Tempting Him to Lose Control
Chapter 66: Dr. Linden’s Lower Body is All BloodChapter 66: Chapter 66: Dr. Linden’s Lower Body is All Blood
"Who gave you permission to touch my things?"
A voice laced with ice rang out from the doorway of the hospital room.
Miles Warren’s expression was grim.
He strode into the room and snatched the stack of reports away from her.
The smile on Rosalind Linden’s face froze. She hurried forward, her voice laced with an eager, fawning tone.
"Miles, listen to me. The truth is, I’m preg—"
"Get out," the man cut her off. "This is a hospital room, not a stage for your performance. Dr. Linden, have some self-respect."
Rosalind pressed her lips together, wanting to say more, but Miles stopped her with a raised hand.
"Fine. I’ll wait until you’ve finished your rounds. Miles, I really do have something important to tell you."
On the hospital bed,
Shirley Kendall coughed, a dry, harsh sound.
"Ma’am, please don’t listen to that woman’s nonsense."
"Claire is a good person. I will file a report with the hospital to have Dr. Linden disciplined for her misconduct. I apologize that my personal affairs have affected you both."
Shirley Kendall shook her head. "It’s no bother, no bother at all. It’s good that the misunderstanding is cleared up."
"Besides, I trust my Claire. She isn’t the kind of girl that woman made her out to be."
Hearing this, Claire Kendall’s face flushed, and she felt a pang of shame.
She wasn’t as malicious as Rosalind had painted her, but on the matter of seduction, she truly had no defense.
’Even though we never went all the way.’
’Thanks to my initiative, we did just about everything else, both things we should and shouldn’t have...’
Miles Warren lowered his gaze to the report and gave a brief analysis.
"The kidney isn’t showing any signs of rejection, and you’re recovering very well. Ma’am, you should be able to go home in another month."
"Oh, wonderful, wonderful! Claire, dear, once I’m discharged, we must properly thank Dr. Warren."
"I know, Mom."
The words had barely left her lips
when a shrill, familiar shout erupted outside the room.
"You bitch! It’s all your fault! All your fault!"
It was Howard Kendall.
At the sound of his voice, Shirley instinctively clutched the bedsheets.
"Why... why is he here?"
Claire gently patted the back of her hand, her voice soft but filled with an undeniable certainty.
"Mom, don’t worry. He’s not here for us."
Miles’s fingers, which had been flipping through the medical chart, paused. His gaze grew deep and dark.
"I’ll go take a look."
Claire stepped out of the room, and the man followed close behind.
In the corridor, Howard Kendall was holding a glass bottle filled with a clear liquid, repeatedly making a motion as if to splash it.
It was filled with sulfuric acid.
He had backed Rosalind into a corner, and she was trembling uncontrollably.
"What... what are you doing? Whatever it is, we can talk about it calmly."
Seeing her feigned composure, Howard Kendall burned with rage.
"You cheated me out of so much money and bankrupted my company, and you want me to ’talk about it calmly’?"
"Calm down! I’m a victim too! They cheated me out of my money as well..."
"Bullshit!" Howard cut her off. "Stop trying to fool me! I’ve already investigated. The legal representative for this project is a good friend of yours. You two conspired to transfer all the money away long ago!"
A crowd was gathering, the sound of their whispers growing louder.
Claire Kendall stood at the edge of the crowd, not moving forward, her expression indifferent.
Watching the two of them "tear each other apart," the corners of her lips curved up slightly, but her eyes were utterly glacial.
She took out her phone and dialed the police, her voice steady and cool.
"Hello, I’d like to report a crime."
"Someone is causing a disturbance with sulfuric acid at Aethel General Hospital, on the fourth floor by the patient rooms."
After hanging up, she realized Miles Warren was standing just behind and to her side.
The man’s low voice held a playful, unreadable tone.
"Claire Kendall, you certainly move fast."
Turning around, she immediately schooled her features into a perfectly calibrated expression of concern and worry.
"He’s too dangerous. I was afraid he’d actually do something to hurt someone..."
Miles met her seemingly pure and innocent gaze and didn’t press the matter.
A woman’s blood-curdling scream pierced through the crowd.
"AHH!"
Howard had grabbed a fistful of Rosalind’s hair, pulling her off balance and sending her crashing heavily to the floor.
Still not satisfied, Howard kicked her again.
"You fucking dare to dodge? I’m going to kill you today!"
Security guards finally rushed up from downstairs and scrambled to restrain Howard.
Rosalind lay on the floor, curled into a ball, her hands clutched tightly over her stomach.
On her pants, a patch of crimson was rapidly spreading.
A sharp pain shot through Rosalind’s lower abdomen, and her whole body trembled in agony.
’My baby...’
’I have to keep this baby!’
’It’s the only thing I have left to tie Miles down.’
A commotion rippled through the crowd.
"Dr. Linden is bleeding down there!"
"Is she pregnant? Oh my god, someone call an OB-GYN!"
"I never heard that Dr. Linden had a boyfriend. How could she be pregnant?"
The scene was chaos.
Howard Kendall laughed maniacally. "A venomous bitch like you deserves to die without an heir!"
The thought of what Claire had told him—that he’d been foolishly manipulated by Rosalind for so long—stoked an anger that was impossible to quell.
The elevator doors opened and police officers rushed out, immediately taking control of Howard.
He struggled wildly. "Let go of me! She cheated me out of my money! On what grounds are you arresting me?"
As two officers escorted him away, they passed by Claire.
Howard said impatiently, "Get me out of here as soon as you can!"
But an officer looked at her and asked, "Are you the one who called this in?"
Claire nodded, a slow, triumphant smile gracing her lips, a flicker of assured victory in her eyes.
"I am."
"Alright. We’ll need you to give a statement in a little while."
A chill ran down Howard Kendall’s spine.
He finally understood.
"Claire Kendall, you fucking dare to set me up!"
He went berserk and looked at Miles Warren standing nearby.
"You! Do you really think she’s some pure and innocent little flower? She used to be with—"
Howard was dragged away, his voice echoing down the corridor as the police shoved him into the elevator.
Claire watched the elevator doors slowly close, the anxiety in her chest finally settling. Her eyes held a knowing look.
’Before coming to the hospital, I had already anonymously sent evidence of Howard’s years of corporate crimes to Rosalind’s father, Richard Linden.’
’With his daughter injured, how could he possibly let Howard off easy?’
’Using his own strength against him, Howard won’t be getting out of there for the rest of his life.’
’And he’ll never be able to threaten me with what happened with Jacob Sinclair again.’
Miles stopped in front of her, his eyes lowered slightly. "Two birds with one stone. Are you satisfied now?"
She blinked, pretending not to understand.
She changed the subject. "I never expected Rosalind to actually be pregnant."
He was cold. "It has nothing to do with me."
"Of course, I know it has nothing to do with you, Dr. Warren."
Claire’s voice was both delicate and soft, yet colored with a hint of triumph.
"After all, that night—"
"Dr. Warren’s future children... were held right in my hands~"
