Chapter 1257: Chapter 1256: Master Venerable
They just want to trip us up, make us look bad.
But what their ultimate goal is, I really can’t say for sure," Jiang Zai said.
"Then let’s go find Rongfeng now. I’m really feeling uneasy," Zhao Shuai said.
"Follow me," Jiang Cheng said.
Zhao Shuai followed Jiang Cheng out of the room, walking straight ahead, until they reached a garden that looked like the backyard of the Wula Sect. There were only a few people tending to the plants.
Jiang Cheng took out the analyzer and saw that there were only a few readings on it, suggesting these might be the only people present. Jiang Cheng had almost walked through all the rooms at the back of the Wula Sect. He was almost certain Qi Rongfeng was probably trapped in another space, and his phone couldn’t get through.
"Jiang, what’s going on?" Zhao Shuai saw Jiang Cheng standing still, lost in thought, and although he didn’t want to disturb him, he was really anxious.
"I suspect Rongfeng is in another space. I don’t have the Four-dimensional Mirror now, nor anything that could access another space."
Jiang Cheng regretted not bringing the Four-dimensional Mirror at that time.
"Then I’ll go find Zhang Tian. He should have one," Zhao Shuai said.
Jiang Cheng was surprised since Zhao Shuai usually didn’t want to have anything to do with Zhang Tian. Now he was voluntarily seeking him out.
"You’d better go look for Nature. I’m going to find the Master Venerable here," Jiang Cheng felt he couldn’t remain passive any longer. Being led around like this felt terrible. He needed to confront the Wula Sect leaders and let them know he wasn’t a pushover.
Zhao Shuai looked at Jiang Cheng’s serious and somewhat angry expression and felt worried for the people of the Wula Sect. Jiang was about to play his trump card, Zhao Shuai thought.
"I’m leaving now. Be careful, Jiang," Zhao Shuai said and left.
Earlier, Jiang Cheng had noticed that the Wula Sect’s outer area was a main hall for worship. Walking further in was the residing place for ordinary Wula sect members, where Jiang Cheng was currently located. Further ahead was the law’s residence, and the innermost part was where the Master Venerable lived, right at the mountain top.
Jiang Cheng kept walking forward, noticing many people staring at him, but he ignored them. He was really angry that these people targeted him, but employed such sneaky tactics against Zhao Shuai and Qi Rongfeng, which were truly despicable actions. He felt that the Wula Sect’s Master Venerable was not someone he could easily meet. He didn’t know their abilities or power levels; maybe they could even observe his every move, but he didn’t want to think too much about that now. He just wanted to punish the culprits personally.
Jiang Cheng climbed a long flight of stairs until he saw a row of seemingly isolated houses ahead.
Before Jiang Cheng could proceed, he saw someone exit one of the houses, dressed like a Taoist with somewhat ethereal looks. This person seemed to be going out but stopped upon seeing Jiang Cheng.
Jiang Cheng got a clearer look and felt familiar. He moved closer and realized this was someone he had seen at the summit the other day; he had come with another person.
"Who are you?" the Taoist-robed man asked.
The man looked young, only a few years older than Jiang Cheng, fit and looked good even in the Taoist robe.
"I’m Jiang Cheng, I just passed the initial test yesterday," Jiang Cheng said.
"Oh, well, it’s not time for the retest yet, so you’re a bit early," the Taoist-robed man said with puzzlement.
Jiang Cheng saw the man didn’t seem aware of his situation.
"I’m here to see your Master Venerable for other matters," Jiang Cheng said.
"Master Venerable? Alright, I’ll take you," the Taoist-robed man seemed dubious but quickly decided to lead Jiang Cheng forward.
Jiang Cheng didn’t expect it to be this smooth. Perhaps the man didn’t know anything, Jiang Cheng thought as he followed.
The Taoist-robed man just led Jiang Cheng forward, saying nothing and remaining silent along the way.
After a while, Jiang Cheng saw there was still quite a distance ahead. It looked short but took longer to traverse than expected. Suddenly, a floral fragrance filled the air. Jiang Cheng saw before him a garden with clusters of purple flowers, whose petals resembled those of a lotus but grew in bunches. They looked beautiful.
The Taoist-robed man suddenly stopped by the flower bed, picked a flower, and handed it to Jiang Cheng behind him. "Here you go."
Jiang Cheng received a flower for the first time in his life, felt quite complicated, and seeing the man’s playful demeanor, he smiled.
"What flower is this?" Jiang Cheng asked.
"Purple Slipper Flower," the Taoist-robed man said. "It only grows in warm places; it’s rare here," he said with a tinge of regret in his voice.
"It’s beautiful and fragrant," Jiang Cheng said.
The Taoist-robed man said no more and continued walking silently.
After another ten minutes, they finally reached their destination. Jiang Cheng looked at the house ahead, which resembled more of a cave from the outside and appeared long.
The Taoist-robed man walked up to the door, looked around, and said, "You arrived at an unfortunate time. The Master Venerable is in seclusion and won’t be seeing anyone for a while."
"Do you want to wait or leave?" asked the Taoist-robed man.
"I’ll leave first. I’ve delayed too long, Zhao Shuai might have returned by now."
Jiang Cheng thought perhaps this had nothing to do with the Master Venerable. The person in front hadn’t been involved either. Who could it be?
"Let’s go then, I’m leaving too," the Taoist-robed man said.
Jiang Cheng was curious about the man before him. He appeared young, innocent, and even somewhat nonchalant, like he hadn’t matured yet. He didn’t ask about either of the matters; he just took Jiang Cheng along, and as they left, didn’t inquire about anything, as if it had nothing to do with him. But looking at his expression, it seemed he genuinely didn’t understand these matters. Jiang Cheng really couldn’t fathom him.
Jiang Cheng was about to head back the way he came, thinking this visit had yielded nothing, when another man approached. He appeared about fifty years old, dressed very casually.
"Da Fei, where are you off to?" the man asked, glancing at Jiang Cheng behind Da Fei.
"He’s here to see the Master Venerable, I brought him," Da Fei said offhandedly.
"Da Fei, you’re really being reckless. Do you bring just anyone here?"
The man glanced at Da Fei and then at Jiang Cheng.
"Who are you? The Master Venerable isn’t someone you can meet on a whim!" the man’s voice turned harsh.
"I’m Jiang Cheng," Jiang Cheng said.
As soon as Jiang Cheng finished speaking, he saw the man’s expression change abruptly.
"I’m here to find my friend," Jiang Cheng thought the person before him might know something.
"Oh, right, right," the man looked at Jiang Cheng and then at Da Fei. "I know where they are, follow me quickly," the man smiled, but it seemed unnerving.
