Tempting Him to Lose Control

Chapter 118: Is It His First Time?

Chapter 118: Chapter 118: Is It His First Time?

Claire Kendall was confused. "Dr. Keller, what’s wrong with Miles Warren?"

Jonathan Keller’s voice was grave. "Miles has a fear of water."

Julian Wilde exploded. "Didn’t you say you weren’t coming to my birthday party? If you’d told me you were coming, I wouldn’t have held it at this godforsaken place, The Lake Isle."

"Don’t you know how severe your fear is? You nearly passed out and went into shock last time! You scared me half to death!"

Miles Warren frowned and motioned for Julian to shut up. "I’m fine."

"It’ll be too late when something happens! Are you feeling unwell now? I’ll get a doctor to take a look at you."

Miles Warren shook his head coolly, but his face was still a little pale.

Claire Kendall bit her lip, her fingers balling into fists at her sides.

’No wonder he held onto me so tightly on the speedboat just now, and was even quieter than usual.’

’So his fear of water is that severe.’

Her voice was a little hoarse. "Miles Warren, I..."

"You wanted to come, so we’re here."

Miles Warren cut her off, nonchalantly changing the subject. The party continued.

At an outdoor booth, a few female guests were curiously sizing up Claire Kendall.

Some were entertainment industry celebrities, others were fashion models. They knew Julian Wilde, so they had met Miles Warren a few times.

But this was the first time they had ever seen a woman by Miles Warren’s side.

"Is Mr. Warren really married?"

"No way. There was no official announcement. It’s all just rumors."

"Their wedding rings match. It must be real."

...

The women murmured amongst themselves, their faces etched with disbelief.

Claire Kendall stood by the champagne tower, discussing the feasibility of OCHH’s revival plan with Julian Wilde.

She was wearing high heels, and her right ankle was starting to hurt. Without showing it, she shifted her weight to her left leg.

Miles Warren stood up from the sofa and walked straight over to her.

With all eyes on him, in full view of the other guests, he bent down. Then, he knelt on one knee, took hold of her right ankle, and slipped off her high heel.

He examined it carefully, his voice a little deep.

"It’s red. Why didn’t you say anything?"

With her foot in his hand, Claire’s face instantly flushed red.

"Don’t. I’m fine."

She instinctively tried to pull her foot back, but he held it even tighter.

Maintaining his position, Miles Warren had a waiter bring over a pair of soft-soled slippers and carefully helped her put them on.

First one, then the other.

His movements were practiced. It was obvious he had done this for her many times in private.

Swapping the high heels for flat, soft slippers felt much better.

Miles Warren led her to a sofa to sit down, then said to Julian Wilde, "Come over here. Let’s talk here."

Julian Wilde nodded, swirling the wine in his glass. He glanced around at the surrounding people, his voice neither loud nor soft.

"Did you all see that?"

He jutted his chin toward Claire Kendall.

"You can piss off anyone you want, but not her. She’s the apple of our Mr. Warren’s eye. So tonight, everyone watch your mouths."

The women who had been gossiping animatedly just moments before exchanged glances, and none of them uttered another word.

After chatting with Julian Wilde for a while longer, Claire Kendall got up and went to the restroom.

She had just turned off the faucet when she heard snide, passive-aggressive chatter from the makeup area outside.

"Is that Claire Kendall really that good-looking? I think she’s just average."

"Right? And she doesn’t come from any prominent family. Why would Mr. Warren marry her?"

"Didn’t you see the hickey on her collarbone? She’s probably just good in bed."

"She just got lucky. Anyone could please Mr. Warren. And I hear he’s... pretty big down there, HA HA HA."

...

The laughter was jarring. Their words grew more and more outrageous, more and more vulgar.

Claire Kendall pushed open the stall door and walked out.

The three women in front of the mirror saw Claire Kendall suddenly appear behind them. A flicker of awkwardness crossed their faces, but they quickly regained their composure.

’So what if we gossiped a little? A normal person would just swallow their anger and let it go.’

Claire Kendall walked to the mirror, casually smoothed a few stray hairs at her forehead, and began to speak, unhurried.

"My face might be average, but Miles Warren likes it."

"As for my skills in bed—were you ladies hiding under his bed to see for yourselves?"

She curved her lips into a smile laced with cold indifference.

"So interested in my husband. Are you that eager to be his mistress?"

The three women’s faces turned ashen. Their lips moved. "Y-You! Don’t be so nasty!"

She sneered. "Oh, so you do know what ’nasty’ sounds like."

She turned to leave in her slippers, but froze at the restroom entrance.

Miles Warren was standing right there. She had no idea how long he’d been there, or how much of the conversation he had overheard.

Claire Kendall felt her face flush. "When did you get here?"

Miles Warren lowered his head, whispering close to her ear, "That ’husband’ you just said... sounded very nice."

’Of course!’

She closed her eyes, mortified.

The three women also walked out, muttering complaints about how there was something wrong with Claire Kendall.

The next second, they were met with Miles Warren’s grim face.

The three of them panicked completely, their faces deathly pale.

"M-Mr. Warren, there’s been a misunderstanding."

"We’re sorry, we know we were wrong."

"Please give us another chance."

Miles Warren had no interest in their nonsense and immediately called Julian Wilde over.

For something like this to happen at his party was a huge embarrassment. Julian Wilde immediately had security come and escort the three women out. From now on, they were destined to find it impossible to get by in their circle.

Jonathan Keller, trying to lighten the mood, invited Claire Kendall to join them for a game of cards.

Miles Warren didn’t join in. He stood a short distance away, taking a call from the hospital.

At the card game.

Julian Wilde looked a bit embarrassed. "Ms. Kendall, I’m sorry about that. It was my bad for misjudging their character."

"Mr. Wilde, you’re too kind. It has nothing to do with you."

Jonathan Keller shuffled the cards and dealt, but no one’s mind was on the game.

Someone laughed and said, "Claire, this is the first time I’ve ever seen Miles care about someone so much."

"So Miles is actually this gentle in private. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me."

Hearing this, Claire Kendall’s movements slowed as she played her card. She looked up, her gaze casual but full of probing questions.

"Has he... never brought a girl out to hang out with you all before?"

"Of course not!" everyone said in unison.

Holding her cards, Claire Kendall’s gaze secretly fell on Miles Warren.

The man’s posture was ramrod straight as he stood on the lawn not far away, speaking on the phone. His tone was serious and solemn; he was probably discussing a patient.

’He never brought *the one he never got over* out with them.’

’Does that mean *the one he never got over* was someone he loved but couldn’t have? That they were never actually together?’

’And because they were never together, he can’t forget her, right?’

Julian Wilde’s low voice suddenly interrupted Claire Kendall’s chaotic thoughts.

"Claire, be honest. Is Miles a virgin?"

"..."

Claire Kendall didn’t know how to answer. She hadn’t thought about it. That night... he probably was?

’It’s just that for his first time, he seemed a little too skilled.’

"Claire, why aren’t you saying anything?"

"I bet Miles is so straight-laced he probably doesn’t even know how to kiss!"

Everyone burst out laughing.

Claire Kendall subconsciously bit her lip.

’Doesn’t know how to kiss? He’s an expert.’
