Chapter 2310: Chapter 2311: A Sword
With a swoosh, Zhao Mu stepped forward, his speed surprisingly fast. As he retreated, the air shook, and he darted out, swinging the sword in his hand. It slashed through that disciple’s chest, causing a large amount of blood to spill.
That disciple seemed to feel nothing, continuing to shake his head as if what was in his mind was far more terrifying than the pain of his wound.
He kept running for a few breaths, during which blood kept dripping, and eventually, he collapsed weakly onto the water, dead.
"Something’s off!"
The expressions of the crowd tightened. Even if they were stupid, they sensed something was strange. It wouldn’t matter if Zhao Mu killed others, but he was killing his sect’s disciple now.
This disciple was exceptionally talented, and such rampant slaughter must have some reason.
The key to this likely lay in the longsword in his hand, which they previously deemed a treasure.
After killing one, the most shocking thing was that Zhao Mu did not stop. He looked towards another area, like a machine of slaughter, moving slowly towards the living people around him, reaping their lives.
Woo.
Little Bai softly cooed. It stood up, pointed at the distant Zhao Mu, then at Lin Chen, gesturing as if merging them into one.
"Are you saying that I used to look the same as this?"
Lin Chen’s gaze paused. He looked at Zhao Mu’s silhouette with a heavier heart. If what Little Bai said was accurate, then his former state was genuinely terrifying.
The more Lin Chen thought about it, the more he felt apprehensive. Becoming an unconscious entity like that was unacceptable to anyone.
Soft thuds constantly echoed among the silhouettes, each sound accompanied by a falling figure. In no time, only two or three silhouettes remained, including Jin Yuwen.
"Heh, thought it was a treasure, but it’s a hot potato!"
"Indeed, lucky for us Crimson Flame Sect paved the way. Otherwise, we’d have recklessly grabbed it and turned into mindless lunatics!"
Most silhouettes stood a hundred meters from the lake. They watched the scenes before them with interest, their lips curling into smirks. The sight delighted them immensely.
The previous arrogance of the Crimson Flame Sect vanished; they were like drowned rats, chased by their elders.
How could they not feel immense pleasure?
Meanwhile, they kept counting their blessings. If not for Crimson Flame Sect’s interference, it might have been one of them facing this situation.
"Not good, it can’t go on like this, or we’ll die waiting."
Jin Yuwen was about a hundred meters from the shore.
A hundred meters is not too far yet not short either.
For him, already at the second level of Spirit Pill, it was just a moment’s work.
But his speed, though fast, was slower than Zhao Mu’s! Zhao Mu pursued recklessly behind Jin Yuwen, while fellow sect members kept dying.
If not for Jin Yuwen’s quick reflexes, he might have also fallen to it.
He stood there, with an older man beside him, also a disciple of Crimson Flame Sect.
At this moment, neither dared move, or even breathe heavily, as Zhao Mu’s intense aura locked onto them. Any slight movement would lead to slaughter.
Zhao Mu himself walked slowly towards them, unhurried now with only two left.
Jin Yuwen grew anxious. The gap between them closed rapidly, down to fifty meters now.
His mind whirled, thinking of a strategy.
Suddenly his gaze brightened upon seeing the other disciple beside him.
He turned to the man next to him and said solemnly, "Senior Brother, I joined later and learned less, my death is no loss, but Senior Brother must survive."
"Let me assist Senior Brother first, to leave not without a deed in this lifetime."
Jin Yuwen’s expression was earnest, seemingly genuine, especially his demeanor tangled between noble sacrifice and unwillingness which made the man beside him believe.
Joy filled the man, for life was foremost; all else was vain, only survival mattered.
"Junior Brother, this kindness, I’ll surely ask our ancestor to engrave it so later disciples may learn from it!"
The man hid his glee, speaking earnestly to Jin Yuwen with solemn words.
"No time to delay, once I divert him, Senior Brother must flee quickly!"
By now Zhao Mu was merely thirty meters away, nearing proximity made both their hearts tremble.
Yet they dared not act rashly; those who moved first had already perished, leaving the two of them.
"Alright!" The fellow disciple nodded solemnly.
Jin Yuwen turned his head, a cold smile forming on his face.
"Go!"
With a sudden raise of his sleeve, coupled with such words from his mouth.
With that, the fellow disciple immediately sprinted out, towards the opposite direction.
"See you in the next life, Senior Brother."
As the man bolted, Jin Yuwen smirked, lowering his hand slowly, the crossbow hidden in his sleeve never shot, still concealed.
But the man did not know.
He believed as Jin Yuwen attacked Zhao Mu, naturally drawing his attention.
Yet what he didn’t expect was that Jin Yuwen never attacked Zhao Mu, merely coaxed him to escape.
Sure enough, almost as the man started running, the cold glint on the blue blade flashed. Amidst a flicker, Zhao Mu pursued the man.
But as for Jin Yuwen beside him, Zhao Mu didn’t spare a glance!
Jin Yuwen’s lips curled into a cold smile. Then his foot hit the lake surface, creating a spray of rushing waves towards the shore.
In the brief slaughter, he already grasped Zhao Mu’s moves. Any initial action would lead to pursuit.
In pursuit, although momentary, he had moved long enough, and only a hundred meters left, sufficient for Jin Yuwen to reach the shore.
Upon reaching the shore, with numerous silhouettes gathered, Jin Yuwen refused to believe they could all remain calm. Any movement increased his survival chances.
The lake churned briefly, and Jin Yuwen was already at the shore, his gaze coldly fixed on the lake.
