Chapter 2208: Chapter 1444: The Warm-Hearted Head Nurse
Yang Ping sat in the office, leaning back in his chair to rest, as the tea on the desk emitted steam, its fragrant aroma spreading around.
The number of people at the institute is increasing, and so are the laboratories. Space has really become insufficient, and the new Sanbo Research Center won’t be completed for two or three years. The buildings in Sanbo Hospital have long been fully occupied, with each department expanding its space by splitting wards.
Dean Xia is personally overseeing the construction of the new research institute. He wants this research center to be a centennial project rather than a rushed piece of work, so the progress seems a bit slow—it takes time to do a good job.
Yang Ping roughly calculated in his mind that the institute’s team has already expanded significantly. Tang Shun, as the laboratory director, manages the Cell Laboratory. Lu Xiaolu is primarily responsible for the Tumor Laboratory, with Jiang Jitong and others responsible for the research on vaccine promoters. Manstein studies the original cell repair of spinal cord injuries, while Weber focuses on the promotion of stem cells in the original cell repair of the spinal cord. There are also some laboratories formed freely by young doctors. The eight-story research institute is now packed, but generally, these matters don’t concern Yang Ping, as Tang Shun handles them. However, where will Tang Shun find space?
At this moment, someone knocked on the door, and Yang Ping immediately opened his eyes: "Come in!"
The door was not closed, and it was Tang Shun who pushed the door open and entered.
"Professor!"
"Sit!"
"Dean Xia just came to find me. He said the newly completed administrative building is for us to use as laboratories and asked us what laboratories we plan to set up inside so he can proceed with the renovations," said Tang Shun as he sat down.
"The newly completed administrative building?"
Yang Ping immediately sat up straight. He hadn’t paid attention to the new building construction progress at Sanbo Hospital for a long time. He only knew that the hospital’s rapid development had led to extreme ward space shortages, leaving no room for expansion, and so Dean Xia had no choice but to allocate the entire administrative building as a new ward area.
The newly established Cardiac Surgery Department, expanded Plastic Surgery Department, split Hepatobiliary Surgery, Pancreas Surgery, Gastrointestinal Surgery, and reorganized Neurosurgery, among others, were all settled in the administrative building. Without this allocated administrative building, these departments would have truly had nowhere to expand, being firmly stuck in place.
Since then, Dean Xia and the administrative staff have all lived in prefab houses, probably for over a year. Many administrative staff were reluctant to move at that time; Dean Xia said those unwilling to move should transfer to pig farming, as the Animal Experiment Lab indeed had many pigs and lacked caretakers. This scared everyone, making the move smooth in the end.
"What about Dean Xia and the others?" Yang Ping instantly remembered that they were still living in prefab houses.
Tang Shun laughed: "They’re still staying in the prefab houses. Dean Xia said, actually, the prefab conditions aren’t bad. Since living there, he’s changed his habit of frequently slamming the desk forcefully."
"Alright then, you plan this. See which laboratories need to move to the new building or what new labs should be set up there." Yang Ping really didn’t want to waste time on these matters.
In fact, Tang Shun didn’t intend to ask for his opinion; he was just informing Professor Yang of the situation.
"How are Manstein and Weber adapting?" Yang Ping remembered to ask, as these two had come to China for research, and he hadn’t had much time to inquire.
"Adapting well! Manstein has no issues; it’s not his first time here. Weber seems to be getting along fine too. He’s rented a villa in the suburbs. I asked Li Yingtong to teach his wife online shopping. Now, his wife loves online shopping, and Weber said she’s bought so much stuff that their house is full. Just the flower seeds have filled up one storage room." Tang Shun took the tea Yang Ping handed over.
"Haha!" Yang Ping couldn’t help but laugh.
It seems that any woman, once in our Great China, will develop a liking for online shopping, regardless of nationality or ethnicity.
"When is your wife due to give birth? I should give you paternity leave." Mentioning Li Yingtong reminded Yang Ping that she was pregnant.
Tang Shun paused briefly, then laughed, "Professor, you’ve really been a man of many forgetfulness lately. My wife Li Yingtong has already given birth, and my son can already crawl on the floor."
"Oh!"
Yang Ping’s face turned red with embarrassment. He hadn’t paid any attention to his most capable assistant’s life.
"Didn’t you hold a hundred-day banquet?" Yang Ping asked again.
Tang Shun shook his head: "Recently, there have been breakthroughs in several projects. Everyone’s busy, so there’s no time for a banquet; we’re not doing it this time."
"How’s Zhaxi?" Yang Ping, reminded of one person, thought of many others.
Zhaxi is a doctor from Tibet, one of the talents trained nationwide by Sanbo Research Institute and Sanbo Hospital. Yang Ping had personally mentored him, but after breakthroughs in the projects, he devoted himself entirely to research, leaving little time for clinical mentoring. Therefore, Zhaxi was passed on to be mentored by Song Zimo.
"Zhaxi, is he in the clinical line?"
"Yes, in clinical as a training doctor."
"Then I’m not sure, should I ask now?"
"Forget it, I’ll ask myself."
Yang Ping waved his hand.
Lately, he’s been channeling most of his energy into research, particularly on unifying the three-dimensional gene guidance theory with stem cell theory. He hasn’t been attentive to Zhaxi, who came from Tibet. Yang Ping realized he’s no longer able to personally mentor a clinical doctor, as when training Li Min, he hadn’t yet shifted his focus to research.
