In some corners, Nine Pockmarks found a large amount of puffed snacks and similar food. He happily brought them over to Scarface.

"Boss! Look!"

Scarface’s eyes lit up. These items had probably been washed down from the second floor as the floodwaters receded.

The supplies in the underground supermarket had clearly already been taken by other survivors. Not a single useful item had been left behind.

But if those people had emptied the supermarket, why hadn’t they searched the upper floors?

Was there something wrong with the upper floors? Or had those people, like them, noticed the sign pointing to the underground supermarket and headed straight there?

Regardless of the reason, as long as the supplies on the upper floors were still there, their trip wouldn’t be in vain.

After searching the first floor and collecting a large amount of food that seemed to have been washed out of the nearby shops, the five of them gathered together, divided up what they had found, and then headed toward the second floor.

"Boss! There’s some here too!"

The group searched the second floor again and found plenty of well-packaged food inside the shops, which immediately lifted their spirits.

Sure enough, their luck wasn’t bad.

They happily continued up the escalator to the third floor, each of them imagining that since the upper floors hadn’t been flooded, all the good supplies should still be there.

But after taking only a few steps up the escalator, Nine Pockmarks suddenly froze.

"Big brother... look! Look!"

He pointed toward a certain direction with trembling hands.

Scarface was about to curse him for making a fuss, but when he subconsciously looked in the direction Nine Pockmarks was pointing, his pupils suddenly contracted.

What did they see?

Was that... a zombie?

They had already reached the middle of the escalator, and through the dim shadows ahead, they could make out something standing there.

Nine Pockmarks looked around nervously. When his gaze shifted toward the third floor, he suddenly saw rows of feet standing there.

A chill immediately ran down his spine.

Scarface swallowed hard and cautiously climbed a few more steps. Then he leaned slightly over the glass railing and looked toward the third floor.

Zombies.

They were really zombies!

All the zombies that had mysteriously disappeared from the surrounding area had gathered on the third floor of this shopping mall!

No wonder. No wonder the survivors who had emptied the underground supermarket hadn’t searched the second floor or the floors above.

So this was the reason!

However, Scarface had already been frightened by the zombies. He didn’t realize that those survivors had emptied the supermarket before the torrential rain even began.

"Boss, what do we do? Should we leave?"

The bespectacled man tugged nervously at Scarface’s protective suit. He wanted to leave immediately.

He had only glanced around the third floor, but that was enough to make his scalp tingle. There were zombies everywhere!

If those zombies noticed them, they would be torn apart alive!

However, Scarface didn’t answer.

Instead, he stared at the zombies around them, his expression gradually becoming strange.

They had been talking quite loudly, and several zombies near the top of the escalator were only a short distance away.

Yet none of them had reacted.

"Wait a minute."

Scarface’s eyes narrowed.

"These zombies don’t seem to have noticed us."

His courage grew a little.

The bespectacled man was stunned. Then, like Scarface, he cautiously leaned forward and observed the zombies on the third floor.

Indeed.

The zombies showed no reaction whatsoever, even though they were standing so close together.

Could it be... that these zombies couldn’t move?

The others gradually realized what was happening as well and waited cautiously for Scarface’s next order.

A strange smile slowly appeared on Scarface’s face.

It was a good thing these zombies weren’t moving.

That meant they could continue searching for supplies.

The timid starve while the bold feast!

"Let’s go up and see what’s going on."

Scarface was the first to move.

He slowly walked forward until he was less than a meter away from one of the zombies.

The zombie remained completely motionless.

The monkey gathered his courage and stepped forward as well. Soon, he noticed something unusual.

The zombie’s eyes were closed.

No wonder it hadn’t moved.

It was sleeping right there!

He immediately told Scarface and the others what he had discovered. When they looked closely, they found that it was indeed true.

All of these zombies had their eyes closed and were standing completely still.

The group finally relaxed.

They could now search the nearby shops with greater confidence.

Scarface’s main objective was still the supplies. He had no intention of wasting time dealing with these motionless zombies.

Although zombies could be exchanged for points, supplies were far more important to them right now.

The group quickly moved around the zombies and dispersed to search the nearby shops.

However, none of them dared to touch the zombies.

They were worried that these motionless zombies might actually be some kind of trap.

Although everyone felt that something was wrong, their desire for supplies ultimately outweighed their fear.

They clung to that tiny sliver of hope.

But while they were distracted, one of the zombies slowly opened its eyes.

It had already smelled the food nearby.

Food...

So much food.

It was hungry.

So hungry.

Why was its energy being consumed so quickly?

Oh.

It seemed that it had evolved.

It had reached Level Two.

It was time to eat and replenish its energy.

Gradually, more zombies opened their eyes.

And one after another, they noticed the uninvited guests who had entered the third floor.

The monkey had gathered a pile of packaged food and was about to take it back to Scarface when he suddenly felt something was wrong.

Why did he feel as though someone was watching him?

The monkey abruptly turned his head.

Apart from the zombies standing motionlessly with their eyes closed, there was no one around.

"Am I imagining things?"

He scratched his head and continued walking.

But the chill creeping up his spine refused to disappear.

He hadn’t imagined it.

Someone really was watching him.

No...

Not someone.

A zombie.

The monkey swallowed hard and began silently retreating toward the escalator, carefully watching the zombies around him.

He was wrong.

He had been completely wrong.

He shouldn’t have listened to the boss and the others and come upstairs to search for supplies.

There were too many zombies here!

Once they woke up, how were they supposed to escape?

Wasn’t this just like walking straight into a trap?

No, it was worse.

They were practically lambs being led to the slaughter.

The monkey was now in a panic, inwardly cursing himself for being so foolish.

Those were zombies!

What was the point of regretting it now?

He had to escape!

These zombies were definitely awake, but they hadn’t fully realized what was happening yet.

As long as he was careful and escaped in time, he could still survive.

As for the boss and the others...

The monkey’s heart hardened.

He wanted to live.

If he warned the others, he might lose his chance to escape as well.

So... he was sorry.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to help.

He believed that the boss and the others would understand.

After all, when disaster struck, everyone could only fend for themselves.

The monkey finally retreated to the vicinity of the escalator.

Just as he was about to escape—

A sudden shout rang out.
