Tempting Him to Lose Control

Chapter 64: What Would Happen If Miles Warren Found Out?

Chapter 64: Chapter 64: What Would Happen If Miles Warren Found Out?

Late at night, in Jacob Sinclair’s private apartment.

The air was thick with a sensuous, decadent aura.

Yvonne Warren lay in bed, wrapping her arms around Jacob Sinclair’s waist from behind. "Jacob, what are you looking at?"

The man stared at the message on his screen from Claire Kendall.

[Tomorrow at 11:00 AM. The restaurant downstairs from Sinclair Group. I want to talk to you in person.]

A smile slowly curled his lips.

’It took her four months to finally give in. My little canary has some backbone after all,’ he thought. ’But in the end, she still has to come crawling back obediently.’

Yvonne followed his gaze and saw the name on the screen. Her smile froze instantly.

Claire Kendall?!

She had worked so hard to seduce Jacob into sleeping with her, and they were on the verge of making things official.

And now, of all times, she had to pop up again.

She feigned ignorance. "Jacob, is it something for work?"

"No," Jacob said, locking his phone. His tone was dismissive, but he couldn’t hide his smug satisfaction. "It’s nothing important. Go to sleep."

Yvonne’s heart sank. Her red lips tightened, and flames of jealousy churned in her eyes.

Jacob gazed out the window, his mood instantly lifted by the message.

’Tomorrow, she’ll definitely come begging me, all meek and subservient.’

’And when she does, I won’t let her off the hook so easily.’

’After all, who else could possibly help her with her family’s mess? I’ll make her understand that leaving me was the stupidest decision she’s ever made in her life.’

-

The next day, at the restaurant downstairs from the Sinclair Group building.

Claire Kendall was dressed simply, her long hair casually tied up, and her face free of makeup.

Jacob Sinclair arrived quite a while later, pushing the door open as he entered.

The moment he saw Claire, he faltered for a second, a complex mix of emotions rising in his eyes.

She was even more beautiful than before, like a goddess stepping out of an oil painting.

Nostalgia, smugness, and an urge to cruelly toy with her.

Jacob quickly reined in his emotions, adopting a haughty, aloof air as he sat down across from her. He leaned back in his chair, his posture relaxed and unhurried.

He stared at Claire with leisurely contempt, his tone mocking. "What’s this? Finally come to your senses?"

Claire didn’t say a word. With a blank expression, she took a file out of her bag and pushed it to the center of the table.

Jacob raised an eyebrow. "What’s this? Don’t want to stay in Wexall Village anymore? Can’t take it? I suppose I could take pity on you..."

As he spoke, he picked up the manila envelope.

The two bold, crimson words made the smug remark he was about to say catch in his throat.

Claire’s voice was soft and detached. "It’s a termination agreement. Sign it. As of today, Moonstone will operate independently."

The smile on Jacob’s face froze, the curve of his lips slowly vanishing.

He forced himself to remain calm and sneered.

"Terminate the contract? Claire, do you have any idea what you’re saying? Do you think the penalty clause in the contract is just for show? Fifty million. Do you have that kind of money?"

Claire said nothing, calmly taking a check from her bag and placing it flat on the table.

The number on the check was, to the dollar, exactly fifty million.

Jacob’s gaze fell on the number, and his pupils constricted sharply.

He looked up, staring intently at Claire, his eyes filled with disbelief.

"Where did you get the money?!"

"That’s none of your business," Claire said, pulling back her hand. Her tone was nonchalant. "As of today, there are no ties between us whatsoever. That includes our professional relationship."

Jacob grew agitated and shot to his feet.

He rounded the table and grabbed Claire’s wrist.

"Claire, it was Ethan Lynch who gave you the money, wasn’t it? You’d rather be his fucking dog than bow your head to me? Are you insane?!"

Claire was impatient. "Let go."

The man didn’t let go. "Was it worth it, just to piss me off?"

SLAP!

With her free hand, Claire dealt Jacob a resounding backhand slap across the face.

A bright red handprint quickly appeared on the man’s face.

Claire seized the opportunity to break free from his grip and took a step back.

"Why would I need to piss off a piece of trash like you?"

Her tone was icy, every word sharp and deliberate.

"Stop bothering me."

Jacob stood stunned, his eyes wide with disbelief. He demanded, "Claire, wasn’t I good enough to you? On what grounds are you...?"

She cut him off. "Good to me? Was it ’good to me’ to block my mother’s kidney donor twice? To go behind my back and marry someone else?"

"If that’s the case, Jacob, then you’ve been *so* good to me."

The man’s pupils trembled. "When did you find out?"

Claire had no desire to engage with him further and turned to leave.

Jacob grew desperate, his ugly true colors showing.

"Claire! If you dare walk out of here, I’ll let your mother die in that hospital! If I don’t give the word, who would dare operate on her?"

She turned back coldly. "Sorry, but my mother’s surgery is already done."

Jacob went completely rigid. "Impossible! Who would dare operate on your mother?!"

He pulled out his phone and told his assistant to look into Shirley Kendall’s situation, specifically the attending physician.

A cold smile touched Claire’s lips. She knew Jacob all too well.

That’s why she had asked Miles Warren to hide all of Shirley Kendall’s information beforehand, especially the identity of her attending physician.

’At least for now, I can’t let Jacob suspect Miles.’

She turned and walked away without a backward glance.

Jacob watched her resolute back grow smaller in the distance, a sense of panic slowly spreading through his heart...

It seemed he had truly lost her.

The realization sent an uncontrollable chill through Jacob’s body.

He collapsed back into his chair, muttering to himself.

"This isn’t how it’s supposed to be. Claire, you’ll definitely regret this..."

But as the words left his lips, even he didn’t believe them.

Having left the restaurant and settled the major issue, Claire felt refreshed and invigorated.

Terminating the contract with Sinclair Group meant she could now independently find a location for Moonstone, hire employees, and expand her business.

The stifling frustration that had been weighing on her chest for so long finally dissipated.

She had just walked down the steps.

From a corner, a portly figure suddenly darted out, blocking her path.

It was Howard Kendall.

He wore a wrinkled jacket, his greasy hair was plastered to his scalp, and his eyes were sunken. He probably hadn’t slept in a long time due to the bankruptcy.

Claire’s brow furrowed. "Don’t come bothering me. I don’t have any money."

"No money?" Howard sneered. "I heard every word you said to Jacob Sinclair just now."

"You’d rather throw fifty million down the drain to break a contract than save your own father. Claire, you really are an ungrateful bitch!"

Claire found it laughable. "It’s my money. I’ll spend it however I want."

He suddenly moved closer and lowered his voice.

"Then why didn’t you dare tell Jacob Sinclair that your mother’s surgeon was his future uncle-in-law, Miles Warren?"

Claire’s heart sank.

Seeing the subtle change in her expression, Howard became even more certain of his guess.

"Does the crown prince of the Warren Family know? You seduced him to get revenge on his niece’s boyfriend—your ex, Jacob Sinclair. You don’t have a shred of genuine feeling for him; you’ve been using him from the very beginning."

"If he finds out, Claire, do you think your dream of marrying into a rich family can continue?"
