Chapter 1281: Chapter 1280: Infighting
Jiang Cheng saw that the disciple of the Wula Sect in front was likely serving the Vice Master Venerable of the sect. He was led into the reception room. Speaking of receptions,
it was actually just a long table with many barrels. On the table was a computer, and behind it sat a man. From Jiang Cheng’s angle, he could only see the top of his hair, which appeared to be graying. He seemed like an elderly man, Jiang Cheng thought. However, the lower half of his body was blocked from view. Jiang Cheng slowly walked to the front. The entire room was unusually quiet,
After a while, the man behind them finally raised his head. He glanced briefly at Jiang Cheng and the others without much reaction, then looked towards Li Bin, "Is this the person you mentioned?"
The voice, completely mismatched with his appearance, sounded deep and slightly gravelly—it seemed he was only in his thirties, Jiang Cheng thought, but he appeared around thirty indeed. He didn’t look too different. "Sit down," said the man.
Jiang Cheng pulled out a chair and sat down. Qi watched the man in front who hadn’t moved at all, feeling suspicious.
and sat behind Jiang Cheng. Li Bin slowly walked to the man’s side, stood beside him, but did not sit down.
He whispered something into the man’s ear. The man’s gaze kept drifting over Jiang Cheng and the others, ultimately settling on Jiang Cheng without speaking.
Li Bin finished speaking but still seemed nervous and uncertain, standing aside without making any further movement.
"Did you do it?" the man asked.
For some reason, every time the man spoke, Jiang Cheng felt an inexplicable unease arising.
"What does the Vice Master Venerable think?" Jiang Cheng asked.
"What do I think?" The man chuckled, gazing at Jiang Cheng, his eyes with a hint of malice. "Why?"
Jiang Cheng thought to himself, here it is, just waiting for you to ask that.
"Earlier we accidentally found ourselves in the desert. For some reason, it felt like an Illusion Realm, everything was so surreal, and certainly very dangerous. We nearly died there,"
Jiang Cheng said.
The man’s expression remained calm, as if he was calmly listening to Jiang Cheng’s narrative. Jiang Cheng noticed his eyes flashed briefly, and was quite certain the person who arranged the setup previously was undoubtedly the person in front of him. But why would someone like him want to eliminate me?
"Yet you all emerged safely, didn’t you?" the man said casually.
Jiang Cheng watched his indifferent demeanor and couldn’t help clenching his fists. He had felt unprecedented stress at the time, yet the instigator assumed an authoritative posture. Clearly ruthless, clearly fate-dicing, clearly careless with lives!
Jiang Cheng forcibly repressed his anger. "Yeah, but afterward I understood it was Li Bin’s doing, which might not have been appropriate."
Jiang Cheng said flatly.
The man glanced at Jiang Cheng, speaking slowly, "Then fix it well. We won’t trouble you further."
"I won’t fix it, and Li Bin said something similar before," Jiang Cheng said earnestly.
Zhao Shuai, behind, nodded silently at Jiang Cheng’s unabashed lying.
The man looked at Jiang Cheng, still calm, "Then how do we resolve it?"
Jiang Cheng stared at the man, speaking deliberately, "I just want to get last time’s matters clear, after all, it’s my motive, and why I do this."
"Last time’s matters of course—" Li Bin stepped out, somewhat angrily embarrassed, but the man behind interrupted. He glanced at Li Bin; Li Bin fiercely shot a look at Jiang Cheng, reluctantly stepping aside.
"I originally intended to trouble Scholar Venerable, but heard he is in seclusion, so I came here," Jiang Cheng said slowly, eyes firm.
"Master Venerable has indeed been busy lately," the man said slowly.
"Regarding this matter, I can be the judge." The man suddenly smiled, falsely, waving to the side, and someone outside entered, "Take them down," the man said to Li Bin beside him.
Li Bin’s face instantly became quite remarkable, filled with fear and disbelief, "Vice Master Venerable, I—" He didn’t finish as he was led away by the person next to him.
Jiang Cheng watched Li Bin’s dejected face; his purpose was accomplished. Jiang Cheng thought, looking at the man in front, truly ruthless.
"I almost understand. Li Bin, usually, often uses his private authority. This time I feel you’re in the right, so don’t worry," the man said, his hand continuously rubbing something underneath.
Just then Jiang Cheng realized this person seemed never to have moved, and the hand always down below. Could it be?
Sure enough, the man slowly moved forward.
"What?" Zhao Shuai exclaimed suddenly. "Jiang, look!"
Jiang Cheng naturally noticed too, the man was in a wheelchair.
Jiang Cheng hadn’t expected this, but seeing the man’s adeptness at maneuvering the wheelchair, must have been accustomed to such life.
"Let me entertain you with my legs being like this," the man smiled as he got closer to Jiang Cheng.
"It’s okay," Jiang Cheng smiled in return.
Zhao Shuai watched the two interact, although they seemed to be smiling, he genuinely felt the tension.
Jiang Cheng observed the man before him, realizing he knew Jiang Cheng only sought to prevent Li Bin from harassing him further and cut off Li Bin’s plots against him. Only by letting these people fight among themselves, a dog-eat-dog scenario, could he resolve things effectively.
"It boils down to our Wula Sect failing to educate our disciples properly. I heard you all recently passed the re-test?" the man said.
"Yes," Jiang Cheng replied, aware the man wouldn’t let him go so easily.
"You all must be quite capable, right?" the man said, looking at Zhao Shuai and the others behind him.
"Mainly lucky," Zhao Shuai said.
"Haha, interesting, this kid. How stringent and hard it is to enter our Wula Sect, I’m very aware," the man said with a laugh, "You mustn’t be so modest."
Jiang Cheng and the others had no choice but to say nothing more. Jiang Cheng wanted to leave but the man before him seemed unlikely to let him go. Jiang Cheng remained silent, watching the man’s fingers steadily rubbing the wheelchair handles.
"I still have high hopes for you all. If you become the fortunate nine, we might see each other frequently," the man said.
"Will Master Venerable personally test us then?" Cloud asked.
A touch of intrigue flickered in the man’s eyes. "Yes, it seems you’re quite eager to meet Master Venerable,"
"Yes," Zhao Shuai said, looking expectant.
"Haha, actually, he’s about your age, you’ll see. Unlike me, I’m quite old. All youth dedicated to the Wula Sect," the man said with some regret.
"You seem very young too," Zhao Shuai began his flattery mode again.
