Chapter 2309: Chapter 2310: Mutation
Upon hearing the words, Xiao Bai lazily stood up from the ground, its eyes becoming sharp, as if ready to deal with danger at any moment.
Tang Ming found it rather peculiar.
Though small, the creature before him had a certain spiritual aura, something Tang Ming had never witnessed before.
"Truly a strange creature," Tang Ming muttered.
Meanwhile, there were already some changes happening with Zhao Mu.
At his location, a peculiar aura seemed to diffuse outward, carrying a terrifyingly sinister presence, almost tangible, emitting a faint reddish glow visibly from Zhao Mu’s body, matching the water of the lake below.
"What’s happening?"
The faces of everyone changed slightly, accompanied by a strong sense of reluctance, as they naturally sensed an extraordinary power within that aura.
And this power was even more terrifying than Zhao Mu’s original aura, emanating from the artifact!
Ssss.
Everyone inhaled sharply, imagining that possessing this artifact could bring them immense power!
Thinking this way, their eyes inevitably burned with desire.
Though tempted, no one dared to make a move; Zhao Mu, already at the fifth realm of Spiritual Embryo Stage, with the artifact’s enhancement, now possessed unknown power, making everyone cautious, fearing to become a regretful soul.
While everyone pondered, the water surface of the lake gently rippled, countless waves spreading from Zhao Mu as the center, out towards the surroundings.
As the water gently swayed, it swept away the remaining faint red color on the surface, clear lake water surging from below, purging all the turbid water occupying the lake surface.
As Zhao Mu slowly drew out, the artifact beneath the lake began to reveal its half-hidden form.
It was a sword.
The sword hilt was smooth and elongated, seemingly carved from round wood, adorned with various sigils, with strands of black lines entwined.
Beneath the hilt was a cold, dark blue blade of unknown length.
The blade appeared to be formed from blood, a crimson, viscous surface, with even the clear water unable to fully cleanse it.
Yet, from the tip of the sword below, the peculiar crimson color seemed to be drawn by something, gathering upwards.
Symbols shimmered on the side of the sword hilt, continuously concentrating upon Zhao Mu’s body.
Zhao Mu lowered his head, his face obscured from those at a distance.
As the lake cleared, his reflection appeared on its surface.
His eyes tightly shut, his forehead glistening with sweat, evaporating almost immediately, in an unusual manner.
His young face now covered in a web of blood, reminiscent of the transformation Lin Chen experienced when confronting Lu Kang.
Unlike Lin Chen’s, which was dark, Zhao Mu’s was red.
The sword finally drew out from the water below, the dark blue blade several feet long, held obliquely before Zhao Mu, lightly touching the lake surface, over half consumed by crimson, the remainder still coursing towards Zhao Mu.
"Elder Zhao, what’s wrong?"
The people gathered around him watched Zhao Mu unmoving for so long, their expressions tense, and one disciple cautiously approached him.
Zhao Mu remained silent, standing like an ancient tree, facing the sudden gale without budging, while only his garments fluttered.
The disciple, full of surprise, reached Zhao Mu, extended a hand, frowned slightly, then gently placed it on Zhao Mu’s shoulder.
Suddenly, a flash of cold light appeared, chilling under the blazing sun; among those present, only a few witnessed any movement from Zhao Mu.
The disciple who approached was decapitated in an instant, his head separating and flying away from his body.
A stream of blood abruptly sprayed from his neck like a fountain, shooting meters up, before falling as a bloody rain, staining the lake.
The disciple didn’t even manage a scream, showing Zhao Mu’s swift swordplay!
After this, the glyphs on the longsword glowed brighter, the blood apparently drawn by some strange artifact, gathering on the sword, and then into Zhao Mu’s hand.
This scene startled everyone present into a brief daze.
"Elder Zhao! What are you doing?"
The disciples of the Crimson Flame Sect were the first to react, awakened by the sudden blood rain, one shouted angrily, tremblingly pointing towards Zhao Mu.
Though elders within the sect had the authority to decide life and death over ordinary disciples, such unexplained slaughter also made it difficult for anyone to remain calm.
As the words fell, Zhao Mu slowly turned; his body appeared stiff, far less agile than before. He raised his head, eyes tightly shut, looking towards the speaking disciple.
The disciple hesitated, for Zhao Mu now looked terrifying, his face crawling with blood threads like maggots, giving him a frightfully creepy appearance.
Swallowing hard, the disciple tried to calm his nerves, speaking tremulously, "Elder Zhao, such actions hardly convince others."
His tone softened a bit, perhaps due to being scared.
Zhao Mu remained silent, his face expressionless, only blood lines moving.
After a moment, Zhao Mu’s eyelids twitched, his tightly closed eyes slowly opened under their slight movement.
"Ah!"
As his eyes opened, the disciple seemed so terrified by something, he let out a loud cry, his body retreating uncontrollably, nearly falling back into the water.
With hands holding his head, he stepped into the water and out, retreating repeatedly on the water’s surface.
He kept shaking his head, as if facing something immensely frightening, attempting to shake out whatever was in his mind.
"What’s truly happening?"
Everyone was deeply fearful, looking up towards Zhao Mu, but seeing only his back.
