System Mission: Seduce the Final Boss [BL]
Chapter 188: Tomorrow is the big dayAs for Myles’ wishes, the plans Blake had in mind for everyone would have to be put on hold until school was over.
There was no way around it.
Blake sighed, scratching the back of his head as he looked around his room.
After another two days at the base, he was finally back home.
With Myles, of course.
And apparently, he had decided that Blake’s recovery period (which was almost over) also meant he wasn’t allowed to do practically anything.
Cooking? It had to be done by Myles.
Cleaning? Also by Myles.
Laundry? Of course Myles.
Anything that involved carrying something remotely heavy? Absolutely Myles!
At this point, Blake was starting to suspect that if he so much as looked at a broom for too long, Myles would confiscate it.
It was evening now. They had already eaten dinner, and Myles was still finishing up the dishes in the kitchen.
Blake, meanwhile, was sitting on the floor near the television, organizing the collection of video games.
It was the most Myles had allowed him to do.
And, admittedly, Blake didn’t mind.
He could walk normally now.
Well, almost.
He could even run if he wanted to.
His legs still felt slightly weaker than before, but the physical problem had mostly passed.
What remained was more psychological than anything else.
After spending days restrained and then having his ankles injured, his body had gotten used to being careful.
He was slowly getting over it.
So, for now, sorting games was perfectly acceptable.
There were a ridiculous number of them, and they were all mixed together.
Blake picked up one case.
The Rebirth of Athena.
He raised an eyebrow, then picked up another.
The Office Worker Became the Most Powerful Demon Lord.
Blake stared at it.
’Wow.’
He slowly smiled, these were complete slop.
Absolutely shameless, formulaic nonsense.
And yet, they had been Blake’s.
’He was really into this stuff, huh... then again, there is a large variety!’
Blake flipped one of the cases around and read the synopsis.
He could practically imagine him years ago getting excited over every ridiculous plot point, he chuckled quietly.
’Okay well, who am I to judge anyway! I wasn’t really into games but, they don’t even sound that bad.’
He put the game carefully into its box.
A few minutes later, Myles came into the room.
He had dried his hands and was wiping them with a kitchen towel.
"You’re still organizing them."
"Yep."
Blake picked up another game.
"I found some embarrassing ones."
Myles looked at the pile.
"I know."
"Oh."
Blake immediately became slightly embarrassed. Why did he agree about that? How evil!
"Right."
He walked past him, picked up a discarded case from the floor, and put it into the correct pile.
Blake looked up at him.
"Myles?"
"Hm?"
"Are you signing up for university?"
Myles continued organizing the room while answering.
"Yes."
He picked up another case.
"I will choose system engineering."
Blake raised an eyebrow.
"Why that specifically?"
"It’s commonly chosen."
"Ah."
That made sense. Myles had to maintain his ordinary image somehow.
And if there was one thing he was good at, it was being unremarkable when he wanted to be.
Blake picked up another game.
"Would you have chosen something else if you didn’t have to look average?"
"No."
Blake looked at him.
"Really?"
"Yes."
Myles carried the last few games over to the shelf.
Blake tilted his head.
"Should I choose system engineering too?"
"Your grades are like mine. It shouldn’t be difficult."
Blake hummed, honestly, it wasn’t really his thing. He found it pretty boring, but still, he had to be average too.
Myles walked toward the kitchen again.
"You can choose something else."
Blake looked up.
"What?"
"It doesn’t make a difference."
Blake remained silent for a moment.
In his previous life, he had wanted to study business.
It wasn’t exactly a grand dream, but it was something he’d wanted to pursue, although now he doesn’t really remember why.
Now his life was tangled up with an alien conspiracy, AL-TECH, altered DNA, a bastard system, a group of supposed villains, and a man who apparently wanted to destroy the world.
Following his passions didn’t exactly seem like a priority.
Still...
"Is there any choice that would make me look less average, in your opinion? I should at least avoid that much."
Myles looked over from the kitchen.
"No."
He began putting the remaining dishes away.
"I chose system engineering because it was the most average option. The others aren’t unusual."
Blake nodded.
"Then I’ll probably do business."
