Candy wrinkled her nose, which was rosy from the cold.
"Isn’t it normal for kids to want to have a snowball fight?"
Casually sticking his shovel into the pile of snow, Mo Jingchun glanced at the defiant Candy and said in a calm tone:
"Well said!"
Just as Candy thought her brother was convinced by her reasoning, his next words completely deflated her.
"Only little kids have snowball fights; you’re already a mature first-grader."
"So... what does a snowball fight have to do with you?"
"At your age, the biggest connection you have is with homework."
Candy didn’t want to say another word, fearing her brother would assign her homework if she did.
Although first-grade homework wasn’t challenging for her, her brother clearly knew that too.
So, every time he assigned homework, it was always Chinese, endlessly copying texts.
This was practically torture for her.
Darn it! Trapped by her brother again.
Pouting, Candy grudgingly hummed and walked inside with the poise of a victorious white goose.
Mo Jingchun shook his head, a slight smile appearing on his lips.
"This little squirt still has a lot to learn if she wants to outsmart her big brother."
Zero, who was watching the whole show, couldn’t eat, but he would definitely grab some sunflower seeds to enjoy the drama.
Walking inside and feeling the warm air from the indoor heater, Mo Jingchun took off his down jacket.
Looking at Candy, who was sitting on the sofa looking upset, Mo Jingchun asked with a smile:
"What do you want for breakfast?"
Candy raised an eyebrow, pondering if she could actually choose when eating with her brother. Did the sun rise from the west today?
"I want some steamed buns."
Mo Jingchun glanced at the demanding Candy and said, unapologetically, "You think you’re still three? Only noodles available, take it or leave it."
Candy was so annoyed by her brother that her teeth itched, and yet she could do nothing about it.
She couldn’t beat him, couldn’t argue with him, it was so frustrating!
"No options, yet you’re letting me choose?!!"
Mo Jingchun chuckled, "Isn’t life all about rituals? This is all for your own good."
"Big brother, can’t we skip the rituals?"
"Nope."
For some reason, the more her brother downplayed it, the more annoyed Candy felt.
But to her surprise, after watching just one episode of a cartoon, she smelled the aroma of steamed buns.
The rich scent unmistakably belonged to steamed buns.
Narrowing her eyes, Candy happily shook her head from side to side.
"As expected, big brother still loves Guoguo the most."
Half an hour later, Mo Jingchun and Candy were sitting at the dining table, eating steaming buns, while Zero was on the sofa watching a martial arts movie.
At some point, all three looked towards the direction of the elevator.
Saw Zhou Yaling, with disheveled hair in thick pajamas, yawning as she stepped out of the elevator.
Mo Jingchun looked at Zhou Yaling in surprise and asked, "You’re up before eight, a miracle."
"It’s snowing heavily today, I thought you’d sleep until noon for lunch."
Zhou Yaling wrinkled her nose and said discontentedly, "Not waking me for steamed buns, heartless."
No need to ask, Candy knew her sister was talking about her.
"Sister, didn’t I wake you? I clearly tried to wake you up first thing in the morning, it was you who insisted on sleeping a bit longer."
With Candy’s reminder, Zhou Yaling really had no words to retort.
Truth is, Candy did wake her up earlier.
But honestly, it was to get her to build a snowman, have a snowball fight.
Oh well, adults shouldn’t quibble with kids.
Glancing at the righteous Candy, Zhou Yaling headed straight for the kitchen.
Fortunately, there were still plenty of steamed buns.
Taking two trays of buns, Zhou Yaling sat at the dining table and said in wonder at the pickled veggies between her brother and Guoguo:
"I thought we ran out of pickled veggies."
"How could we? There’s a box in the cupboard." Candy looked at her sister, puzzled.
Such a big box of pickled veggies, did she choose to ignore it?
At this point, Mo Jingchun drank some porridge and said, "I asked Zero to get a box from the canteen, no biggie."
Eating the tasty steamed buns, Zhou Yaling casually inquired:
"Is it still snowing outside?"
"Yes, big snowflakes."
Candy eagerly answered first, hoping to drag her sister into a snowball fight too.
Glancing at the lively Candy, the little one obediently lowered her head to sip porridge.
"Didn’t the weather forecast say it would snow heavily today and tomorrow, so it’s normal it’s still snowing."
Mo Jingchun guessed, given how fast it snowed before, the yard cleared in the morning is probably covered again with a thick layer now.
"Hey, big brother, don’t you think it’s particularly cold this year?"
"Just an illusion, it’s like this every year at this time."
"And if my memory serves me right, last year’s first snow came even earlier than this year."
"But you’re right about one thing, the cold might last longer this year."
Zhou Yaling curiously asked, "Why?"
"It’s because of late spring! Every year, late spring is still quite cold until the Qingming Festival."
"I remember a few times it snowed during Qingming Festival."
Hearing this, Zhou Yaling looked blankly and said:
"How come I don’t remember that?"
Mo Jingchun’s mouth twitched as he said, "Qingming Festival, how many times have you been to the Zhou Family’s ancestral tomb, how could you remember anything."
"Hahaha, sister, you’re not as good as me. Guoguo goes with brother every year to pay respect during Qingming Festival."
"We always set off lots of fireworks during the festival, oh, and we have to kowtow too."
"Right, brother."
Mo Jingchun gave a thumbs up and said with a smile, "That’s right, my Candy is the best. Next year, make sure to offer a few more kowtows to our ancestors, so they bless my Candy with good health and safety."
"Mm-hmm!" Candy believed it, nodding seriously:
"Then I’ll kowtow a few more times, so the ancestors also bless brother and sister."
Children truly bring the greatest joy.
Patting Candy’s head, Mo Jingchun said happily:
"Good kid."
Zhou Yaling had to admit, when it came to flattering, she lagged far behind Candy.
With that flattering act, not to mention her brother, even the kind aunt resting in peace couldn’t resist.
Perhaps the little one’s sweet words worked, for after breakfast, seeing the yard turned white again, she couldn’t resist pulling Zero and her sister outside for a snowball fight.
This time, Mo Jingchun did not stop her.
Even when her hands turned red from cold, the little one thoroughly enjoyed herself.
Seeing the snowman on the opposite roof, Candy laughed out loud, and threw a snowball with all her might.
Unfortunately, Candy didn’t have the strength to throw it so far and high.
But for Hawkeye on higher ground, it was different.
Hawkeye chuckled and casually molded a snowball, tossing it back at Candy.
