Chapter 135: Chapter 135: Husband, Come Home with Me
Miles Warren took a step back. His left knee buckled, and a sharp pain shot through it. He clenched his fists, the veins on his neck bulging.
Stella Locke noticed his strained posture as he struggled to stand.
"Miles, are you hurt? I’ll take you to the hospital."
"Don’t worry about it. I’ll go see Jonathan Keller."
"It’s too late. Dr. Keller would have to make a special trip. I’ll give you a ride." Stella Locke pulled open the car door.
Miles Warren didn’t refuse this time. Stella Locke helped him into the passenger seat.
The car drove away from Regency Gardens.
From the fifth floor, the distance was too great. Claire Kendall couldn’t hear what the two were saying, nor could she make out their expressions.
’He just said he was going to the hospital for surgery, and in the blink of an eye, he’s sauntering off with Stella Locke looking perfectly fine.’
Claire Kendall gripped the curtain tightly, then slowly relaxed her fingers.
Clementine jumped up next to her, wrapped its tail around her calf, and meowed twice.
She picked up the kitten and poked its round little forehead.
"Looks like from now on, it’ll really just be you and me."
Clementine didn’t understand, of course. It just rubbed its head against her chin, a "PURRRR" rumbling in its throat, and snuggled deeper into her arms.

At Riplake Bay Apartments, Stella Locke dropped him off downstairs, tactfully choosing not to go up.
Julian Wilde helped Miles Warren inside, and Jonathan Keller immediately brought over a first-aid kit.
The man sat on the sofa and rolled up his pant leg, revealing a swollen, purplish wound behind his left knee.
"This is a nasty one. Your old man really doesn’t hold back."
Jonathan Keller put on sterile gloves and began to treat the wound. He pressed it a few times. "Good, the bone’s not injured."
"But—how did it get strained like this? Did you carry something heavy after you were injured? You’re a doctor, for crying out loud! You should know better!"
Miles Warren said nothing.
But Jonathan Keller had already guessed most of it. ’What "heavy load" could he have been carrying? It had to be related to Claire Kendall.’
’When it came to that woman, he lost all his principles.’
Jonathan Keller couldn’t help but nag, "What are you even doing this for? You’re giving up the Warren Group, giving up your leg, all for her, and she doesn’t even know a thing."
"Is it so hard to just tell her? Don’t you have a mouth? Or is she heartless?"
Julian Wilde said sarcastically, "Heh. I think that woman *is* heartless!"
Miles Warren frowned, cutting them off. "It has nothing to do with her."
"I never planned on taking over the Warren Group anyway, and there’s no need to make her feel guilty."
Julian Wilde asked, "So, when are you going to start transferring your overseas assets back here?"
"No rush. First, tighten our grip on the Wallace Sutton connection. He has a conference in Aethel in a couple of days. Get me two invitations. Everything else can wait until OCHH is stable."
"Also, let the hospital know for me. I’m taking two days off."
Jonathan Keller nodded and sighed. ’He could cure physical ailments, but he really couldn’t save someone who was hopelessly in love.’
The next morning, Claire Kendall went into the bathroom to wash up and caught a glimpse of the laundry basket in the corner.
Inside was a pair of trousers, the very same ones Miles Warren had worn yesterday.
A patch of the fabric was a strikingly dark, eye-catching color.
Confused, Claire Kendall picked them up. Her heart lurched—it was a huge patch of dried blood! It stretched from the back of the knee all the way down to the lower calf.
’He was injured?’
In an instant, all the details she had ignored yesterday flooded her mind.
The slight tremor in his steps when he carried her on his back, his deliberately slow pace, the unnatural way he headed straight for the bathroom after they got home.
Her fingers, clutching the trousers, trembled uncontrollably, and her eyes instantly turned red.
’That idiot, Miles Warren! His leg was so badly hurt, why didn’t he say a single word!’
Claire Kendall immediately called him, but a cold voice came from the other end of the line.
"We’re sorry, the number you have dialed is currently switched off."
Claire Kendall was restless. She grabbed her coat, hurried to the hospital, and found the third-floor office completely empty.
She rushed to the inpatient department to find Jonathan Keller.
"Dr. Keller, do you know where Miles Warren is? Is his leg injured?"
Jonathan Keller’s tone was flat. "Do you need something? As for where he is, no comment."
"I..." Claire Kendall made up an excuse. "He said he was going on a business trip but left without packing. I wanted to bring him some clothes."
She put down the bag and turned to leave.
Jonathan Keller glanced down at the neatly folded clothes in the bag and pulled out his phone to send Miles Warren a message.
[Your wife showed up, asking where you are.]
Miles Warren’s phone had just finished charging. He turned it on and replied: [Don’t tell her for now. We can talk in a couple of days.]
Jonathan Keller left the hospital carrying the bag. He didn’t notice a slender figure following him from a short distance away.
Back at Riplake Bay, Jonathan Keller took out his keys to open the door, and in his peripheral vision, he glimpsed the person standing outside.
He froze, nearly dropping the bag in his hand.
"Claire Kendall?! What are you doing here?"
Claire Kendall didn’t answer.
Her gaze went past him, landing directly on the man in the living room.
Miles Warren was sitting on the sofa, his left leg propped up on a low stool. He must have just had his dressing changed; white gauze was wrapped around the back of his knee, layer upon layer, a shocking sight.
’He’s hurt so badly!’
Claire Kendall’s eyes instantly welled up and turned red.
Miles Warren saw her too. He rubbed the bridge of his nose, his voice laced with resignation. "Jonathan Keller, what did you bring her here for?"
The latter held up his hands innocently. "I didn’t bring her here! Your wife is a regular James Bond—she tailed me all by herself."
Miles Warren looked at the person at the door. Her eyes were red, she was biting her lip hard, and tears welled up, about to fall. She looked as pitiful as an abandoned kitten.
His heart melted completely.
He held out a hand to her, his tone a mixture of resignation and indulgence. "Come in."
Claire Kendall slipped on a pair of slippers and practically rushed into the living room, crouching down by his leg.
Her fingers hovered over the gauze, trembling, not daring to touch.
"Was it... from the Old Master yesterday?"
"It’s a minor injury. Don’t worry," he said lightly.
Jonathan Keller really couldn’t hold back. "Yeah, a ’minor injury.’ After all, compared to being kicked out of the—"
"Jonathan Keller," Miles Warren’s voice was quiet but held a warning tone. "I’m thirsty. Get me some water."
"Fine, I’ll shut up! I’ll get the water!" Jonathan Keller said through gritted teeth and turned to the kitchen.
Claire Kendall looked up at him, staring without blinking.
"Yesterday, I saw you get into Stella Locke’s car. She was bringing you here, wasn’t she?"
The man nodded.
"Miles Warren, you carried me all that way even though you were hurt. Are you an idiot?"
Claire Kendall was overwhelmed with distress. The heartache was completely uncontrollable, turning into a flood of tears.
Large teardrops fell one after another, splashing onto the back of Miles Warren’s hand, searing and hot.
This was the first time Miles Warren had seen her cry like this. His heart trembled, and he immediately raised a hand, frantically trying to wipe her tears away.
"What are you crying for? It’s not like I’m crippled. It’ll be fine after a couple of days’ rest."
Claire Kendall managed to stop her tears and stood up.
"Come back to Regency Gardens with me. The bedroom and bed are bigger there, and it’ll be more convenient for me to take care of you."
"I have Jonathan Keller looking after me here. It’s convenient enough."
"No!" Claire Kendall was serious and firm, a stubborn glint in her eyes. "You’re my husband. You’re hurt, so I have to be the one to take care of you! Come back with me!"
