Chapter 1235: Chapter 1234: Pushing One’s Luck
Jiang Cheng looked at the computer that had been opened in front of him but didn’t feel like doing anything. He glanced at the identity card in his hand and thought it wasn’t much different from the one he had on Earth.
He glanced again at Cloud, who was still seriously looking at the identity card in her hand.
"Brother Jiang, it’s almost done," Cloud said to Jiang Cheng after putting down the identity card.
"So soon?" Jiang Cheng asked incredulously as he looked at Cloud.
"Yes, believe me, let’s go," Cloud said to Jiang Cheng with a confident raise of her eyebrows.
Jiang Cheng smiled at Cloud’s confident demeanor and followed her out.
When Jiang Cheng and Cloud reached the internet café’s counter, the attendant looked amazed. "You came out so quickly?" the attendant asked.
"Oh, we have something urgent," Cloud replied without realizing why they were surprised. Internet café customers usually came to play games and stayed for a long time. Jiang Cheng and Cloud had almost just entered and then left, making the attendant find it hard to believe.
The attendant still cast a doubtful glance at Jiang Cheng and Cloud before taking back the identity cards.
"Brother Jiang, I’ll go back and work on it now," Cloud said to Jiang Cheng eagerly.
Jiang Cheng found Cloud’s enthusiastic look amusing, "Okay, go ahead and do it."
When Jiang Cheng and Cloud returned to the hotel, Jiang Cheng saw Zhao Shuai and Qi Rongfeng reading a book on the Li Country language together. He had thought Zhao Shuai would have gone off somewhere to have fun by the time he returned, but it turned out Zhao was still here, reading nonetheless.
Jiang Cheng walked over to Zhao Shuai, noting that both Zhao Shuai and Qi Rongfeng were reading the same book, which covered complex grammar from Li Country.
"Shuai, have you reached this level?" Jiang Cheng asked.
"Yeah, Brother Jiang, wouldn’t have guessed it, would you?" Zhao Shuai said, seeing Jiang Cheng’s puzzled look.
"Yeah, I saw you asleep before I went out, and now you’ve learned so quickly?"
"Brother Jiang, you don’t know, Shuai has a photographic memory," Qi Rongfeng said with a smile at Jiang Cheng.
Jiang Cheng watched Zhao Shuai’s smug smile. Though he wasn’t sure of the claim, he was genuinely surprised. He had assumed Zhao Shuai’s nonchalant attitude was just for show, yet the innate talent of a photographic memory couldn’t be acquired, it was indeed remarkable.
"Brother Jiang, I almost know it now. Haha. You won’t need to translate for me anymore," Zhao Shuai said proudly.
"Hmm. I just went out with Cloud. We’re planning to create a few identity cards to make our movements more convenient," Jiang Cheng said to Zhao Shuai and Qi Rongfeng.
"Yeah, it’s good to leave that task to Cloud, otherwise she’d have nothing to do every day," Zhao Shuai said with a laugh.
"What? I’m idle?" Cloud said as she entered the room and overheard Zhao Shuai speaking ill of her. She walked over to Zhao Shuai and started tugging his ear.
"Ouch, ouch, alright, alright," Zhao Shuai cried out in pain, "Let go, let go."
Cloud looked at Jiang Cheng’s helpless expression and released her grip, "Who’s the one doing nothing all day? I’m doing proper work, okay?"
Zhao Shuai didn’t dare say anything else about Cloud and just looked at Cloud as he squinted pitifully, avoiding her gaze.
Jiang Cheng recalled that when they first came to stay at the hotel, there was no requirement for an identity card. He hadn’t noticed it before, but now he found it odd, "Why didn’t they ask for our identity cards when we checked in?"
"I found it strange too, but it worked out well, didn’t it? We didn’t have identity cards," Cloud said.
"Perhaps it’s because of the elections these days. When we checked in, the front desk lady was looking at election candidate information," Qi Rongfeng remarked observantly.
"Speaking of which, I saw on TV that the election results will be announced tonight," Zhao Shuai said.
Even if they’re focused on national affairs, they shouldn’t forget to ask for identity cards. It’s such a basic thing. Why would the front desk lady forget this? Jiang Cheng still felt a bit confused.
"By the way, Cloud, didn’t you just go to create identity cards? Why are you back now? Is it proving difficult?" Jiang Cheng asked.
"I just remembered, to make identity cards, I need molds and materials, but some materials are hard to procure," Cloud replied. When she had done it before, it was just for fun, and the materials were provided by her father.
"What materials do you need? Let me see if I have any," Jiang Cheng asked.
"I need a vulcanized hydraulic press, some durable plastics, etc. I can find some of these things, but I can’t find a hydraulic press," Cloud said.
"A vulcanized hydraulic press?" Jiang Cheng wasn’t sure where to find this. Such things are usually heard of only when specifically making machines.
"I have a vulcanized hydraulic press at home, but this item isn’t sold on the market," Qi Rongfeng said.
"I actually bought mine at the underground market," Cloud said.
Jiang Cheng wondered if he could make a hydraulic press, but quickly dismissed the thought. He had the materials to create a hydraulic press but lacked the equipment to assemble them.
"Besides the vulcanized hydraulic press, the rest should be easy to find, right?" Zhao Shuai said.
"Yeah, I can find the rest," Cloud said.
Just as everyone was worried about the vulcanized hydraulic press, Jiang Cheng received a phone call.
Jiang Cheng answered and found it was Zhang Tian.
"Brother Jiang, are our phones usable here?" Zhao Shuai asked curiously as Jiang Cheng answered the call.
"It’s Zhang Tian," Jiang Cheng replied.
"Oh? What’s he want?" Zhao Shuai said.
"He asked for help, said their company’s computer is broken and wants me to fix it," Jiang Cheng said.
"What?" Zhao Shuai was quite angry, "Why is he asking you?"
"Who does he think he is?" Zhao Shuai was furious, feeling that Zhang Tian was taking advantage, treating Jiang Cheng as just a computer repairman.
"Hey, don’t rush, I think Zhang Tian might be looking for Brother Jiang for something more than just a broken computer," Qi Rongfeng said, seeing Zhao Shuai’s anger.
"I think so too, he might have something up, I’ll go look," Jiang Cheng said.
"I’ll go with you, Brother Jiang, I have some understanding of computers too," Qi Feng said to Jiang Cheng.
"I’m going too!" Zhao Shuai said.
"Forget it, better not. If you go, it’ll just cause trouble again," Cloud said, knowing Zhao Shuai’s intentions and expecting he would make trouble for Zhang Tian.
"Hey, why am I causing trouble?" Zhao Shuai said, looking at Cloud.
"Shuai, you shouldn’t go. Rongfeng and I will go," Jiang Cheng said.
Zhao Shuai wanted to say something, but Jiang Cheng wouldn’t agree to him going along. "You should accompany Cloud to buy the remaining materials, we can’t let Cloud go alone," Jiang Cheng said.
Zhao Shuai didn’t argue further and felt he should accompany Cloud outside.
Jiang Cheng and Qi Rongfeng took a cab to the Qiting Company that Zhang Tian mentioned. Jiang Cheng looked at the towering building ahead; from the outside, this structure appeared advanced, resembling a large company indeed. Although Zhang Tian, in the call, had invited Jiang Cheng to the company to fix a computer, his tone lacked freshness or urgency, merely stating the company had a computer issue without elaborating further.
