System Distributing Villain: Guide to Conquering Heroines' Hearts!
Chapter 99 | Shall We?The auctioneer’s words echoed through the hall and for a few seconds, not a single person spoke a word.
Then, as reality caught up to them, a woman at the nearest table dropped her wine glass. It shattered on the marble floor and nobody even looked at it.
"She bought the building." A man said out loud like he needed to hear the words to believe them. "She actually bought the whole building."
"O-over a metal ball. She bought a building over a metal ball that we were all laughing at five minutes ago."
"She didn’t even try to outbid him. She bought the whole damn store. What do you even call that?"
"That’s a different species of rich. I’m a billionaire, by the way."
"I’ve been coming to these galas for five years. Never seen anything like this."
"I take back everything I said about that item being a scam. If Emma Evans wants it that badly, maybe we’re the idiots."
"Maybe she just wants to spoil her man."
"Now that you mention it, it does look like the guy ran out of money."
"So this is what it looks like when the richest woman in Tempest Bay spoils her man. The rest of us are buying bags and necklaces. She’s buying skyscrapers."
Aria was staring at Emma with her mouth hanging open. She had known this woman for years and thought nothing could surprise her anymore.
She was dead wrong.
’WHAT KIND OF PROMISE DID HE MAKE?! This building must cost billions of rollards!’ Aria couldn’t wrap her head around it.
This was her friend who calculated every deal down to the last digit and never came out on the losing end.
’There’s no way she did this just to spoil him. Whatever he offered must be worth more than a building to her.’
Dante looked at the metallic case sitting in front of him and then at Emma who was calmly adjusting her necklace like she hadn’t just shaken the entire room.
’This woman is genuinely terrifying.’ He thought with a complicated smile. ’She just spent more money in five minutes than I would have made in a hundred lifetimes at my old job.’
’And all of that just to get bullied by me later?’ He fought the urge to laugh out loud. He was starting to see some serious masochist potential in this woman.
Though that side seemed to be reserved exclusively for him since there wasn’t a single hint of it in the novel.
"You didn’t have to go that far." He said with a helpless smile.
"What do you mean? It’s just a building. I could buy you the whole city if you want." Emma said with a smile blooming on her face.
It was obviously a joke but nobody in the hall was laughing. Everyone was staring at her with sweat forming on their foreheads. After what they just witnessed, they couldn’t tell if she was joking or not.
Seeing that nobody got the humor, she coughed and added. "I was just kidding. Don’t think too much about it. It was a good investment anyway. I needed a new venue for next year’s annual meeting."
Dante had nothing to say. He just looked at her with a warmth in his eyes
Seeing her willing to go this far for him made something stir in his chest. He really wanted to hurry up and make this woman fall for him too.
’I’m going to spoil you so much, Emma. And bully you even harder for the rest of your life.’
On the other hand, Marcus was still standing with his hand in the air where the auctioneer’s arm used to be.
His brain couldn’t keep up with what just happened. He had the highest bid and he was about to win, but this woman made one phone call and erased the entire game.
"This is fucking bullshit!" He slammed his hand on the nearest table, sending glasses rattling across the surface. "You can’t just buy the auction house in the middle of a—"
"Guards." Emma didn’t raise her voice or even turn her head. She just wanted the nuisance gone.
A dozen men in black suits appeared from the sides of the hall within seconds, moving toward Marcus with polite smiles that clearly said "Sir, please don’t make this harder than it needs to be."
Marcus saw them approaching and his face twisted.
Being dragged out of a gala in front of three hundred people was worse than losing any bid.
It would be a death sentence for his reputation.
"Don’t bother." He straightened his suit and held up his hand. "I’ll leave on my own."
He turned and started walking toward the exit when Dante’s voice came from behind.
"Marcus."
He stopped but didn’t turn around.
"Next time, make sure to bring your daddy with you." Dante paused and the smile was clear in his voice. "Or at least bring his card."
