Tempting Him to Lose Control

Chapter 115: Just a Legal Cohabitation Relationship

Chapter 115: Chapter 115: Just a Legal Cohabitation Relationship

Downstairs from the OCHH offices.

Claire Kendall unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car, holding a thick stack of design blueprints. "Thank you, Dr. Warren. I’ll head up now."

A hand with well-defined knuckles pressed down on the document folder.

Miles Warren took the items from her hands. "I’ll walk you in."

"You don’t have to trouble yourself..."

He got out, closed the door, and took the documents in one hand. With the other, he assertively took her hand, and they went up the elevator and into the OCHH office space.

Miles Warren leaned down, his lips close to her ear, the gesture both natural and intimate.

"Where should I put these?"

Claire Kendall pointed to a desk in the very back.

The employees, excited and curious, all turned to stare at the pair, whispering among themselves.

"The bar was too dark yesterday. Dr. Warren looks even more handsome today."

"Dr. Warren went out of his way to bring Ms. Kendall upstairs and carry her things. He’s so doting and thoughtful!"

"Did you see the little hickey on his neck? Our Ms. Kendall is so wild."

"I saw it, I saw it!"

...

Claire Kendall’s ears burned. She glanced at Miles Warren out of the corner of her eye and only then noticed that the usually impeccably dressed man had the top two buttons of his white shirt undone.

On his neck, and on his partially visible chest, were the marks from her biting and scratching when she couldn’t take it anymore last night.

’So damn suggestive!’

Claire Kendall coughed awkwardly a couple of times. She took two steps forward to stand in front of Miles Warren and said in a low voice, "You must be busy at the hospital. You should get going."

"Claire, have you had breakfast? I brought you some bao..."

Ian Rhodes walked into the office, his clear, youthful voice coming to an abrupt halt when he saw Miles Warren.

"Dr. Warren, good morning. Welcome to the place where Claire and I work together."

The atmosphere in the office grew subtle. A few sharp-eyed employees had already scented a lover’s battlefield and were secretly exchanging glances.

Miles Warren’s expression didn’t change as he glanced at the food bag in Ian Rhodes’s hand.

"She’s already eaten breakfast. I made it myself, so you needn’t trouble yourself, Mr. Rhodes."

He raised a hand, seemingly to casually adjust his cuff, but the wedding ring on his ring finger was blindingly conspicuous.

The employees all gasped, their expressions collectively losing control.

Ian Rhodes, of course, saw it too.

His fingers, holding the bag, clenched abruptly, his knuckles turning white as he struggled to maintain the smile on his face.

Miles Warren continued, "And there will be no need to trouble Mr. Rhodes for breakfast in the future, either."

He looked around the room and gave a slight nod. "I understand from Claire that everyone will be very busy for the next little while."

"I’ve rented the office space next door and converted it into a small kitchen and drink bar. It will provide three meals a day and beverages. Everyone is welcome to use it anytime, all free of charge."

After a second of silence, the office erupted.

"Oh my God? We don’t have to pay for food anymore?"

"A private kitchen and drink bar just for OCHH? Not even international design firms have perks like this!"

"I’m so happy I could just melt."

"Ms. Kendall’s husband is the absolute best in the world! We’re all benefiting from our connection to her!"

The cheers grew louder and louder. A few employees were already eager to go "check out the new spot" next door.

Claire Kendall froze for a moment, then turned her head to look at Miles Warren, her eyes filled with bewilderment.

"When did you rent the office next door? How come I didn’t know?"

"When you decided to come back."

His casual words made the employees look like they were ’totally shipping it’ all over again.

Miles Warren raised his hand, gently tucking a stray strand of hair behind Claire Kendall’s ear. He leaned down, his lips nearing her forehead—

Unused to public displays of affection, Claire Kendall instinctively turned her head to avoid him.

"Um, you should really go. Don’t be late for work."

Miles Warren’s gesture missed its mark. His pupils contracted slightly, and his thin lips pressed together, but he said calmly, "Alright. I’ll come pick you up tonight, then."

"No need. I have plans with Sharon Carter this afternoon. I’ll go straight home after."

-

「That evening, in a coffee shop.」

"Claire, why are you so distracted? Is the problem at OCHH that serious?"

Claire Kendall shook her head. "No, it’s..."

Sharon Carter cut straight to the point. "It’s Miles Warren, isn’t it?"

She nodded, her voice a bit heavy. "I just can’t seem to figure him out."

"He makes breakfast, helps me brush my hair, drives me to the office, and even set up that kitchen. But when I asked him if he likes me, he rejected me outright."

Sharon Carter stared at Claire Kendall for a long moment before saying seriously,

"Claire, have you fallen in love with Miles Warren?"

Claire Kendall looked up, stunned. She was silent for a while before she managed to say, "After wasting so much time on Jacob Sinclair, I feel like I’ve lost the ability to love anyone."

"But I’m married to him now. I want to build a good life with him."

Sharon Carter retorted, "Then why are you agonizing over whether he likes you or not?"

"Claire, you need to be clear-headed. Miles Warren is good to you because he’s a decent person who fulfills his duties as a husband. That’s completely different from whether he loves you or not. Don’t forget, he has the one he never got over."

Sharon Carter’s gaze instinctively fell on Claire Kendall’s wedding ring.

"Isn’t your situation great right now? He dotes on you and spoils you, and you can focus on rebuilding Nati. You’re roommates with benefits. Isn’t that awesome?"

Claire Kendall’s long lashes drooped. She nodded, but the sour feeling in her heart wouldn’t go away.

「Regency Gardens.」

Miles Warren wasn’t home. Claire Kendall changed into her slippers and went straight into the bathroom.

After drying off and changing into a slip dress, she pushed open the door and walked out.

Miles Warren was sitting on the bed, which made her jump.

"Why were you so quiet?"

"Come here."

Confused, Claire Kendall had just started to walk over when he grabbed her by the waist, pulled her in, and she fell into his lap.

Fresh from her shower, she exuded a warm, fragrant scent. The low neckline of her slip dress left the marks from last night on full display.

Miles Warren’s gaze slid from her neck down to her waist. His Adam’s apple bobbed, his breathing grew heavier, and the fingers gripping her waist tightened, his fingertips brushing over the small of her back.

Claire Kendall felt his body react.

The thin lounge pants he was wearing couldn’t hide anything.

She suddenly remembered Sharon Carter’s words.

’Legal roommates with benefits?’

The two of them communicated far more with their bodies than with their words.

This was the first time she felt a little resistant. She reached out and pushed against Miles Warren’s chest. "No, I don’t feel well today. My body aches."

Miles Warren froze, his hand, which had just picked up an ointment, suspended in mid-air.

He could sense Claire Kendall’s obvious displeasure.

He immediately let go of her, leaned back, and created some distance between them.

Claire Kendall took the opportunity to get away, standing barefoot on the floor, her toes curled slightly.

Miles Warren picked up her slippers from the bathroom doorway, bent down, and placed them by her feet.

He didn’t look up as he helped her put them on, his voice somewhat muffled.

"I took matters into my own hands and went to OCHH today. I made all those arrangements without telling you first."

"It’s normal for you to be unhappy."

Miles Warren stood up and placed the ointment he had just brought in on the nightstand.

"Then apply it yourself." He turned and left the bedroom.

Claire Kendall froze.

’So when he held me and started to lift my dress, he wasn’t trying to... he just wanted to help me apply the ointment?’

’I think I misunderstood him.’
