Chapter 247: Chapter 169: Centaur (2)

As far as he knew, humans were supposed to be extremely rare in this world. It was a shame that such a woman had been twisted into this ghastly form.

’Time to keep moving.’

Su Xing thought to himself.

He hadn’t gone far when another living corpse appeared before him. Human ones were a minority, after all; this one, like the others before it, was a spirit beast.

This spirit beast could also move freely,

but its legs were crippled. Two of its legs were completely limp, dragging uselessly on the ground as it walked. Perhaps from being dragged for so long, they had been worn down to gleaming white bone.

However,

because of this,

the spirit beast’s movements were exceptionally slow. It was utterly defenseless against Su Xing’s attack; the Sparrow Sword only had to drift lazily over to take its head.

The system’s absorption page popped up once again.

This was further proof that Su Xing’s

trip to the Spirit Realm was proving to be a fruitful one.

Su Xing went on to kill a few more straggling living corpses. After he cleared them out, he walked for a long time through the area without seeing any further sign of spirit beasts.

Until

Su Xing encountered the last three.

Strictly speaking, it wasn’t three living corpses, but a combination of two living corpses and one spirit beast.

His expression grew serious as he faced these three. He was no longer as nonchalant as he had been with the other living corpses.

The reason for this was twofold:

Su Xing always made it a habit to be one hundred and twenty percent cautious when facing the unknown, and these three were different from the others. They didn’t wander aimlessly; they stuck together no matter where they went.

This meant

Su Xing was facing a one-on-three fight.

More importantly,

Su Xing could sense that the centaur between the two living corpses—the one with the upper body of a woman—was incredibly powerful.

At the very least,

she had to be Sixth-Order.

He would have to fight her to gauge her true strength.

Sixth-Order.

Even if Su Xing had killed more Sixth-Order beings than he could count on one hand, they were still a full realm above him. He would not underestimate his opponent.

Aside from the centaur,

the two living corpses flanking her also caught Su Xing’s attention.

Because

they both appeared to be some kind of boar-like spirit beast.

They were covered in blubber and exceptionally fat, looking to weigh at least three or four hundred pounds. From a distance, they looked like giant, fleshy tanks.

Not only that,

but the centaur seemed to be able to control the two living corpses.

As Su Xing remained hidden,

he quickly discovered the real secret to how the trio managed to stick so closely together.

Ahead lay a deserted street.

No matter where they went, the three stayed in a tight formation. The female centaur always remained in the center, constantly shielded by the two fleshy tanks in a safe position.

’I must be right.’

Su Xing thought.

’Those two living corpses must be under the centaur’s control. So... she’s the mastermind pulling the strings. I wonder what she’s trying to accomplish by turning spirit beasts into living corpses.’

At this thought,

Su Xing knew he couldn’t afford to be reckless.

If it were just three ordinary living corpses, or even three Sixth-Order opponents, Su Xing would have dared to reveal himself and kill them all.

But,

in this unfamiliar environment,

the centaur was clearly on guard against him.

Su Xing worried she might have a trump card.

’Kill them.

I have to kill them,

but I have to do it carefully.’

Compared to living corpses and spirit beasts, humanity’s greatest advantage was their minds—quicker and more agile, allowing them to easily figure out their next move.

Meanwhile,

the trio continued to wander. The centaur kept glancing around, her brows knitted tightly together. It seemed the situation here had far exceeded her expectations.

Indeed,

her purpose for coming here was to protect the living corpses.

But along the way, the only ones still functional were the two beside her. The rest had been reduced to dust, which made her deeply uneasy.

What was most unsettling

was that she still hadn’t found a trace of the one responsible.

Suddenly,

a loud CLANG echoed from a dilapidated building nearby.

"Someone’s there?!"

The centaur’s heart leaped.

Without a second thought, she commanded the two living corpses beside her to charge toward the source of the sound.

The abandoned Luocheng was eerily quiet.

The sound Su Xing had created was perfectly audible to the trio.

With the centaur’s command, the two living corpses became frenzied, as if they were on steroids. Their slow, stiff gait vanished. They opened their mouths to let out strange roars and charged toward the source of the noise.

However,

contrary to the fresh blood they expected to find,

there was nothing there. Aside from some dilapidated wooden structures, the place was completely empty.

Just as the two living corpses rushed in and began searching, a loud BANG from another direction drew their attention again.

The two living corpses

charged off once more, this time toward the new sound.

The living corpse in the lead was slightly smaller than the other, but it was still massive. A quadruped standing nearly two meters tall, it was undeniably powerful.

It just seemed unimpressive

when compared to its companion.

However,

the second location Su Xing had chosen was narrow and sturdy. With a roar, the living corpse charged in, followed by the sickening, ear-piercing sound of tearing flesh.

Its hide was caught on the walls on either side

and instantly ripped apart under the force of its own momentum.

Immediately after,

a black longsword flashed, instantly severing the living corpse’s head and ending its second life.

After dispatching the living corpse, Su Xing casually retrieved a beast core from its head and sighed inwardly, thinking:

’The centaur really is intelligent.’

In truth,

compared to the two living corpses,

Su Xing had wanted to deal with the centaur more.

But,

things rarely go exactly as planned. Killing one of the living corpses had weakened her defenses, so it wasn’t a total loss.

Time was short.

Having exposed his position, Su Xing’s instinct was to move again, but the centaur seemed to have seized the opportunity, with no intention of letting him escape.

Wielding a greatsword, she instantly cleaved a large hole through the corpse blocking the entrance and charged through.

If it’s a fight she wanted, it’s a fight she would get!

Su Xing’s previous actions were merely to break her defenses. Since she was charging in for a one-on-one fight, well, Su Xing had never backed down from a challenge.

Su Xing was faster. Though the centaur had made the first move, it was Su Xing’s Black Sword that arrived first.

However,

the next moment

caught Su Xing completely by surprise.

Facing his descending sword,

the female centaur reacted with incredible speed. She tilted her head, dodging the blade, then swung her own greatsword directly at him.

Indeed,

Su Xing had miscalculated.

The speed of his sword had been a decisive advantage in nearly every battle. He never expected to miss. Because of this, he had no time to react to her counterattack, a strike as fast as lightning.

BANG!

However,

it wasn’t the "man dies as the blade falls" scene the centaur had imagined. The blade did fall, but Su Xing didn’t die. He stood there, completely unharmed.

"!!!"

The centaur instantly realized what had happened.

A faint white light shimmered on Su Xing’s skin, firmly blocking her strike. The force of the impact made her hands, which were gripping the greatsword, begin to tremble uncontrollably.

"..."

Su Xing was stunned for a moment, then the corners of his mouth slowly curled into a smile.

"You’ve had your turn. I believe it’s mine now, isn’t it?"
