Supreme Bloodline Evolution System

Chapter 241: Fighting Against the Chains

The crystals beneath Max’s feet responded to his every step, changing color wherever he walked as if they could sense the emotions stirring within him while he made his way toward the royal chambers. Guards and workers greeted him with relieved smiles, grateful to see that their king had returned alive and unharmed.

Yet despite his calm expression and steady pace, everyone could sense that something was wrong. An unfamiliar coldness surrounded him, though none of them dared to question their king about it.

Max pushed open the massive doors leading into his chambers, where his two beautiful women sat together on the bed, quietly chatting as they awaited his return. The moment he stepped inside, their faces blossomed with soft, delicate smiles, while the love and relief shining in their eyes could have melted even the coldest heart.

"What’s the matter, dear? Is the celebration of your return not to your liking?" Rosalia asked as she rose from the bed and strolled toward him, reaching for his hand.

Her soft fingers wrapped around his, their familiar warmth spreading across his skin. Normally, such a simple touch would have made Max’s heart race, while his desire for her body would have threatened to overwhelm his reason.

With both Rosalia and Agnia waiting for him, he knew that the man he had once been would have taken them here and now, allowing their bodies to help him forget everything that had happened, if only for a little while.

Yet even with two breathtaking women before him, Max found himself without the slightest craving for sex for the first time in his life.

"It’s great." His eyes met Rosalia’s, though little emotion could be seen within them. "I’m simply not in the mood for a celebration right now."

Max wrapped an arm around her soft waist and gently pulled her closer. "Sit with me."

Agnia shifted to the side, making room for Max to sit between them. As soon as he settled onto the bed, she leaned against him and rested her head upon his shoulder, breathing in the familiar scent and warmth of the man whose strength and presence she had missed so deeply while he was gone.

One of her hands slid around his arm, holding him as if she needed to reassure herself that he had truly returned.

"What’s the matter?" Rosalia asked again as she sat beside him.

Out of everyone in Max’s life, Rosalia had known him the longest. She had seen him at his weakest, watched him grow into the man and king he had become, and learned to recognize the emotions he tried to hide behind his silence.

She could sense how different he was now, as though something inside him had been stripped away and replaced by a cold emptiness.

More than that, she could tell that he was carrying something heavy within him, something he could no longer hide from her.

"There’s something you need to know about me."

His words caused both women to tense. It was the first time Max had ever said something like that, and neither of them knew what it could mean. The weight in his voice made it clear that this was not some ordinary confession, but something he had carried alone for a long time.

"Whatever you want to tell us, we will listen," Agnia said as her fingers gently brushed the back of the hand resting upon her thigh. There was concern in her eyes, but no hesitation.

"We have all day, so don’t force yourself," Rosalia added. Her fingers tightened around his hand until he could feel her pulse beating against his skin, slightly faster than before.

Max remained silent for a moment as he gathered his thoughts. He had faced armies, rulers, and creatures powerful enough to erase cities, yet speaking these words somehow felt more difficult than confronting any of them.

"Rosalia, do you remember what I told you when we first met?" His gaze settled upon her. "Do you remember where I said I came from?"

His void heart suddenly tightened, as though an invisible hand had wrapped around it and begun to squeeze. There was little pain at first, only pressure, but Max immediately understood the warning behind it.

Something did not want him to continue.

"That?" Rosalia paused, searching through memories that had long since faded beneath everything they had experienced together. "You mentioned that you came from some distant region, but you never spoke of it again, and I never asked." A hopeful smile appeared on her face as excitement entered her eyes. "Why? Have you finally remembered where your home is?"

"No. That wasn’t entirely true." Max slowly shook his head.

The image of his mother driving a knife into his body flashed before his eyes, bringing with it the cold shock of betrayal and the helplessness of his final moments in that world. This time, however, Max did not turn away from the memory. He felt strong enough to face it, even if speaking about it threatened to reopen wounds he had buried long ago.

"When we first met, I was unable to tell you the truth." Max looked between Rosalia and Agnia, his expression becoming grave. "What I’m about to tell the two of you cannot leave this room. You must not reveal it to anyone without my permission, no matter how much you trust them."

The excitement slowly disappeared from Rosalia’s eyes as she realized how serious the situation truly was.

"I am not from this world."

