Chapter 1278 - 1277: Betrayal

Chapter 1278: Chapter 1277: Betrayal

Jiang Cheng took Wu Shan to the nearest hospital and sent her to the emergency room without any delay. Jiang Cheng looked at the light flashing above the emergency room. Although he didn’t know what had happened to Wu Shan, seeing her like this, Jiang Cheng found himself feeling a bit of heartache.

He didn’t know what had happened to Wu Shan, but he felt that the situation in front of him might not be that simple, and moreover, Wu Fen wouldn’t easily be set up by someone. But what exactly had gone wrong? Jiang Cheng didn’t know. He only hoped she would wake up soon and clarify everything.

Ten minutes had passed, and there was still no movement inside. The light kept flashing, indicating that the person inside had not woken up. Jiang Cheng had never found these ten minutes so excruciating. A trace of fear rose within his heart. After another twenty minutes, a doctor came out, and Jiang Cheng approached to ask about the situation, "Doctor, how is she?"

The doctor glanced at Jiang Cheng and, in a somewhat displeased tone, said, "Are you her lover? How are you taking care of her? She already has severe anemia, but she hasn’t eaten in the past two days. It seems she didn’t rest yesterday either. Fortunately, today she only fainted due to temporary deficiency of energy and blood. If this continues, who knows when she will wake up next time."

Jiang Cheng didn’t refute after hearing the doctor’s words, just couldn’t understand why Wu Shan hadn’t eaten for two days. Jiang Cheng went to the side to complete the procedures, then went outside to buy some porridge and chicken soup, and brought them to the ward.

Wu Shan still hadn’t woken up. She was on a drip and looked pale and fragile. Jiang Cheng saw her hand extending from under the blanket, and it looked like there wasn’t any flesh on it. He wondered if she had any family at all.

After a few minutes, Wu Shan’s fingers moved slightly. Jiang Cheng, after seeing this, watched Wu Shan intently, and then saw Wu Fen’s dense eyelashes tremble slightly. She opened her eyes.

As soon as she opened her eyes, Wu Shan squinted as if not adapting, then opened them and looked at Jiang Cheng beside her, struggling to sit up.

"Hey, don’t move." Jiang Cheng stopped Wu Mu and let her lie down.

"Have some porridge first." Jiang Cheng handed the porridge from the table to Wu Shan.

Wu Shan didn’t take it, just looked at Jiang Cheng. Her eyes were indifferent.

"The doctor said you’re not in good health, you need to eat something after waking up." Jiang Cheng said.

Wu Shan still didn’t move, staring at Jiang Cheng. After a while, she said, "I don’t want to drink." then turned her head to the other side.

Wu Shan’s voice was still very hoarse. But it seemed she really didn’t want to drink, so Jiang Cheng had to put down the porridge first, unexpectedly had a day where he was serving others.

"Why don’t you eat?" Jiang Cheng asked.

Wu Shan kept looking at the window on the other side, silent. Jiang Cheng saw Wu Shi’s skin was pale, almost transparent, probably due to malnutrition, so much that the veins under her neck were visible.

"You didn’t do this, right?" Jiang Cheng said again.

Wu Shan still didn’t respond.

"You did those things in Kai Ao Country, right?" Jiang Cheng said.

Only then did Wu Shan finally turn her head to look at Jiang Cheng. "Yes, it was all me."

Jiang Cheng looked into Wu Shan’s eyes, so large that now they were filled with tears but hadn’t fallen. Jiang Cheng panicked a little, wondering when he made her cry.

"This time it’s obvious you didn’t do it; why did you admit to it?" Jiang Cheng thought of what he saw in Wu Shan’s confession at the team office earlier. Although it logically aligned with the facts, Jiang Cheng really didn’t believe it.

"Whatever the case, thank you anyway. You came to bail me out and even took me to the hospital. But now, you can leave." Wu Shan’s tone was cold but hoarse.

"Don’t you have family?" Jiang Cheng didn’t leave, instead continued to ask.

"I do, Mantasha is my mother." Wu Shan said, as if simply stating a fact, without any emotion. "But aren’t you wondering why I didn’t call my mom to bail me out and called you instead?"

"Because my mom was the one who sent me in." Wu Shan continued.

Jiang Cheng did not expect Mantasha to really be Wu Shan’s mother, or rather, he didn’t understand why in such a situation, Wu Shan revealed it so easily.

"Before you came, did you suspect I had some conspiracy?" Wu Fen suddenly smiled, looking at Jiang Cheng.

Jiang Cheng felt somewhat embarrassed. That was indeed what he had thought, so he said nothing.

Seeing Jiang Cheng’s expression, Wu Shan knew she had guessed right. "Yes, a person like me always has conspiracies in what I do. It’s all about harming others." Wu Fen spoke, somewhat helpless yet somewhat desolate. "But whether I am willing or not, I have to do those things, I have no choice."

"I am destined to be your enemy. So you shouldn’t have come to the team office to bail me out today, nor should you have brought me to the hospital when I fainted, because once I recover, I will continue to harm others and oppose you." Wu Shan said word by word.

But Jiang Cheng could feel the deep helplessness and desolation in her tone.

"I came today just because I don’t think you’re a bad person, that’s all. No matter what you did before, I never thought you were that bad." Jiang Cheng said.

After finishing, Jiang Cheng turned and left. "I will always remember you as the Wu Shan who gave me flowers." He said before stepping out the door.

Jiang Cheng had not walked far from the door when he heard the sounds of sobbing coming from the ward. He suddenly felt heartache, which he had felt earlier, always believing that Wu Fen had her reasons. But he never expected that there might have been many things he truly misunderstood about Wu Shi.

Walking a few steps, Jiang Cheng saw a black silhouette approaching from the front, coming closer and closer. "We’ve met again, Scientist Jiang."

Mantasha! Jiang Cheng thought. Mantasha stopped in front of Jiang Cheng. Today, Mantasha looked somewhat spirited, not as old as the last time they met. It seemed she had prepared for a long time before coming. Her daughter was hospitalized, yet she remained so composed, even taking the time to prepare her appearance! Jiang Cheng wondered if it was real.

"What are you doing here?" Jiang Cheng pretended not to know anything and asked.

"Ha ha, shouldn’t I be asking you that? Scientist Jiang, Wu is my daughter, she’s ill, of course, I’d come to visit her." Mantasha smiled, wrinkles appearing by her eyes.

"Oh? Really? I’ve never seen you show concern for her." Jiang Cheng said.

"Ha ha, no matter what, you seem to care a lot about Wu Shan in our family." Mantasha said with a hint of amusement.

"But she really likes you, you know that, don’t you?" Mantasha suddenly looked at Jiang Cheng and said.

Jiang Cheng was momentarily stunned. He didn’t understand why Mantasha suddenly said such a thing.

"You don’t know, do you? Sigh, I did say so, in the end, the hurt one would definitely be her." Mantasha said dramatically, covering her mouth. "She wants to break free from my control. I thought you two had planned it together, then she’d run to you. But seeing this, she’s all into it by herself. Sigh."

"Today’s event wasn’t her doing, was it?" Jiang Cheng asked.

"How should I put it, she didn’t want to, wanted to betray me, but today I let her taste the consequence of betraying me." Although Mantasha was smiling, her demeanor remained sinister and chilling.
