Chapter 2209: Chapter 1444: Warm-hearted Head Nurse (Part 2)
Thinking about Zhaxi, Yang Ping remembered the case at the Provincial Hall, it was probably solved by now, though he didn’t want to dwell on it. At the time, it was just meant to hone Zhaxi’s logical thinking skills.
"Professor, do you see any other issues, aside from the new administrative building matter? Then I’ll take my leave, Dean Xia and the others will have to bear with the inconvenience. There’s nothing we can do; we’re out of space, and several returning Chinese scholars need the laboratory." Tang Shun stood up to leave, surrounded by a heap of tasks. If he weren’t a time management master, he’d be overwhelmed.
Yang Ping waved his hand: "Go ahead, close the door for me... actually, never mind, leave it open. I’ll take a walk."
After Tang Shun left, Yang Ping visited the emergency center; it had been a while since he’d taken a look around here. Song Zimo, Xu Zhiliang, Xia Shu... they had all branched out and it had been some time since their departure.
"Professor?"
Song Zimo spotted Yang Ping from afar and immediately ran over to greet him, with Zhaxi following behind.
"Professor Yang!" Zhaxi was equally surprised; Professor Yang had found time to visit today.
"How is it going, Zhaxi? How is your learning progressing?" Yang Ping asked with concern.
Song Zimo said, "He’s advancing quickly, mastering basic skills thoroughly, and even performing some surgeries independently."
Zhaxi simply blushed, knowing he wasn’t naturally gifted, but Teacher Song was patient and accommodating, helping him progress so swiftly without the pressure.
"That’s good, keep learning from your Teacher Song. He’s a versatile surgeon who excels in all kinds of surgeries." Yang Ping patted Zhaxi’s shoulder.
"Why aren’t you in surgery today? Fewer patients today?" Yang Ping glanced at the emergency hall outside.
Song Zimo replied, "There are actually too many patients to handle, but I’ve taken a page from your book, leaving surgeries to others unless they’re high-risk or challenging, then I’ll step in. Usually, I oversee things, focusing on talent development. When everyone’s skilled, there’s no need for me to micro-manage."
Impressive, Song Zimo had learned the essence.
"I’m getting married this National Day and letting you know well in advance; not only do you need to attend, but also prepare a big red packet!" Song Zimo informed Yang Ping.
"Tang Fei?" Yang Ping was quite surprised that Song Zimo finally achieved his aim.
"Who else could it be?"
"Finally succeeded, that red packet has to be grand; don’t worry, it’ll be substantial."
"Don’t forget! But relax, I won’t let you forget, you’ll receive a formal invitation soon, and I’ll remind you periodically."
"Alright, alright, don’t worry, I won’t forget. I’m heading to the Neurosurgery and Cardiac Surgery Departments; you guys carry on."
Yang Ping dared not stay too long; the emergency department wasn’t a place for idle chat, functioning like a battlefield round-the-clock. However, Song Zimo managed quite well, having nurtured several capable talents and was able to spare time for small talk.
"Chat a bit more; no worries, they’ll call if needed, though they won’t usually. I remember you said a successful Department Director has time for a tea break, unlike those busy surgeons without end who are either workaholics or lack proficient team members." Song Zimo held Yang Ping, not letting him go.
Yang Ping hadn’t visited the emergency department for ages; now it wasn’t easy to let him leave without catching up on the latest info from the institute.
Song Zimo, being from the institute himself, was unaware of Yang Ping’s busy schedule, sure to host some significant breakthroughs lately.
"I didn’t exactly say that, speaking like that would offend many department directors. The follow-up should be—I said directors constantly performing surgeries may either be exceptionally responsible, fearing other doctors’ incompetence, or setting strict criteria requiring thirty-plus years of experience before qualifying as chief surgeons." Yang Ping clarified his comment.
Song Zimo couldn’t help but laugh, as the professor joked without a smile, his tone akin to discussing academic topics, though listeners couldn’t resist chuckling.
