The passage space continued shrinking.

The walls did not visibly draw closer. It was the distances between the three of them that disappeared. With every pulse of the route, Kael felt Liza move closer, Seraphine grow farther away, and then all their positions reversed without anyone moving their feet. Fragments of memories crossed the void, showing faces, corridors, and cities for less than a second before being crushed by the current of blood.

Seraphine looked at the sword pointed toward her chest.

"You believe being the first makes you real."

"No." Kael tightened his grip on her wrist. "Being me does."

The woman smiled.

"Your name exists in other people’s memories. I carry thousands of them. To the world, I am more Kael Scarlet than you could ever be."

Liza opened her hand. The blood scattered throughout the route stopped flowing and formed threads around her fingers.

"That is the stupidest thing I have heard today."

Seraphine looked toward the queen.

"You recognize me."

"I recognize the blood used to assemble your body."

"His eyes. His posture. His mana."

"A child can wear an adult’s clothes too."

Seraphine’s expression changed. Kael felt her technique activate. There was no displacement. The destination was pulled.

Liza appeared in front of her, with one hand already trapped between the woman’s fingers. Seraphine tried to pierce the queen’s chest with her other palm, but Kael twisted the wrist he was holding and diverted her body. The strike hit a memory floating behind them. The image of a city shattered, scattering voices throughout the corridor.

"She can pull people without contact," Kael said.

Liza closed her fingers. The blood attached to Seraphine’s arm tightened like a chain.

"Then I will stop her from choosing."

Seraphine pulled again.

This time, she brought the sword.

The weapon left Kael’s hand and appeared between her fingers. Seraphine swung the blade toward his neck. Kael lowered his body, stepped inside its reach, and struck her elbow. He tore the sword back from her grasp and drove his knee into her abdomen.

The woman was thrown several meters, but the route corrected the distance and made her reappear almost in the same place.

"You know how I hold a sword," Kael said. "You do not know why I choose a strike."

"Reasons can be copied."

"Then why did you try to cut my neck? Because it was efficient. Not because it was what I would do."

Seraphine raised her hands. White lines touched the memories scattered along the path, and hundreds of scenes opened around them. Kael facing soldiers, protecting Elizabeth, standing before the witches’ throne, wounded, furious, or covered in blood.

In every one, Seraphine occupied his place.

The route reacted. Kael’s face lost definition, while her body gained weight and color. Liza advanced, but a wall of memories appeared between them.

"She is replacing the reference," Liza said.

"Not only mine."

Kael saw Elizabeth holding Seraphine’s hand, Sylphie embracing her, and Umbra emerging from her shadow. The woman did not only want his name. She wanted the relationships that sustained it.

Seraphine opened her arms.

"You are a limited version of a name that grew beyond you."

Kael released the sword and turned toward Liza.

"What was the first thing you taught me when we began training speed?"

"That you stepped like an animal chasing food."

"And the second?"

"That speed amplifies experience. It also amplifies stupidity, in your case."

Kael’s body regained definition. The scenes flickered. Seraphine tried to access that conversation, but it did not exist among the stolen memories. It was small, personal, and irrelevant to any project.

But it belonged to the two of them.

"You carry the way people see me," Kael said. "Not what we lived through when no one was watching."

Liza smiled.

"And even if you had every memory, you would still choose the wrong answers."

She closed her fist. The threads of blood pierced the false images and attached themselves to Seraphine’s channels. The woman tried to pull another destination, but Liza had already occupied her blood.

Kael recovered the sword.

"Now."

Liza pulled. Seraphine was forced to spread her arms. Kael advanced and drove the blade beneath her collarbone, precisely where the white lines converged. He did not pierce her heart. He twisted the sword and opened the structure protecting the name.

Thousands of memories escaped Seraphine’s body. Some passed through Kael, showing him the fear, admiration, and hatred of people he had never met. The woman tried to close the wound with regeneration, but Liza blocked the blood.

Seraphine pulled the point where the sword entered. The metal disappeared and appeared on the other side of the route. Kael lost the weapon, but kept his hand inside the opening before it could close.

The white lines wrapped around his fingers.

He felt Seraphine’s name from within. It was not a word, but a structure formed from hundreds of memories, the bodily map created by the Cartographer, and a small seed at the center. That seed did not belong to Kael, the Well, or the vessels.

It predated everything.

When he touched it, Kael saw a woman trapped inside a crystal coffin. Silver hair surrounded her body. A man with a hidden face placed a hand on the lid and promised that she would return when they found a name capable of sustaining her.

Seraphine grabbed his arm.

"Do not touch that."

"So this part is yours."

"It is the only part."

Kael understood. The organization had found an incomplete consciousness and built an identity around it. The memories concerning him were support. The copied technique was a tool. The name existed to prevent the seed from unraveling.

"You did not want to be me."

"I needed to exist."

The answer did not come with arrogance.

It came with fear.

The route continued collapsing. Kael could destroy the seed and end everything there. But that part had not chosen the victims or the body.

"How many memories inside you still belong to other people?"

"All of them."

"Can you release them?"

"Without them, I disappear."

"That was not what I asked."

Seraphine looked directly at him.

"Yes."

Kael removed his hand from the opening and held her face.

"Then you will release them."

Liza frowned.

