Tempting Him to Lose Control
Chapter 98: I Was Indeed Too Harsh Last NightChapter 98: Chapter 98: I Was Indeed Too Harsh Last Night
Claire Kendall tilted her face up, her eyes red-rimmed, tears welling up but refusing to fall.
She stood still, biting her lip and looking at him before stubbornly unbuttoning her shirt.
One button, then two, then three...
Once it was fully unbuttoned, her shirt slid to the floor.
She stood before him, wearing nothing but a thin camisole. Her legs were long and straight, and her exposed skin felt cool in the air.
"Claire, that’s enough," Miles said, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he spoke.
But she didn’t stop.
She grabbed his hand and placed it on her waist, forcing him to hold her.
The touch of her delicate, warm skin made him want to pull away, but she held his hand fast.
His voice grew even hoarser. He had the urge to dig his fingers into her flesh.
’Make her cry. Make her hurt.’
Her gaze swept downwards.
"Miles, you’re lying. You’re obviously..."
His undeniable physical reaction was a stark reminder of how pathetic he was, how easily she could control him.
"It would be the same with anyone else."
Miles’s eyes were dark, and he enunciated each word with harsh precision.
"Haven’t you ever taken a biology class? Claire, what is there to be so proud of?"
His words made her freeze.
A wave of humiliation washed over her.
’I’ve already gone this far, and he still doesn’t believe me. He’s completely unmoved.’
’Would he really react this way to just any woman?’
’I feel so cheap.’
Claire bent down, picked up her shirt from the floor, and slowly put it back on.
Her movements were deliberate. Once dressed, she lowered her head, ready to leave.
"Good night."
She turned to leave, but the instant the words were out, a hand seized her wrist in a powerful grip.
Her world spun. The next second, she found herself thrown onto the bed.
Miles loomed over her, bracing himself with his arms on either side of her. They were so close she could feel his ragged breath. Sweat beaded on his forehead.
Claire’s hands instinctively clenched the bedsheets.
"You want to sleep with me?"
He threw the shameless question at her without flinching.
Claire looked away, turning her head to the side, and gave a slight nod.
Instantly, she felt his entire body go rigid.
He grabbed her chin, forcing her to meet his gaze. A mocking sneer played on his lips.
"Claire, I’m not that easy."
A chill shot through her heart, and the light in her eyes dimmed.
Miles’s fingertips traced a line from her chin, sliding down to tap lightly over her heart.
"Fine, we can do this. But tomorrow, we’re going to the Civil Affairs Bureau."
Claire froze, her lips parting slightly, her eyes wide with confusion.
"To get married," he said, his voice cold.
’She’s always like this. She teases and provokes me without a second thought, then drops me without the slightest hesitation.’
’If we get married...’
’...maybe she won’t be able to run away?’
Claire’s voice trembled. "M-married?"
"You don’t want to?" Miles pushed himself off her and stood up. "The door’s over there."
"No."
The denial was instantaneous. Claire scrambled to wrap her arms around his neck. "I’m willing."
Miles lowered his head and kissed her.
Claire was frightened, but she didn’t pull away.
His voice was rough.
"Claire, you asked for this. Both now and in the future, no matter how much it hurts, you will have to bear it."
Claire closed her eyes without a word.
’Let it hurt, then. At least it’s better than living with all this guilt.’
...
The night was a blur of passion that Claire could barely remember.
All she knew was that she was exhausted. Miles had been like a man possessed, and her whole body ached as if it had been taken apart piece by piece.
When she woke up the next day, Miles was standing by the bed.
"You’re awake?"
"Yeah, I’m awake..." She spoke, only to discover her voice was impossibly hoarse.
’Last night...’ She picked up her phone. It was already ten in the morning. She replied to a few urgent messages, especially one from Shirley Kendall, to put her mother’s mind at ease.
Miles handed her a set of new clothes. "Get up. Put these on."
Claire didn’t want to move. She ached all over.
Seeing she wasn’t moving, Miles’s tone grew sharp. He sneered, "Claire, don’t tell me you’re trying to back out already."
Annoyed, Claire sat up. The blanket slipped from her shoulders, revealing skin covered in purple bruises—all marks he had left.
"Miles, what are you, a dog?"
His eyes darkened. "Are you trying to start something?"
Her voice was soft, laced with a demanding coyness. "I’m not. You come help me change."
He hesitated for a moment before walking over. Piece by piece, he helped her into the new clothes he’d brought.
His movements were gentle, but as he stared at the marks on her skin, his expression grew darker.
’He had definitely been too rough last night.’
Claire got out of bed, and after freshening up in the bathroom, she came out and said, "I’m going to head home first."
Seeing the suspicious look on Miles’s face, she quickly explained.
"Aren’t we going to the Civil Affairs Bureau? I don’t have my ID or my household registration book."
"Besides, I don’t know how I’m going to tell my mom. She has the registration book, so I’ll have to sneak it out."
Miles let out a laugh of pure exasperation and leaned against the doorframe.
"Claire, what am I? Some dirty little secret that can’t be seen in public?"