Max’s words caused both women to stare at him, their brows rising as they tried to understand what he meant.

"Max, we already know that your talent and strength are otherworldly," Agnia said, attempting to ease the tension with a faint smile. "If this is your way of finally admitting that you are some ancient monster disguised as a handsome man, I think we accepted that possibility long ago."

Rosalia’s eyes flicked toward her, and the seriousness in her expression made Agnia’s smile slowly disappear.

"He doesn’t mean it like that," Rosalia whispered.

She turned back to Max and gently brushed several strands of hair away from his face. His expression was too cold, too burdened for this to be a joke or an exaggeration.

"What exactly do you mean, my love?"

"I—"

The retaliation came immediately.

Max’s void heart clenched so violently that his entire body stiffened. His breath caught in his throat as crushing pressure closed around his heart, squeezing harder with every passing moment until it felt ready to burst inside his chest. His fingers seized the fabric of his clothes as he leaned forward, fighting to remain conscious.

"Max?" Rosalia’s face paled as she caught him by the shoulders. "What’s wrong?"

Agnia immediately moved closer, wrapping one arm around his body to keep him upright. Her earlier attempt at humor vanished completely as she watched the muscles in his jaw tighten from the pain.

"Is it your heart?" she asked. "Max, look at me. Tell us what’s happening."

He tried to draw a full breath, but the pressure only worsened, forcing a strained sound from between his clenched teeth.

"Let me have a look." Rosalia’s palm lit up with a soft green light as she reached toward his chest, preparing to ease whatever was happening to his heart.

"No." Max caught her wrist before the healing magic could touch him.

Rosalia froze, startled by the fear she saw in his eyes.

"Don’t bring your magic anywhere near my heart," Max warned. He did not know what might happen if her power came into contact with the System Creator’s influence, and he refused to risk it turning against her.

"You can barely breathe," Rosalia protested as the green light faded from her palm.

"I know." Max kept hold of her wrist, refusing to release her until the magic had completely disappeared. "But I won’t gamble with your life."

"Then stop trying to speak." She placed both hands against his face, forcing him to look at her. Fear had replaced the calmness in her eyes. "Whatever you are trying to tell us can wait. You don’t have to do this now."

"No," Max repeated, his voice weak but unwavering. "That is exactly what it wants."

The two women fell silent.

"What wants this?" Agnia asked, tightening her arm around him.

Max raised his head, determination burning within his eyes despite the pain tearing through his chest.

Only one thought remained in his mind.

If the System Creator truly wanted to silence him, then she would have to kill him here and now.

He had spent too long allowing an unseen being to shape his life, take away his emotions, and decide which truths he was permitted to speak. This time, Max was willing to gamble everything, even his own life, for the chance to tear apart the chains wrapped around him.

"I came from a world without magic," Max forced out, each word making the pressure around his heart tighten. "I was an ordinary man there, weaker than almost anyone in this world."

Neither Rosalia nor Agnia interrupted him now. Rosalia’s hands trembled against his face, while Agnia held him so tightly that her nails pressed into his arm.

"I almost died in that world," Max continued, his voice roughening as the image of his mother driving a knife into his body flashed before his eyes. "Then something found me. It brought me here, placed the System inside me, and gave me the power that allowed me to become what I am now."

Rosalia’s lips parted, but no words came out. Agnia stared at him in disbelief, though the agony on his face made it impossible to dismiss his confession.

"The one who created it is still watching me," Max continued. "She has been guiding my path, changing me whenever it suited her and deciding what I am allowed to become."

Rosalia’s eyes widened as the truth settled over her. "And she is doing this to you now because you are telling us?"

"Yes."

The pressure became unbearable. Max could feel his heartbeat struggling against the force crushing it, each beat weaker than the last, yet he refused to lower his head.

"So kill me if you want," he growled, no longer speaking to Rosalia or Agnia, but to the presence he knew was listening. "Crush my heart and take back every fragment of power you ever gave me."

Darkness stirred around his body as the crystals throughout the chamber flickered, their colors shifting violently in response to his rage. Rosalia held his face while Agnia kept him upright, both women refusing to release him even as the entire room trembled beneath the force escaping his body.

"But while I still breathe, I will speak." Max forced himself upright and stared into the empty space ahead of him. "You will never silence me again."
