re welcome, Ma’am." Gray watched her leave before returning the remaining product to the shelf.

A small smile lingered on his face. Warmth settled in his chest. It reminded him of the days when he had first started managing the store.

Back then, he had spent most of his time walking through the aisles and also helping customers. Compared to everything that had happened over the past few months, this felt refreshingly normal.

And honestly?

He preferred it.

A few days had passed since Gray visited. Their life continued moving forward, including the situation involving Alistair.

The legal process in his case had finally entered its next stage. After weeks of investigations, document reviews, witness interviews, and evidence gathering, the prosecutors had formally moved forward with the case.

The first court hearing had been scheduled two weeks from now.

Gray had been informed about it. Several emails were also sent to him about the case. But aside from acknowledging it, Gray didn’t do anything about it.

He had already made his position clear weeks ago that he wasn’t the victim and he wasn’t the one pursuing justice. His role had ended the moment he handed over everything he had collected over the course of months.

At this point, the matter belonged to the courts and not him.

He also asked Eli if he wanted to pursue the matter, but the young boy was already happy with how things were.

As for Alistair... the last updates Gray had received about him weren’t particularly positive. Alistair’s office had been placed under official investigation. It was sealed off by authorities while records and financial documents were being reviewed.

Because of it, the whole city was in chaos. The mayor that everyone adored and loved for the past few years had suddenly become a detainee in its own.

The deeper investigators looked into it, the more difficult things seemed to become for the Mayor. Perhaps the most telling change wasn’t even the investigation itself. It was the people who used to be around him.

Many of Alistair’s associates had already distanced themselves from the man completely. And it was not just in private but also in public. No one wanted to be associated with a man facing serious allegations, after all.

"That’s what happens when you do bad things, Lily." Gray playfully flicked Lily’s forehead.

"Ouch, brother!" Lily’s exaggerated reaction filled their place.

Eli laughed at it.

Gray was explaining to the two of them what happened to Alistair. He didn’t say what happened in full detail, but just gave a gist of what happened. The two were seriously curious about it, so he knew he had no way out.

It was a good time too to teach them something about life.

"Hays..." Lily dramatically shook her head as she crossed her arms. "That man is so bad, Brother."

Gray chuckled lightly at her reaction.

"I can’t believe he even hurt our dear Eli!" Lily continued. She scooted closer to Eli on the couch before throwing an arm around his shoulder protectively.

"Our dear Eli?" Gray raised a brow.

"That’s right." Lily nodded seriously.

"Our dear Eli."

Eli immediately looked embarrassed.

"I-I’m not a child..." he muttered.

"You are."

"I’m not."

"You are."

"I’m not!"

Gray watched the two bicker for a few seconds before shaking his head with amusement. Now, the two of them looked comfortable with each other.

Lily ignored Eli’s protest and continued talking.

"Seriously, though," she huffed. "People like that are the worst." Her expression softened slightly as she looked at Eli.

"You didn’t even do anything wrong."

"Well..." Eli lowered his gaze.

"You didn’t, okay?" Lily insisted. "Sometimes bad people just decide to do bad things."

Gray’s eyes moved toward her. For a moment, he was surprised by how mature her words sounded. It was so unlike of Lily.

Lily noticed his stare.

"What, brother?"

"Nothing." He just smiled. "I Just didn’t expect that from you."

"Excuse me, Brother?" Lily immediately pointed at herself. "I’m very wise, you know!"

"You failed your math test last month, you know." Gray tried to mimic her voice, causing for Lily to be annoyed. Her face crumpled as she looked at Gray.

"That was one time!"

"You failed twice."

"Brother!"

Eli burst out laughing when he saw Lily’s face turn red.

"Why are you bringing that up now?!"

"Because it’s funny."

"It is not!"

The living room was filled with Eli and Gray’s laughter while Lily stayed annoyed. After the laughter died down, though, Eli quietly spoke.

"Do you think he’ll go to jail forever, Brother Gray?"

The room became slightly quiet at that. Gray looked at the young boy for a moment. A small smile appeared on his lips before he shook his head.

"I don’t know, Eli." It was an honest answer from him. "That’s for the court to decide."

Eli nodded slowly.

"And if he doesn’t?"

Gray remained silent for a few seconds before answering.

"We hope that won’t be the case." Gray could only answer. He reached over and lightly patted the boy’s shoulder.

"Whatever happens, I won’t let you two be in danger, okay?"

Eli stared at him for a moment before slowly nodding. Lily immediately nodded as well to coax Eli.

"Brother is right, Eli. We are safe here!"

"Yeah."

"And besides," she added, puffing her chest out proudly, "if anyone tries to bully you again, I’ll beat them up."

Eli looked at her blankly.

"Yesh cause you weigh like forty kilos."

"Hey!" That made Lily all red. She quickly pointed a finger to Eli at that.

Eli just laughed at it, causing Lily to pout before crossing her arms again.

"Alright, stop fighting you two." Gray had to intervene before Lily becomes more annoyed. He smiled at the two and wiggled his brows.

"How about we visit your Sister Selina today in her office?"

That suggestion immediately made the two kids’ eyes brighten.

"Let’s go, brother!"

"Let’s go, brother Gray!"