"I selected several from the previous batch of eight-year doctoral programs, advancing quickly. Many can independently lead surgeries now—genuine eight-year programs..." Song Zimo reiterated, lest the professor misunderstood.
Just then, a nurse came over with a message; Cui Bo in operating room number two requested Director Song’s presence.
"Let’s chat another time." Song Zimo hurriedly took Zhaxi along.
This was unlike Song Zimo before; previously, he wasn’t so dilatory, thought Yang Ping as he strolled over to Neurosurgery.
Only a duty doctor with two students was present in Neurosurgery, the doctor’s office empty. Recognizing Yang Ping, the duty doctor respectfully stood up: "Professor Yang!"
"Please, sit; pay no attention to me!" Yang Ping surveyed the office.
The duty doctor said, "Director Xu and other doctors are all in the operating room, performing five brainstem tumor resections today."
Five? Xu Zhiliang was doing well, and the volume of brainstem tumor surgeries was high—truly the crown jewel of Neurosurgery, representing its pinnacle.
Since Xu Zhiliang wasn’t present, visiting Cardiac Surgery seemed prudent. Besides, chatting with Xu Zhiliang drained energy with his irritable manner, risking fury-inflicted hematemesis.
Wandering over, Yang Ping arrived at the Cardiac Surgery Department, headed by Li Zehui, with Xia Shu as deputy. Their collaboration was seamless, aligned with Anzhen Fuwai.
Similar to Neurosurgery, everyone apart from the duty personnel was in the operating room, prompting Yang Ping to head there.
It had been a long time since Yang Ping visited the operating room at Sanbo Hospital; donning the scrubs, a nurse recognized him immediately.
"Professor Yang?"
Long absent from the surgical center, seeing Professor Yang here was novel.
"Professor Yang?" Head Nurse Jiang, on her rounds, also recognized Yang Ping.
"Is Xiao Su and the child okay? Now that the nation has relaxed policies, encouraging births, you should have second and third children. More kids would mean..."
The head nurse was unchanged, always encouraging youth. Now that Yang Ping transformed from Xiao Yang to Professor Yang, she reiterated similar comments.
Nodding like a pecking chicken.
"While you’re still young, have a few more—three’s not too many, even four or five can be manageable..."
"When you have time, bring Xiao Su and Xiao Shu over for a visit; she misses seeing everyone."
"However, I’ve seen her strolling near the hospital several times, pushing Xiao Shu, seemingly waiting for your shift to end."
Chattering continuously, Head Nurse Jiang departed only when called away by someone.
Finally able to skedaddle, Yang Ping headed to the operating room. First checking the neurosurgery operating room through a small window, brainstem surgery seemed underway, as Xu Zhiliang intensely focused on the microscope.
Better not disturb him; brainstem surgery necessitated meticulous execution. Heading to Cardiac Surgery might be suitable.
In Cardiac Surgery, coronary artery bypass grafting was in process as Yang Ping entered. Xia Shu was amidst sharing leisure jokes with nurses, and upon spotting Yang Ping, everyone greeted him.
"Continue, I’m merely strolling around..."
Standing by the lightbox, Yang Ping examined the patient’s heart coronary angiography images; the surgery posed a challenge, but Xia Shu’s skill level seemed fine.
"Professor Yang?"
An experienced nurse queried.
Yang Ping turned: "Hm?"
"Did you just happen to meet Head Nurse Jiang at the entrance?" the nurse asked.
"Indeed!" Yang Ping wondered the relevance.
The nurse chuckled: "Did she say you ought to have more children—a greater number is better?"
"Yes!"
The nurse added: "She’d often advise me previously, to have only one child, one is optimal!"
"Really?"
"Absolutely, see in our operating room, the older guys often receive her counsel to have one child only; yet now the young ones get urged to marry and have kids. Already having one, she’ll push for a second. I noticed her conversing with you at the door earlier, instantly guessing she’d be recommending a second child."
Her prediction was uncanny, as the head nurse’s talk centered solely around the idea of having more kids.
