Chapter 1275 - 1274: Second Round Selection

Chapter 1275: Chapter 1274: Second Round Selection

I don’t have that kind of skill. I just got eliminated by you guys, remember?" Jiang Zai said as he glanced at the Guardians on the stage. All those Guardians lowered their heads and stopped talking, nothing like the self‑righteous attitude they’d had just a moment ago.

Jiang Cheng said that and was about to turn around and leave.

"Don’t go!" Li Bin grabbed Jiang Cheng’s jacket again. "Hey! You, you just keep saying you didn’t, so where’s your evidence? You’re just slandering me here." Zhao Shuai came over and pried Li Bin’s hand off as he spoke.

"Of course I checked it, but all the surveillance was squeaky clean. It was definitely wiped by you." Li Bin was already a bit unhinged, shouting loudly.

"Everything you’re saying is just your own wild speculation, right? If you keep accusing people without evidence like this, I’m going to sue you for harassment." Jiang Cheng looked at Li Bin and spoke slowly.

"You!" Li Bin stared at Jiang Cheng. "My computer has a ton of internal Wula Sect files. You definitely wanted to steal that stuff. I’m not letting you leave." Jiang Cheng was getting impatient; he hadn’t expected Li Bin to be this kind of person. He looked at the man in front of him with clear annoyance, slowly pried off the hand clutching his sleeve, and just stared at Li Bin, expression still impatient.

Li Bin met Jiang Cheng’s chilly gaze and, against his will, actually felt a little flustered. He barely managed to steady himself, telling himself this was his turf, what could Jiang Cheng possibly do to him? So he forced himself to glare back at Jiang Cheng.

"Has the third‑round assessment started yet?" A very pleasant male voice came from above. Everyone looked up at the stage—it was the robe‑wearing man who’d been sitting there the whole time. No one knew when he’d stood up. He was no longer fussing with the corner of his robe and instead looked down at the crowd, a bit puzzled. "Down there, up here, it’s all dead quiet. Nobody seems to know what to say."

"Guardian Gu, my computer and phone were both hacked by this guy, a whole bunch of Wula Sect files are missing." Li Bin pointed at Jiang Cheng and said.

The man on stage only glanced at Jiang Cheng, then looked over at the other Guardians who had closed their folders. "What’s going on? Is the third‑round assessment done yet? If it’s done I’m going back to sleep." The robed man even gave a lazy yawn; he looked really sleepy.

For a moment the entire hall was stunned into silence. The others on stage were too; one male Guardian hurried a look at Li Bin. "You step outside first. Whatever’s going on, we’ll talk after the retest is over."

Li Bin still wanted to say something, but a few Wula Sect disciples walked over and ushered him out. He stomped off, cursing Jiang Cheng under his breath as he went, looking like he’d suffered some immense injustice.

"Heh, that guy is seriously disgusting." Cloud watched Li Bin’s retreating back and said.

"Alright, that was just a little interlude. I’d like to apologize to everyone here. The third‑round assessment officially starts now."

"Jiang, that guy in the robe looks really powerful, huh? It’s like everything here is decided by him." Zhao Shuai glanced at the robed man on stage and whispered to Jiang Zai.

Right then everyone in the hall was watching the robed man, waiting to see what method he’d use to pick out twenty people. "Whoa? He’s really handsome."

"Yeah, and so young. His voice sounds so good too." "Totally, totally, and he’s got that elegant‑rascal vibe, seriously cool."

A lot of the girls, not knowing what was going on, were looking at the robed man with worshipful eyes. "Sigh, these girls—don’t they ever look at what’s on the inside? Just the face?" Zhao Shuai pursed his lips.

"And you don’t look at girls’ faces?" Cloud rolled her eyes at Zhao Shuai. "How is that the same? For men, what matters most is what’s inside." Zhao Shuai patted his chest. "Look at me, then look at Jiang."

