Chapter 1274: Chapter 1273: The Robed Man
Many people below started to protest, and a few even stormed out of the room. Many stood in place, not knowing what to do. The entire great hall descended into chaos. Yet, the Guardians on the stage showed no signs of panic. They simply sat solemnly on their chairs, watching the situation below as if they had experienced this many times before.
Jiang Cheng looked at the computer in front of him. After a quick glance, he saw that there were many issues, but for him, they were no problems at all.
Zhao Shuai watched Jiang Cheng’s fingers fly across the keyboard. Just as expected, matters like these were most suitable for Jiang, thought Zhao Shuai. Watching Jiang Cheng’s fluent series of actions, he felt this was indeed the Jiang he truly knew.
Three minutes later, Jiang Cheng completed the task, as if the assignment was specifically tailored for him. It was easily handled.
Jiang Cheng glanced at Zhao Shuai and noticed his work was down to the last step. After another three minutes, Zhao Shuai also finished. "Jiang, you’re still amazing," Zhao Shuai remarked. He raised his head and found Jiang Cheng watching him, then looked at him with a face full of admiration. Jiang Cheng felt somewhat wistful. He had never known Zhao Shuai was this skilled. Though the test wasn’t difficult, for some top-tier T workers, such a task would take at least ten minutes. But Zhao Shuai completed it in just five or six minutes. Jiang Cheng looked at Zhao Shuai’s indifferent demeanor, realizing for the first time that he might be just someone who usually likes to play around. When serious, he’s definitely skilled.
Zhao Shuai was unaware that Jiang Cheng now had a high opinion of him and continued to idolize Jiang Cheng. "Jiang, I think we both will definitely get in this time. Look at them," he said.
Jiang Cheng also looked at the participants around him. There were less than two minutes left, but it was obvious that the rest were already unable to finish.
When time was up, the Guardian on stage announced the end. At this point, many people had already left, seemingly aware that they wouldn’t advance to the next round. Jiang Cheng noticed that eleven people in total had completed the task. It seemed that it would come down to the completion time, he thought.
"Next, we’ll announce the list for the third-round qualifiers," the Guardian on stage proclaimed, calling out names. When Zhao Shuai’s name was mentioned, he froze, shocked that Jiang Cheng’s name wasn’t called.
"What’s going on, Jiang? How come you’re not on the list? You should be the first!" Zhao Shuai said to Jiang Cheng.
Jiang Cheng was also puzzled. "I have a question!" Zhao Shuai raised his hand high and shouted.
The Guardian on stage turned toward them and asked Zhao Shuai, "Please speak."
"The person next to me completed everything in three minutes; why is his name missing?"
Jiang Cheng didn’t say anything, but he had a rough idea in his heart of what had happened.
"He tied with someone else and was eliminated," the female Guardian on stage said matter-of-factly.
"Tied with whom? Is there such a rule?" Zhao Shuai was nearly ready to rush up and question them.
"Tied with Qiu Qingqing. As for the rule, it exists. When two people achieve the same result, one of them will be eliminated," the female Guardian continued.
"What reason?" Jiang Cheng asked calmly, stopping Zhao Shuai from charging forward.
The people around them seemed to forget about their own exclusion, merely watching the spectacle unfold with interest. They debated, "Who’s that? Doesn’t seem to know their place." "Hey, don’t say that. That person is indeed capable. In this third-round test, not many people nationwide can complete it in such a short time. But that is Qiu Qingqing."
"With her family’s influence, does she need to ask such questions?"
"Reason? There’s no particular reason," the female Guardian smiled, her grin carrying a hint of provocation.
Jiang Cheng looked at the distant, still indifferent female, just a silhouette, as if the people and events around her had nothing to do with her.
"Jiang, let it go. I don’t want to get in anymore. Who do they think they are, cheating so openly," Zhao Shuai said, his face flushed with anger.
Beside them, Qi Rongfeng and Cloud were equally furious. Walking up to Jiang Cheng, "Jiang, what do you plan to do?"
"If you ask me, let’s just leave together. We came here as a favor to them. With Jiang’s skills, do we really need to let them pick us?"
Cloud looked at the female Guardian still laughing on stage.
Before Jiang Cheng could speak, there was a commotion at the door. Jiang Cheng glanced back and saw a familiar figure.
"Isn’t that the bald guy?" Zhao Shuai immediately recognized him. "He dares to show up so openly? I haven’t even gone after him yet."
"Calm down, the place is full of Wula Sect people. Do you want to go up and hit him directly?" Qi Ruofeng held Zhao Shuai’s eager hand and said.
Jiang Cheng smiled when he saw Li Bin’s flustered appearance. He remained silent, standing quietly in place.
Li Bin rushed up to the stage and exchanged a few words with one of the female Guardians. She then took out her phone to check something, after which she mirrored Li Bin’s flustered expression. They both approached another Guardian, and the three of them checked something together. The Taoist-robed man sat aside, clutching the hem of his robe, indifferent to the chaos around him.
"What’s wrong with the bald guy?" Zhao Shuai asked, watching the commotion on the stage.
"Looks like he received my gift," Jiang Cheng chuckled.
Cloud, Qi Rongfeng, and Zhao Shuai looked at Jiang Cheng’s smile, feeling a chill. Jiang Cheng’s smile seemed truly frightening, Zhao Shuai thought.
"What gift, Jiang?" Zhao Shuai asked excitedly.
"Don’t rush; you’ll find out soon enough," Jiang Cheng said calmly.
Qi Rongfeng, watching Jiang Cheng’s demeanor, knew someone was bound to suffer. The audience watched the sudden turn of events on stage, resulting in a flurry of chaos.
Jiang Cheng glanced up to see that Li Bin had somehow reached the Taoist-robed man’s side, speaking to him, his face filled with an ingratiating smile.
The Taoist-robed man simply lowered his eyes to the object in Li Bin’s hand, seemingly saying, "I won’t." Li Bin’s face showed an expression of helplessness.
At that moment, one of the male Guardians on stage said, "Today’s assessment ends here. Due to internal reasons of the sect, the remaining assessments will be completed tomorrow. Everyone can go back now."
The audience began to noisily make their way out. Just as Jiang Cheng was about to turn away, he saw Li Bin stepping down from the stage listlessly, passing right by him. Suddenly, Li Bin grabbed Jiang Cheng. "It was you, wasn’t it? You did this!" Li Bin said, staring wide-eyed at Jiang Cheng.
Jiang Cheng slowly pulled his sleeve from Li Bin’s grip and looked at him, "What did I do?"
Quickly, many people gathered around, watching Jiang Cheng and Li Bin.
"What’s going on?" "I don’t know."
"My computer and phone were hacked by you, weren’t they? Not just that, if I call anyone, their phone ends up like mine," Li Bin accused, staring at Jiang Cheng, biting down on his assertions. "What’s your agenda? You surely didn’t come to our Wula Sect with pure intentions."
