Blake’s eyes darted toward the hallway.

Asher and Anthony were still somewhere ahead.

Then he looked back to Myles, his brain was moving much faster than his body.

Blake immediately grabbed his hand.

"Come on."

Myles glanced down at their hands.

"Where?"

"Bathroom."

"Why?"

"Just come on!"

Blake started walking quickly, pulling Myles along with him, and he didn’t resist.

That was probably the only reason Blake managed to keep his composure. If Myles had questioned him or refused to move, he was pretty sure he would’ve started screaming right there in the hallway.

They reached the bathroom.

Blake pushed the door open, checked that nobody was inside, and hurried into one of the stalls.

Myles followed, as he closed the door.

He then stood there, staring at him.

The silence lasted for a few seconds.

Blake finally whispered, "What did you mean earlier?"

"I meant what I said."

"Yeah, sure, but what exactly do you know about them?"

Blake looked toward the stall door before lowering his voice even further.

"And whisper, please!"

Myles’ expression remained unchanged as he leaned closer.

"I know Asher is Trail-X."

Blake’s hands immediately went to his head.

"Woah."

He stared at Myles.

"What the fuck..."

His voice was barely audible.

Myles tilted his head.

"Are you surprised?"

"Of course I’m surprised! You never mentioned anything about knowing his identity!"

"You never asked."

Blake rubbed his forehead.

His thoughts were going everywhere.

He had always considered the possibility that Myles might know about Asher.

It wasn’t impossible, actually, it made sense that way.

Blake had been the connection between them. He was the one who’d introduced them. He’d brought Myles into situations where Asher was present.

If Myles had been paying attention, there were probably enough little inconsistencies to put things together.

But still, Myles had never once hinted at it, he had just continued behaving normally.

’Maybe I underestimated him.’

Blake slowly lowered his hands.

’Or maybe I judged him too much based on how he behaved around him.’

Myles was a genius.

And his ability to maintain that completely unreadable expression was frankly ridiculous.

Blake had spent so much time worrying about accidentally revealing something to him that he’d apparently forgotten Myles could simply figure things out himself.

"When did you figure it out?"

"I knew before he even transferred to this school."

"Um, when exactly!"

"I don’t consider it important enough to remember the exact moment. It isn’t particularly relevant to me."

"But he’s Trail-X!"

"I know."

"The guy who’s constantly on the news, taking down anyone against AL-TECH!"

"I know."

Blake pointed at him.

"You’re way too calm."

Myles looked at his finger, then at Blake.

"I don’t see why I should care."

It was frustrating, but then again, that was exactly why he had survived for so long.

Blake exhaled slowly.

"Okay."

He tried to calm himself.

Myles waited as Blake looked down.

"I would’ve expected you to at least say something."

"Would that have changed anything?"

"No."

"Then there was no reason."

Blake’s shoulders dropped.

"What do you think about Asher?"

"Nothing in particular."

"Nothing?"

"No."

"What about Anthony?"

"Same answer."

Blake stared.

"You really don’t care?"

"No."

That answer actually made Blake relax.

Whatever Myles knew, at least he didn’t seem interested in doing anything about it.

Blake stepped forward and wrapped his arms around him.

After all, even if Myles claimed he didn’t care, it still didn’t to soothe him a little, right?

"Whatever the case, don’t worry about him, okay?"

Myles remained still.

"I never worried."

"Woah..."

He leaned his forehead against Myles’ chest for a moment.

’That was pretty scary.’

Myles’ hand rested lightly against his back.

"We should go eat."

Blake lifted his head.

"Oh right!"

Myles reached for the stall door.

Blake caught his sleeve.

"Wait."

Myles looked back.

"Do you think I should talk to them?"

"No, there’s no reason."

"But they’re my friends."

"That doesn’t mean you have to speak to them immediately."

Blake looked down.

He had been thinking about the situation like he had to solve everything today.

He didn’t, he could just... exist.

Blake sighed.

"Okay. Are you sure you’re not worried?"

"No."

"Not even a little?"

"No."

"Even though you know who they are?"

"No."

Blake stared at him through the mirror.

They left the bathroom.

The hallway was still crowded, though most students were heading toward the cafeteria.

Blake instinctively looked around.

There was no Asher or Anthony.

"You don’t want to run into them?"

Blake grimaced.

"Well... not really."

"But you can’t avoid them forever."

"I know."

Blake scratched the back of his head.

"That’s the problem."

He looked down at his shoes.

"I can’t exactly pretend they don’t exist. If I suddenly start avoiding them after disappearing for days, it’ll look suspicious."

"It doesn’t have to."

"Huh?"

"You don’t have to avoid them."

Blake looked at him.

"You just said I shouldn’t worry."

"You shouldn’t."

Myles continued walking.

"If you don’t want to speak with them today, don’t."

Blake hurried after him.

"But I don’t want to look suspicious."

"You’re not doing anything suspicious."

"Um, it think it does!"

Myles stopped.

Blake almost walked into him.

Myles looked down.

"Even if you were suspicious, there is nothing incriminating you."

Blake stared.

"...Right."

Myles started walking again.

"You haven’t done anything."

Blake’s expression softened.

"Well..."

Technically, that wasn’t completely true.

He’d done plenty.

But none of it was something Asher and Anthony could reasonably connect to him.

At least, he hoped so.

He caught up and pulled slightly at Myles’ sleeve.

"For today, unless we run into them..."

Myles looked at him.

"I’d rather avoid both. I’ll stick to you all day."

Blake hooked his arm around Myles’.

"There."

Myles looked down at their arms.

"You’re my shield."

"Alright."

They continued toward the cafeteria.

Blake stayed close enough that their shoulders occasionally brushed.

For the first time since seeing Asher and Anthony, he felt a little less nervous.

At least he wasn’t dealing with this alone.

Still, as they approached the cafeteria entrance, Blake glanced ahead.

He couldn’t see either of them.

’Good.’

Maybe he could actually get through lunch without having to explain where he’d been.

Myles looked down at him.

Blake smiled innocently.

"What?"

"Nothing."

Myles looked forward again.

Blake narrowed his eyes.

’He knows I’m still super nervous, but whatever...’

For now, he would take the easy route.

Will that actually work for long?