"She tried to steal your name."

"Because they told her it was the only way to preserve her own."

Seraphine released a broken laugh.

"You believe you can save anything."

"No. But I can stop it from continuing to be a problem."

Kael placed his palm over the center of the white lines and sent scarlet mana into the structure. Instead of burning the name, he separated the currents. The stolen memories were pushed toward the surface. The seed remained at the center.

"Liza, I need an exit to the Witch Realm. Only for the memories."

"I do not have a reference on the other side."

"Elizabeth."

The queen understood. Her daughter still carried Kael’s blood and remained prepared as an anchor. Liza cut her own palm and drew a circle inside the passage.

"If I open this, the Cradle may try to cross."

"It no longer exists."

"You hope."

"I am almost certain."

A red opening appeared in the air. Kael felt Elizabeth on the other side, distant, but recognizing his name. The connection stabilized the path.

Seraphine looked at him.

"Some memories no longer have bodies."

"They will be preserved separately."

"And me?"

The first currents left her chest and crossed the opening.

"You keep what is truly yours."

The process became violent. Hundreds of lines left Seraphine, carrying faces, voices, and abilities that did not belong to her. Her hair darkened at the roots. The golden lines of Celestial Step vanished one after another.

Seraphine fell to her knees, and Kael caught her.

Liza closed her fingers around the circle.

"Thirty seconds."

"That is enough."

"You always say that."

"Usually it is."

The final memory left. Seraphine lost the red and golden eyes. When she opened them again, both were gray. What remained was a weakened woman inside a body that no longer knew how to use most of its own abilities.

The opening began to close. Kael pushed Seraphine toward Liza.

"Take her."

"And you?"

"I am going to retrieve my sword."

Liza looked toward the weapon on the other side of the passage.

"Leave it."

"I like that sword."

The route ruptured behind him. A void without a destination advanced. Kael used Celestial Step, felt his own mana within the metal, and appeared beside the weapon. He grabbed the hilt, but the distance to Liza no longer existed in any stable form.

She extended an arm.

"Kael!"

He searched for her blood.

Celestial Step answered one final time.

Kael crossed the passage at the instant Liza closed the circle. All three were thrown out of the route and fell onto the floor of the containment room in the Witch Realm.

Liza landed on her feet.

Kael rolled across the floor with Seraphine in his arms and struck the base of the table where Amelia was organizing the seals.

Sylphie ran inside. She looked at Kael on the floor, Seraphine on top of him, and Liza standing in perfect balance.

"Explain."

Kael raised one hand.

"The Cradle is finished."

"Explain the part where she is on top of you."

"I was pushed," Seraphine said, without enough strength to move away.

Liza crossed her arms.

"He refused to abandon the sword."

Amelia looked at the weapon still held in his hand.

"Of course."

Kael sat up with difficulty.

"We removed the stolen memories. The original seed remained inside the body."

Elion’s voice came through the crystal.

"We received four hundred and eleven fragments. Some found compatible vessels. Others are being isolated."

Sylphie checked Kael’s channels.

"And Seraphine?"

"She no longer possesses Celestial Step, the Direction Eye, or the name constructed by the Cradle."

Seraphine looked at her own hands.

"Seraphine is still my name."

Kael turned his face toward her.

"Then keep it."

Violet entered accompanied by guards. Behind her, the first creation was being transported inside the capsule, without any awareness remaining in its eyes.

"The arrival point was destroyed," Violet reported. "The creature lost all activity when the memories crossed over."

Amelia closed the map.

"The passage also collapsed. There is no sign of the sanctuary, the chamber, or secondary vessels."

Kael stood with Sylphie’s help.

"Then it is over."

This time, no one corrected him.

The Well had been destroyed. Nemet had been closed. The Dead Paths were being dismantled. The Cradle, its vessels, and the three anchors had disappeared. The stolen consciousnesses were protected, and Seraphine no longer carried anything belonging to the victims.

The guards surrounded her.

"What happens to me?" she asked.

"You will be examined, interrogated, and kept under containment."

"Afterward?"

Kael thought for a moment.

"Then you decide who you are without using stolen parts."

"You will regret this."

"Probably."

Umbra appeared behind her.

"If you try anything, I will eat you."

Seraphine looked toward the shadow.

"Is she serious?"

"Unfortunately."

The guards took her away. Sylphie waited until the door closed and tightened the bandage over Kael’s chest.

"Now you are going to rest."

"I agree. I solved the entire problem."

Amelia picked up another folder.

"Not the entire problem. We found an inscription inside the first creation. An authorization record for activating the Cradle."

She showed them a symbol drawn in black: a crown divided in half by a vertical line.

Kael recognized the shape from the memories he had seen inside Seraphine. The man before the crystal coffin wore the same symbol on a ring.

"Who authorized it?"

Amelia turned the page. Beneath the symbol was only a title.

The Archivist.

Kael continued staring at the name. The organization had lost three projects, hundreds of agents, its routes, and the creature it had intended to create. Somewhere, the person who had preserved Seraphine before the Cradle was even constructed had just learned that she was still alive.

Kael closed the folder.

"Now I rest."

Sylphie stared at him.

"For how long?"

"Until Amelia finishes the next report."

Amelia had already started writing.

Kael made a face.

"That was a trap."