After he finished, Zhao Shuai looked at Jiang Cheng, then guiltily scratched his head. "Though Jiang looks pretty good too. Haha."

Jiang Cheng and Qi Rongfeng watched Zhao Shuai carry on like that and couldn’t help wanting to laugh. The good mood Jiang Cheng had earlier, which Li Bin had wrecked for no reason, was starting to return.

Jiang Cheng looked up at the robed man on stage. For the first time, he felt genuinely unsure about someone. He didn’t know if this guy was really just that laid‑back and forgetful, or if there was something else going on behind it.

"But what do we do now? You didn’t make it through the first two rounds, Jiang, and now it’s already the third..." Cloud frowned as she spoke.

"It’s fine, don’t worry." Jiang Cheng smiled at Cloud.

Zhao Shuai and Qi Rongfeng watched how relaxed Jiang Cheng looked, like he didn’t care about any of this at all. But for some reason, they just had the feeling that Jiang Cheng already had his own plan in mind.

"Alright, I’m going to start picking people." The robed man said, then began calling people out. "You. And you. Yeah, you!" He pointed down at the crowd as he named them.

The people below were all stunned, but no one made a sound; they just quietly watched him pick.

Watching him randomly point at people like that, Jiang Cheng figured the guy probably didn’t even know any of their names. And he hadn’t tested anything at all, had he? He clearly hadn’t looked at how they’d performed earlier either.

"You. And you." The robed man kept calling, looking completely casual. Before they realized it, both Cloud and Qi Rongfeng were picked, just like that, passing the retest.

Cloud was a bit dazed when she was called—she’d just passed the retest like that? She walked up to the front with Qi Rongfeng, still feeling a bit incredulous. Jiang Cheng glanced at the ones who’d been picked; among them was that Qiu Qingqing. It was about nineteen people now. As Jiang Cheng was thinking this, he noticed the robed man on stage seemed to pause and hesitate for a few seconds. Then he looked straight at him. "And you." The robed man pointed at Jiang Cheng as he spoke. The people nearby all looked utterly stunned, especially the guy standing right next to Jiang Cheng, who’d honestly thought he was the one being pointed at and had already started to rush toward the stage in excitement.

"You. That Jiang Cheng, if I’m remembering right, yeah?" the robed man said.

Jiang Cheng nodded and walked to the front. "What the hell, wasn’t he eliminated already?" "Yeah, seriously, what’s this? Of all people you pick him?" The people around them kept pointing at Jiang Cheng and chattering nonstop.

Jiang Cheng ignored everyone and simply stood up front. Qi Rongfeng and the other two quickly came over to stand beside him. "Wow, Jiang, that guy really does have good taste. Haha." Zhao Shuai said, laughing.

"Yeah, I knew in the end they’d definitely choose Jiang." Cloud said, smiling.

Jiang Cheng just smiled and didn’t say anything. "No way. He’s already been eliminated. On what basis are you picking him?" "Yeah, that makes no sense." "Exactly." Protests rose one after another from below; plenty of people chimed in, saying they did not agree with letting Jiang Cheng into the retest.

The robed man looked down at the crowd. "May I ask what standard you’re using to make your selections?" The guy who’d just been standing next to Jiang Cheng, the one who’d taken it personally, boldly stepped forward to question him.

"Pff." Qiu Qingqing at the front suddenly let out a little laugh. Jiang Cheng saw her shoulders tremble.

Quite a few others started laughing too, laughing at how ridiculous and unserious the robed man was.

"Something this important, and that’s your standard for choosing people?" the same guy continued to challenge.

Many people below said they absolutely refused to accept it. They kept on protesting.

The robed man irritably pinched the bridge of his nose, then walked straight off without even looking at the crowd.

The Guardians on stage looked like they were used to him being this way; they said nothing, just watched him walk off, all wearing helpless expressions. "All the candidates for the retest have now been finalized. Thank you all for your cooperation. Those who made the retest, please come back in three days for the final exam." With that, the people on stage also filed out one after another.