"Don’t worry, Marcus." Aria jumped in immediately, covering her mouth with her hand. "I’m sure there are plenty of women out there who would love you for your personality. Oh wait."
"Pfft—"
Someone at a nearby table let out a muffled laugh before catching themselves. A few others in the crowd were struggling to keep it together.
Marcus’s fists trembled at his sides and his nails dug into his palms hard enough to draw blood.
’Dante Ackerman.’ His teeth were grinding so hard his jaw ached. ’You think hiding behind a woman makes you brave? Enjoy your time while it lasts.’
’Because I will make sure to ruin your life.’
He walked straight out of the hall without looking back. The heavy doors closed behind him and the tension in the room lifted like a weight off everyone’s chest.
While the rest of the hall was still processing what they just witnessed, Aria grabbed Emma by the arm and yanked her close.
"Okay, spill." Her eyes were practically on fire. "What did he whisper to you before the bid?"
"Nothing important." Emma said, the blush on her cheeks betraying every word.
"Nothing important? You’re telling me that with THAT face and I’m supposed to believe you?" Aria tightened her grip. "Tell me right now or I’m not letting go."
"It’s between me and him." Emma pried her arm free and smoothed out her sleeve. "Drop it, Aria."
"Emma, I have been your best friend for—"
"Still no."
Aria stared at her for a long moment before letting out a dramatic sigh and slumping back into her chair.
"Dicks before chicks. Is that how it is?"
Emma choked and her face went red from a completely different kind of embarrassment. "You bitch...!"
She wanted to argue back but the words wouldn’t come out of her mouth. Because Aria wasn’t exactly wrong and that was the most annoying part.
Emma turned away from her and her eyes landed on Dante. He was examining the metal ball with a satisfied expression on his face.
And just like that, his words crept back into her head uninvited.
’For one full day, you’ll be my boss. I’ll do whatever you say.’
Her heart skipped a beat and she quickly looked away before anyone caught her expression.
’One day where Dante does whatever I tell him to...’ Her brain went to places that would make her collegemates proud. Certain scenes from those trashy romance novels came floating back on their own.
’I need to plan this out.’ A dangerous glint settled in her eyes. ’There’s no way I’m wasting even a minute of that day.’

As Emma was busy planning her day with Dante, the lights in the hall dimmed without warning.
She snapped out of it and looked around. The atmosphere had shifted entirely.
The harsh white lights were gone, replaced by a warm golden glow that softened everything in the room. The orchestra had moved on from dinner music to something slower.
A spotlight swept across the center of the hall, landing on a dance floor that had been cleared while everyone was too busy talking about a certain someone buying a building.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the dance floor is now open."
Couples started getting up from their tables one by one. Emma watched them go, still lost in her thoughts, when a pink screen popped in front of her eyes.
[Final Task: Dance With Him]
[Description: You dragged him here as your partner. You held his hand, you chased away the dog, and you proved to everyone who he belongs to. Now end the night properly. Make it a night neither of you will forget.]
’A dance?’ Emma’s heart quickened as she read the description. She was still staring at the screen when something came through it, dissolving it into mist.
A hand.
She looked up.
Dante was standing in front of her with his hand reached out and a smile on his face. The golden spotlight caught one side of his jaw and his eyes were looking at her with gentleness.
"Shall we?"
Ba-thump!
Emma looked at his hand, then up at his face, then back at his hand.
"What are you hesitating for? Take his hand." Aria said with an encouraging smile.
Emma nodded at her and took a breath. She took his hand and stood up.
’Don’t blush. Whatever you do, do NOT blush right now.’
She was trying to calm herself down but her heart had no intention of slowing. It had all happened too fast.
She spent years convincing herself to stop expecting anything from this man and now everything she ever wanted was happening in a single night.
Everything felt like a dream.
As they walked toward the dance floor, Dante glanced at her and almost laughed. He could practically see the steam coming off her head.
"Relax." He leaned in slightly.
And then, as if he could read her mind, he added softly.
"I’m sorry, Emma." His fingers tightened around hers. "I made you wait long enough."