He smiled, however, his lips trembled slightly, for some reason.
Myles noticed, but didn’t comment.
Instead, he closed the cabinet.
Blake looked toward the clock. It was getting late.
He scratched his cheek.
"Are you staying tonight?"
"Yes."
Blake immediately sighed in relief.
"Good."
He hadn’t realized how much he wanted to hear that.
The gifts Myles had bought him were now scattered throughout the house.
The phone sat on the table.
The scarf was hanging over a chair.
The little cat plushie was sitting on his desk.
The notebook and pens were neatly arranged nearby.
It was strange.
His house looked more like his own now, there were reminders of Myles everywhere.
He wasn’t sure how he felt about that, since it wasn’t his room up until some month ago.
He liked it quite much.
He got up and walked toward his room.
His steps were steady now.
He didn’t even need the cane.
When he reached his bed, he sat down and stretched his legs.
Myles entered shortly afterward.
Without saying much, he lay down beside him, resting on his back.
Blake turned onto his side, facing Myles, keeping his eyes open.
Myles didn’t move as minutes passed, while the other remained awake.
Eventually, Myles turned his head toward him.
"Why aren’t you sleeping?"
Blake smiled faintly.
"It’s been two days since we slept on the same day and since I found out you don’t sleep at night, so, you know..."
Blake moved slightly closer.
"I want to stay awake with you for a while."
Myles’ expression didn’t change.
"You don’t have to."
Blake leaned forward and pressed a kiss against his forehead, smiling.
"I know, I know!"
Myles’ hand moved into the other’s hair.
"You can sleep comfortably."
Blake laughed quietly.
"I don’t want you to be lonely. Come on."
"I’m not lonely."
Myles’ fingers continued stroking his hair.
"You’re next to me regardless of whether you’re awake, so it doesn’t matter."
Blake sighed, placing his hand over Myles’ hand.
"If I’m too tired, I’ll fall asleep anyway. So don’t worry too much."
Myles hummed.
Neither of them spoke afterward.
They simply stared at each other.
Just the two of them.
Eventually, Blake’s eyelids began getting heavier.
He tried to fight it a little, he really did, but exhaustion and anxiety won.
His breathing gradually slowed, his hand remained over Myles’.
And then he fell asleep.
***
Myles continued looking at him.
Blake’s face was peaceful now.
It was almost strange.
Earlier, even if he didn’t seem to notice, his heartbeat had been slightly erratic.
Not because of physical exhaustion, but omething else he couldn’t quite describe...
Myles could tell a great deal from a person’s heartbeat.
Not their exact thoughts.
He couldn’t simply listen to someone’s chest and know what they were thinking.
But emotions left traces.
Guilt.
Anger.
Grief.
Regret.
Blake had carried several of those emotions tonight.
Especially guilt and regret.
Myles didn’t know what it was about, but he didn’t want to ask too suddenly.
People sleepwalk because of many reasons, but he was sure that Blake was under so much stress and anxiety that his body could only handle it that way.
His mind was normally rational, pretty calm really.
He could analyze situations without allowing unnecessary emotions to interfere.
That had always been enough.
Yet Blake made that difficult.
He made him stop from asking directly what was wrong. Trying to understand him created something resembling anxiety, because he didn’t want him to be too pained.
Slowly, carefully, Myles pulled him closer.
Blake shifted instinctively in his sleep, his face settling against his chest, right above the heart.
Myles’ arm wrapped around him.
Blake didn’t wake, his breathing remaining even.
Myles lowered his gaze.
’Whatever you’re feeling now, you’ve already made your decision. All the things you said, you decided to say them with your own mouth, and now you...’
Myles gently rested his chin against Blake’s hair.
He knew that Blake’s presence had become something his mind accounted for almost automatically.
He knew there was no going back.
Whatever Blake had changed in him, it had already happened.
Myles pressed his lips on top of Blake’s head, the room’s temperature dropping.
’Belong with me, no matter what happens in the future.’
Even if he continued toward the same end he had always intended, even if his goal remained unchanged, Blake was now part of the equation.
And there was no way to remove him from it, not anymore.
