Swordsmanship Coach: Kill with One Slash

Chapter 204: Chapter 148: Surprise Attack (2)

"But aren’t you and your brother just ordinary people?"

"My strength..."

"...isn’t enough to protect you both properly."

Finally hearing this, it dawned on Su Xing what his uncle had been worried about all along. No wonder the moment he returned, he wanted to take him and Su Yu to hide deep in the mountains to escape the coming disaster.

It wasn’t that his uncle thought humanity was doomed to fail.

He just believed that the great war would bring countless casualties, and he didn’t want Su Xing or Su Yu to be among them—to be injured, or even killed.

"Uncle, a lot has happened since you left. Some of it wasn’t easy to explain over the phone, but I think it’s time I told you."

Su Xing’s tone softened,

but his right hand suddenly clenched.

The Black Sword materialized in his palm, and at the same instant, a shockwave erupted, blasting his seated uncle back several meters before he could stop himself.

"Uncle."

"Yu and I aren’t ordinary people anymore."

Su Xing briefly explained his and Su Yu’s circumstances. His uncle was expressionless at first, but the more he listened, the more perilous the tales became, until he finally gasped in shock.

"So..."

"So much happened in the years I was away."

His uncle couldn’t help but sigh.

"You’re right."

"When the sky falls, there are taller people to hold it up. We just need to find ways to increase our own strength so we can protect ourselves in the battles to come. I was looking at things the wrong way before."

"Xing."

"How do you all differentiate between Extraordinary powers these days?"

"I’d also like to know what domain my own power belongs to, and what level it’s at."

His uncle asked earnestly.

He had acquired his power by accident within the Celestial Human Tomb.

Other than Su Xing,

he had never spoken of it to another soul.

As a result, he had no idea what level his strength was at, or what type of Extraordinary Being he would be classified as in the current system.

"Well, it’s complicated."

"We currently divide the category of Extraordinary Beings into four broad classes: Martial Artists, Sequencers, Qi Cultivators—also known as Spiritualists—and the never-before-seen Confucian Scholars."

"The realms are divided into ten tiers. Tier One is an ordinary person who has just touched the threshold of the Extraordinary. Tier Two is an Extraordinary Being who possesses some measure of Extraordinary power... and so on."

"It’s not something you can tell just by looking."

"Uncle, try releasing your aura."

Su Xing said, shaking his head.

"Um, how do I release my aura?"

His uncle asked, completely at a loss.

He had stumbled upon his Extraordinary power by accident; he hadn’t trained hard for it, nor was he born with it. Consequently, his control over it was poor, and he often ended up accidentally injuring himself.

"..."

Su Xing was speechless for a moment.

He had no idea how to explain it.

For Extraordinary Beings like him, releasing their aura and using their abilities was practically second nature, something etched into their very being. Being suddenly asked to teach something so fundamental, Su Xing was at a loss for words.

"Alright."

"Uncle, follow me."

"Let’s find somewhere more open."

If his uncle couldn’t release his aura, there was a simpler method: have him unleash his Extraordinary power directly.

The only problem was that his uncle was clearly a novice in this area and probably had poor control over his internal power. He absolutely couldn’t let him unleash it in the Sword Hall, or the place would be demolished.

"Alright."

His uncle didn’t object.

He followed Su Xing out of the Sword Hall and up to the same mountaintop where Su Xing had previously tested his sword techniques.

As Su Xing’s power had grown,

he hadn’t come here to test his strength in a long, long time.

An all-out attack from him

would likely cause a massive disturbance.

Drawing unnecessary trouble was something he preferred to avoid.

His uncle, however, had no such concerns.

"This is the place."

"Uncle, try hitting these rocks with your strongest attack. Let me see what you can do."

"At the rocks?"

His uncle took in Su Xing’s words and glanced around the mountaintop. Only then did he notice it was pockmarked with craters, and some of the boulders showed clean fractures, as if they had been forcefully shattered.

’The strength of this nephew of mine...’

His uncle thought to himself, ’He must have done this a long time ago. If so, his strength now must be unfathomable... He might even be almost as strong as me.’

Gathering his thoughts,

his uncle nodded. "An all-out attack? Alright, no problem."

As soon as the words left his mouth,

his uncle suddenly produced a bamboo flute from his pocket. A red string was tied around it, and it looked ancient.

Then,

a somewhat mournful melody drifted from it.

At first, Su Xing wasn’t sure what kind of technique this was, but he soon realized something was amiss.

As the melody spread, it wasn’t long before cracks began to spiderweb across all the surrounding rocks. Then, they completely disintegrated!

Even the mountain beneath Su Xing’s feet suddenly split open with a massive fissure, looking as if it would collapse at any moment.

Meanwhile, a current of dark red energy began to slowly coalesce around his uncle.

’What is this?’

Su Xing stared at his uncle for a long time, completely unable to identify which type of Extraordinary power this energy belonged to.

To be more precise,

this Extraordinary power didn’t belong to any type he had ever witnessed.

’Could it be... a Confucian Scholar?’

Su Xing guessed.

But he quickly dismissed the idea.

In order to better fight his enemies,

Su Xing had read books on the four great Extraordinary systems. While the descriptions of Confucian Scholars were all from ancient records, they clearly didn’t match what his uncle was doing.

The music stopped.

His uncle approached and asked,

"Well? Could you tell what system that was?"

"Uncle, I have a question."

"This ability of yours... does it use music to channel power? Like that dark red energy from just now."

Su Xing asked.

In truth, Su Xing had many questions.

For instance, as far as he knew, his uncle had nothing to do with playing flutes or singing; he was just a single, tech-oriented guy. He had no idea where his uncle could have learned such a skill. But Su Xing knew he had to focus on the important questions for now.

"More or less,"

his uncle said casually.

Seeing the thoughtful look on Su Xing’s face, he smiled and said,

"You still have that same thoughtful expression."

"I know you want to ask how I learned this ability."

"Xing, I won’t lie to you."

"I learned it from someone in the Celestial Human Tomb."

"There was someone else in the Celestial Human Tomb?"

Su Xing asked, astonished.

Based on his uncle’s descriptions, he had always assumed the Celestial Human Tomb was just a massive graveyard, completely devoid of living people.

’No, that’s not right...’

’A tomb should have a Tomb Guardian.’

Realizing this, Su Xing ventured a guess,

"Was he a guardian of the tomb?"

"Sort of,"

his uncle said noncommittally.

"I don’t know what his role was, where he came from, or who he was. But he was definitely the only living person there.

"I lived with him for several years, and... before his life came to an end, he taught me all of this."

"But I haven’t been practicing for long, so I’m probably not that strong."

"He died?"

Su Xing asked, puzzled. "How long did he live?"

The Celestial Human Tomb seemed to have existed for an unknowable amount of time. A Tomb Guardian for such a place should have had an exceptionally long life.

’At least longer than a Spirit Lord,’ he thought.

"He couldn’t remember."

"But I could tell he was from the same era as the ones buried there,"

his uncle said.

"So..."

"The cultivation method he taught you must be thousands of years old."

"No wonder I couldn’t recognize it."

Su Xing said, a look of realization on his face.

"Although I can’t determine which system you belong to, Uncle, judging by the energy level alone... you’re at least a master at Tier Four Peak."

"Tier Four Peak..."

His uncle fell silent for a moment.

Just then,

a blast of energy suddenly shot toward them from the distance!

Su Xing’s reaction was instantaneous. He stepped forward, shielding his uncle as he drew his sword and slashed!
